Well, this place was certainly lively. Maris found herself looking about the colorful display of food stands, games and general festivities all around, wandering around the festival in her usual manner. With Lio in her arms and alongside her partner Fran as always, they walked down the aisles upon aisles of carnival stands, the Rotom eyeing any and all rides and games they passed as Maris bit into her caramel apple. So this was Vega City--well, she certainly hasn’t been to a place like THIS! Bright lights, neon signs, constant chatter and citygoers running out and about in awe--is this what they called a tourist trap? She gulped down a bite of the treat. “Guess I’m trapped.” ( “Eh? Did you say zzzomething?” )“Nah.” Meanwhile, the Helioptile leered at any and all passersby, clinging onto Maris’s arm with slight reluctancy. Her five-foot barrier of personal space wasn’t exactly an option in a bustling place like the Gala, but the girl wanted Lio to be out and about, so she had no choice but to be rendered a helpless little lizard in Maris’s arms and breathe in the fresh air. The fresh, overtly food-heavy air. ( “More like I’M the one who’s trapped,” ) she grumbled to herself. Maris looked down at the Helioptile. “Well, it’s better than, say, getting stepped on, ain’t it?” she shrugged ( “Oh, PLEASE! I might as WELL be in the position I’M in! Why me, of ALL the Pokemon you have trapped under your hand--” )Lio suddenly found herself cut off by a sweet object bumping against her lips as Maris shushed her. Instantly, the Helioptile spat and wildly pawed at her mouth. Fran tried her best to ignore the bickering two, but still couldn’t help but snicker as they continued their search. “You’re being so loooud,” Maris grinned, taking a hearty bite out of her apple. “Calm down, won’tch you?” ( “PTAH! BLEGH! HOW DARE YOU POISON ME!” ) she yelled, trying her best to wipe off the sweet residue before licking her lips once. Then twice. Her eyes then fixed their attention at the caramel apple. ( “...what’s that.” )She swung the treat around idly. “Hm? This?” ( “Yes, that.” )“You’ve seen apples before haven’t y--” ( “D’oh, shut it!! What’s that...orange-y stuff on it?” ) For once, Maris noted Lio’s tone to soften a bit--still sounded bitter nonetheless, but it WAS quite a difference from her usually acrid tone and explosive attitude. “It’s called caramel. If I remember correctly, it’s...uh, basically just sugar that’s heated up ‘til it becomes this sort of sticky, smooth...stuff.” Another bite, to compensate her lack of description for the treat. “Do you like it?” Lio seemed to refuse to speak up, occasionally licking their lips once or twice as she subtly eyed the bright sign of the apple stand they had long past. Shrugging from the lack of response, Maris simply swallowed her bite and continued walking. It wasn’t long during their stroll before Fran spoke up. ( “Gahh, I can’t find anything interezzting…” )“Oh?” She perked up. “What exactly ARE you looking for?” They paused, shyly looking to the side before speaking up. ( “It’zz... been a while since I took over something. Something beSIDEZZ this fan of yourzz--” ) They gestured to their own body. ( “It’zz nice and all, but I can’t help but wonder what elszze I could enter…y-yup. That's all.” )Maris fell silent, slowing down as she strayed to the sidelines before coming to a complete stop. In that moment, she allowed themselves some time to breathe--and some time for her to think. The commotion of the gala filled in the silence between the three of them, children hollering as they played amongst themselves and noisy alarms and bells ringing off someone’s victory in a Ponyta derby game. Lio still looked back in the direction of those caramelized treats as Fran subtly moved about in place, eyeing the area around themselves. Stammering a moment, they quickly tried to break the silence. ( "And, er, I kinda wanna get you zzsomething, so--" )And in that moment, the trainer suddenly reached out and clung onto the sleeve of a random passersby. “ Hey.” Wait, shit, that was too serious sounding. She cleared her throat in an attempt to soften her tone. “Um. Do you...know any good games? Like. Carnival games. Crane games. Or something?” Eloquent as always.

