MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Theoretically, Solosis' superior Special Attack stat should be able to out-do her opponent's Absorb, but because its typing was changed, the attack was more powerful than he had expected. He heard the faint mutters of his own Pokemon; a final message before she was to black out. She had reached her limit--with both her energy being drained and her blasting the Psywave, it seemed that her opponent would be able to hold out longer than she did. She apologised, but Arthur shook his head. You did well. We have simply been bested. he replied, and it was in that moment the beam died down and the spherical Pokemon sunk to the floor, no longer able to continue. He let out a sigh. Ah, it had been a while since he had lost. He had forgotten its sting, but it certainly wasn't as terrible as the very first time it happened. What happened to the Larvesta? Was the little bug still standing, or would it be declared a draw? He supposed he had very few options from here on out: hand over the badge or let him fight again another day, but he figured that this boy was ready to tackle the other gyms. They would not know what they had coming at them.

HOLY SH- The fallout of the two attacks was nowhere nearly as chaotic as the clash between the ember-b-eam and the Psywave before had nearly thrown him off his feet, but this one came and went without so much as stirring the arena. And the results were... mildly promising? The Solosis had fallen unconscious, and Larvesta was still- Oh there she went. "Aw shit." Muttered the boy under his breath as his pokemon face planted on the arena solidly. "Larvesta!" Shouted the boy, breaking for her immediately after and dropping to his knees halfway, sliding to a stop besides the fire bug and grasping at her. He propped her head onto his lap, fanning her gently. It was only after a few seconds of tending to her that realization hit him. What now? What did a draw even mean for him? In his own gym, it was all up to him if the challenger received a badge or not after drawing/losing to him, but those were local rules established by her mother, who was more teacher than trainer. "... Well crud. What now?" Larvesta Type Bug/Fire Level 15, Gender female, Ability Flame Body, MoveSet
- Ember
- String Shot
- Morning Sun
- Absorb

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Arthur was silent as he walked towards his fallen Pokemon, squatting down and picking her up from the ground. "...you did well." he muttered. It was probably time to reevaluate movesets and strategies after she got a good rest. He then turned his attention towards his opponent, who seemed confused about the whole situation because his Pokemon fainted as well. Ah, so it was a draw after all. He approached Doug while still carrying Solosis in his arms. "Let's heal our Pokemon first." he told him as he gestured the boy to follow him back to the main room. He was pretty set on the idea that he was going to award him the badge, but might as well mess with him a little and take care of their partners first. Once they got back to the room, he set his Pokemon down on one of the plush pillows that were set aside for them before heading towards the little fridge that contained the healing items. He handed a few Full Restores to Doug. "Here. Your Pokemon fought well." he said before going back to his Solosis and spraying the strong potion on her. She visibly relaxed after that, but didn't leave the cushion since it felt nice. Arthur then walked towards a nice drawer, opened it, and took out a shiny new badge along with the TM Psychic. He had a couple of these for winners, which reminded him that he should restock soon. He wordlessly then returned to Doug, extending his hand towards him with the badge on his open palm. "And here, you deserve this."

HOLY SH- The boy withered a little, though he relented from protesting for the moment. Glancing down at his Larvesta, he just had to agree. He could worry about badges and prizes in a minute; Best to make sure she was okay first. "Come on babe, let's get you patched up." He mumbled as he wrapped one arm around her mid section and the other underneath her, picking her up gingerly in his arms before standing up and falling in line behind Arthur. The way back was full of silence, though he hadn't been expecting anything else; the Psychic Leader hadn't stricken him as the kind to waste time or make unnecessary small talk. The room was just as they had left it before, with the leader seeking out the potions and handing him some for his pokemon. Full Restores were neat to have in such large quantities; pity they were far too expensive for the perpetually poor boy. He quickly sprayed all of his pokemon with the powerful potion. Dewpider clearly appreciated it the most, though Larvesta and Ledyba certainly didn't protest to it. He patted their head gently, reaching down to hug the Larvesta for her efforts before standing up fully to face the leader as he walked towards him. And extended out a badge. "Holy-" There was considerably less ceremony or fanfare to the whole thing than the boy had originally been expecting, but then, he hadn't even been sure if he would be getting anything at all. The unceremonious, though praised, way in which the badge was given to him did little to take away from the excitement. Grasping the badge gently the boy seemed to tremble in place before his feet began kicking and trampling as he turned in place, throwing both of his arms around all of his pokemon and lifting them all off the floor as if they were made paper, whooping victoriously as he held up the badge in the air. Ledyba joined his trainer in his loud cheering, pumping a fist in the air victoriously at a successful mission, while Dewpider groaned in fake annoyance at the hug, before slowly settling her head against her trainer's bicep, relaxing. Larvesta buried her head on her trainer's chest, her body warm with the afterglow of victory, Doug's ecstatic mood passing onto her. "We did it, guys." He muttered, hugging them once more before turning around to face the leader once again, bowing slightly at him. A leader was sort of a teacher, and in this case, also a colleague, even if the man didn't know. Due respect was owed, the voice of his mother in the back of his mind reminded him. "Thank you for the battle, Mr. Arthur!" He said, his tone earnest. He was far too ecstatic to put on his usual airs of over confidence and bravado.