Now that he’d managed to get out of the stuffier part of the Gala, he was a little more than surprised to see that there were actual, legitimate attractions—like the kind one would find in a legit carnival—scattered around some of the other areas where the Gala was being hosted.
While it did remind him of those fairs that came by Mossdeep once in a blue moon—at least, the one he remembered attending with the two idiots—it was still, quite honestly, a little overwhelming. Especially with his aura sight on the flux.
So much color, so many neon lights. Good grief, I’m surprised people haven’t gotten headaches yet… he thought to himself as he wound his way through the crowd, coming to a stop in front of a food stand. He was about to reach for he wallet in his jacket when he felt something—no, more like someone—pull on the sleeve of his jacket.
And then, a question was posed.
Hmm, do I…? Well, maybe… he thought to himself before looking around. Thank Arceus he had a height advantage and could easily see over most of the crowd’s heads.
“What exactly are you looking for? Well, there’re several attractions around here, but I haven’t spotted any crane games yet, miss,” he answered, squinting into the distance and wondering if he could find something that could interest his companion.

Racer Mei-Long held the apple under the Ponyta's mouth, the Pokemon munching onto the fruit as they made their way through the avenue, people giving the horse and her 'trainer' wide berth as she passed by. A Meditite sat at the Horse's back, looking around the place with curiosity. There was a somber feel to the pokemon's step, the less than pleasant taste of defeat still fresh. The Derby had yielded a victor, but it had not been her. Mei-Long had learned quite a lot from her new companion from the race, and confirmed a few things she had suspected. Amongst them, the fact that the horse was nowhere near full health just yet. As was to be expected. The Ponyta was still on the way to recovery from her stint with food deprivation, which took away the stamina she needed to carry her heavy weight for long, let alone while running at full throttle. She had started the race strong and had quickly lost steam, managing to carry herself to fourth place through sheer stubbornness. Sadly the stubborn fire type didn't seem to think her current situation was any excuse for her poor performance, and was in a depressive, foul mood. Mei-Long could only be thankful her current mood didn't kill her appetite; that would have made her road to recovery all the harder. No, all the exercise had simply made her hungrier. And naturally, put her in an even fouler mood. "A chance will come again." The woman assured the horse softly, her hand gently petting the Ponyta's withers. She didn't need to throw any more platitudes to the competitive fire type. As Mei tried to guide them around a pair of trainers standing in front of them, the Ponyta suddenly reached with her head and bit onto a girl's caramelized apple, chomping solidly onto the sugary treat. Mei-Long nearly had a stroke. Meditite's eyes popped wide open. " Ponyta!" She said sharply, her brows swiftly knotting together into a stern scowl, her voice rising. The horse just neighed in response, not looking particularly cocerned. The woman's lip curled, not at all happy with the flippant response. Meditite didn't appreciate it either, immediately ranting at the horse pokemon. She was ignored promptly. She would get back to that later. For now, she instead reached for a small purse at her waist, beginning to yank dollars out of it. "My sincerest apologies. She's usually-" ... Well, she was usually uncaring most of the time. "- Not as hungry?" She said, looking a bit uncertain. "My apologies, regardless." She said, bowing politely to the small girl, before holding out some cash as reparation. She huffed and deflated as the tall stranger gave his...unsatisfying answer. Honestly, she was hoping she could get a straightforward answer, for her and Fran’s sake, but it seems like she’ll have to talk more. Boo. “Mmm. Right. Umm...” she turned to her Rotom. “Fran?” ( “Bzzz--me?! Erm...a-ahem!” ) Clearly caught off guard, they spoke up. ( “Right then. Something...erm, zzsomething...mechanical?” ) They sheepishly grinned, hoping in vain that the other wouldn’t catch onto their plan. The both of them were fairly certain that people wouldn’t take their plan too kindly--after all, in technicality? It was cheating. It was just straight up cheating. ...but FUN cheating. ( “C-cuz y’see, heheh--” )“Traditional ones are boring as shit.” Fran’s fan whirred in an instant, eyes widening at Maris’s blunt statement. With the timing of it, it seemed like the girl wanted to go along with Fran’s plan and cover for them--appreciative, but at what cost. They knew Maris wasn’t a socialite by any means, but this was a bit much…!?