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Arthur couldn't help but show a small smile at Doug's reaction to the badge. This was a win well deserved; they both fought hard, he'd like to think. He did a small nod when he was thanked by the boy. "You are most welcome. I look forward to seeing your progress, and perhaps battle you again in the future." he wasn't sure when, but the next time they'd see each other, he was probably going to use his personal team. Hm, that would be quite a challenge indeed. This person's Pokemon were already well-trained and they had strategies down pat. He needed to step up his game. "Oh yes, before I forget..." he also handed him the technical machine. "This is the TM Psychic. I'm sure that your Pokemon can use this powerful move to their advantage."Woobat just went back to munching on the biscuits that were left for her originally as her trainer let out his other Pokemon. Munna look absolutely beat, splooting on the couch as he let out a pained whine. Gothita, on the other hand, looked fine. A bit battered, but since she was the first one that went out, she had quite a lot of rest in her Poke Ball. If Doug were observant, he might recall that Gothita had fainted pretty dramatically, so it was a bit odd to see her moving around with ease. Anyway, Arthur healed his Munna with a good Full Restore. For Gothita, he surmised that a few Sitrus berries would be enough, as there was a bowl of them left on the glass coffee table. Usually that container appeared after a gym battle, served by a maid. They were always slightly chilled, so they were quite refreshing. He decided to give a good pat on the head for his Pokemon before turning his attention back to Doug. "You can get your Poke Dollar reward at the lobby counter, so don't forget about it before you leave." he added. "Just follow this hallway to go back; it should be just a straight line."

HOLY SH- The boy had forgotten the fact that there were other prizes for winning a gym match entirely. His happiness made him giddy as he grasped the very expensive TM Psychic. He had been looking at it at the shops for some time now, considering his options and knowing that Larvesta would have use for it in the far future. Now, he had it. Perfect.
Oh right, cash money too. Perfect ^2.
The boy grinned up at the man, "We'll battle again." He assured him, reaching into his pocket for the same business card he had given to Lucas, handing it to Arthur. "Maybe we'll find each other on the road; but if not, give me a call! Or I'll give you one myself!" He said cheerily. Nodding at the man on last time, the boy said his farewell before leaving the leader's personal chamber with his exhausted, but now healthy, pokemon all hanging from his body. Larvesta in his arms, Dewpider on his right shoulder, and Ledyba on his left. Walking through the long hall leading to where he had fought Lucas before, the boy released a long, relieved sigh from his lips, his shoulders dropping slightly as a smile tugged at his lips. He paused at the chamber were he fought Lucas, glancing around curiously to see if the man was still there. If not, he could just continue on to the lobby for his cash...

THERE ARE NO STRINGS ON ME Arthur probably had a similar reaction to the business card as Lucas did. The gym leader looked at it rather incredulously, surprised on why this boy needed one, unless he really wanted to stay in contact with all of his challengers or something. Anyway, he supposed he could put it along with all of the other business cards that he had in another box. He barely touched the thing, but perhaps he had reason to now. Might as well register the number on his phone before he forgot, just in case. It turned out that Lucas was not in his battle room (since they weren't expecting any more challengers for today), but in the lobby idly playing with his own smartphone. He had yet to return Smoochum but did heal her, so she was just resting on his shoulder, watching him play. When he heard the door open from the hallway, Lucas glanced up and saw that Doug had come back to the lobby, looking rather triumphant. Ah, it looked like he did manage to win after all. Their battle must've been one heck of a showdown. He wondered how much it would cost to repair the field this time. Since he was sitting in one of the plush chairs, he did not bother getting up and just raised his hand in the air. "Yo, champ to be! I take it you kicked his ass? Forget I said that though, he might dock my pay." he said it all in jest. "So what's your next stop after this? There are still a bunch more gyms in Stellara, with one supposedly harder than the last."

HOLY SH- Doug walked through the empty chamber, finding no reason to stop. Upon reaching the lobby however, waving cheerily at the secretary as he walked in, he spotted the gate guardian; Lucas. He brightened as the man noticed him, approaching him with his pokemon still hanging from him. Ledyba waved at the Smoochum good naturedly, the emotions of the battle long since forgotten to him. Doug's grin stretched wider at the man's greeting, finding his choice of words apt. Champ to be? He liked it! In response, he held up the badge with excitement. "He told me to tell you that you are fired for letting a brat in." Said the boy with a grin, plopping down on the seat besides the man. Dewpider proceeded to roll down and relax by the boy, while Ledyba floated down to sit on the boy's thigh. Larvesta relaxed against him some more, humming contentedly. "Thanks for the vote of confidence before, actually." He said to the man, still remembering that he had said he trusted him to get through it. "It's nice to hear it from someone other than myself." "I dunno where to go from here. Gotta scout the rest of the gyms. Gather some intel and all that." He said, winking. "But no worries; I'll prove you right." He said, grasping at Larvesta's sides and lifting her up in the air, grinning at her. "We'll be the champs!"

THERE ARE NO STRINGS ON ME Ah, the shiny new badge! It had been a while since Lucas had seen it. He half wondered if he was going to get one himself, but at the moment he didn't have any plans to challenge gyms. He would take life as it came to him, and right now, that meant earning enough money to pay the rent. Smoochum let out a happy cry, responding to Ledyba's wave with her own. Lucas decided that it would be good to pause his game for now, so he closed the app and put his phone back in his pocket. His expression quickly changed at Doug's joking, though. "W-whaa--he wouldn't." he then squinted his eyes, "You're joking, right?" but with that smile, he supposed he was, so the man relaxed again. Lucas had seen Arthur irritated before, and it was already rather terrifying. What more if he was angry--angry enough to fire him? He'd rather not think about it. To distract himself, the young man decided to take notice of Doug's other Pokemon. Ledyba he was familiar with since he had battled with that feisty bug, but the other two? He recognised Larvesta, though that was quite a rare Pokemon. The spider he was unfamiliar with, so maybe it came from the regions further away from where he was from. "No problem. I mean, I had my doubts. Might've even bet against you if I was asked about it." his tone was assuringly in jest, "But you made it! And if you can beat Arthur, pretty sure you can beat the others." he held the man in high regard, even if he seemed like a person that just isolated himself. Lucas had known him for a quite a while and even if they didn't engage in small talk very much, he didn't mind sticking around here. "And well, the closest Gym in this side of Stellara would be Pavo Town, though I heard the Gym there is kind of run down. How about tackling Vega's Gym? I heard that they specialise in dark types, which your bugs can capitalise on.""Anyway, I shouldn't keep you here for very long. I too need to get back to work." he made a face, "Besides being in Arthur's beck and call, I also have to report the damage...ugh." Lucas pushed himself off the plush couch, already missing how relaxing it was. "I'll be seeing you around then, kid."

EXIT THREAD Doug simply smiled enigmatically for the young man, before winking. "Course I'm kidding, Mr. Arthur didn't seem like the kind to do that anyways." Maybe the fact that he had given him a badge in spite of the draw had made him develop a bias in favor of the gym leader, but whatever, he liked the man. He pouted at Lucas' later jesting, jabbing weakly and playfully at the man's ribs with his elbow, a grin inevitably tugging at his lips as he did. Ledyba content with Smoochum returning the greeting, laid on his trainer's head lazily, sighing in relief as his wings tugged back under his chitin carapace. The boy scratched at his chin, humming in thought. Vega City Gym? Well, the dark type type advantage certainly would help him out, though with Stellara's rules on ascending difficulty, he wasn't sure if he should save the gyms weak to his bugs as the first targets, or as the last ones. "Hmm, I'll think about it! There's an event coming up in Vega City that I wanted to attend to. Maybe I'll scout the gym while there!" He said, nodding to himself before grinning at Lucas. "Thanks Lucas!" He said. Only a few minutes of conversation and Lucas already had to leave. The sad reality for most adults: Work. Doug smiled sheepishly at the man, scratching at the back of his head nervously and bringing his index fingers together. "Ah... haha... Yeah, sorry in advance." He said, remembering the damage his terrain focused tactics had brought to Arthur's battle chamber. Hopefully it was nothing too expensive to fix. "See you later, Lucas!" He said, waving the man as he stood up and went off to work, before jumping off the seat himself, walking up to the young lady behind the counter to collect his prize money before walking out of the building. Breathing in the coastal air of Eridani City, Doug smiled, reaching for his coat and tugging it open to look at the badge once again. His smile widened, and with his pokemon all hanging from him, they boy began to merrily make his way to a hotel. Forget pokemon center and all the cheap stuff. Just for tonight, he would sleep like a King.