“Stuff like bean bag throwing and bottle ring tosses are just suuuper boring--I’m into stuff like arcade machines ‘n crane games and stuff like that.” ( “A-anything with machines, really! Anything.” )“Yup. Anything like that’s fine. Er, please.” She reached over to nonchalantly take a bite of her apple before realizing she’d bit into air, seeing the remainder of the treat be chewed up by a really big Ponyta. Expectedly, she felt little claws dig into her hand as she looked down to Lio backing into her hoodie, ear frills opened defensively and glaring daggers into the Ponyta. Fran found themselves chuckling both at Lio’s fright and as the other woman hurriedly handed the young trainer cash as an apology. Soon enough, Maris is laughing too. It was honestly too silly to be angry at. (She wondered if Fen would feel the same...nah, he’d be all over it.) “I guess Pokemon have an irresistible sweet tooth,” she started, trying to ease the mood a little more. “Um. Anyway. Thank you.” As Maris reached her arm out, Lio found her chance. She wriggled out of the trainer’s arms and snatched onto the cash, holding it in her mouth before scuttling on all fours in the direction of the apple stand. “Oh, Lio--” ( “LIO!?” )Fran was the first to chase after the lizard, who seemed to be desperately barreling between the legs and ankles of passersby as the Rotom whizzed by in an attempt to catch up to her. ( “YOU COME BACK AND GIVE HER MONEY BACK RIGHT NOW--!!” ) Their frantic yelling continued until they slowly dissipated out of earshot. Aaaaaand they were gone. Which left Maris alone in the between the two trainers, her lizard having essentially robbed Mei-Long in front of the poor man she stopped from getting something to eat. ...Well, was it really stealing if it was money given for what Lio wanted all along? Yes, yes it was, she corrected herself. Ah yes, this Gala really proved itself to be quite lively now, didn’t it? “Uh.” Maris leaned to the left, staring in the direction of the apple stand. Based on the varying expressions of surprise and startlement among the crowd, it was somewhat easy to spot where the two were going. “...They’ll be back. Soon. Lio was eyeing my apple too, so, um. Chances are she’ll just stop by there. Sorry, though.” She would have left it at that and meandered to the imminent commotion at the caramel apple stand, but instead her eyes wandered until she fixed her attention on the Ponyta and the Meditite mounted on top of it. Oh dear Arceus, she was a big one. The pony had more than several inches on her, and compared to the average, godDAMN she was big. Lio's immediate intimidation from the Ponyta was understandable. If she recalled correctly, their species were usually merely half the size of this beast. Maris certainly wouldn’t want to have to deal with this one when she was in a foul mood. Well no, maybe not so. She was grumpy now (maybe from the Derby? Later, she'll ask later), and here Maris was, nonchalantly reaching an arm out to pet the Ponyta before stopping halfway. Right, it wasn’t hers. Permission is a thing that exists. “Oh, sorry. Again. Your Ponyta is… really a big one.” She wasn’t one for words. “Hell, in her case, I don’t blame her snacking, eheh. I nearly forgot to ask if I can stroke her. So, uh, can I?” Damian Moreau Mei-Long behold: shenanigans

Damian furrowed his brown in concern; was his reply that curt? Well, he only meant to inquire more, because he was no mind-reader, definitely not.
As to her first answer of traditional booths being boring, well, he wouldn’t say that she was right—there were some booths that an interesting spin on them; namely the booths that involved shooting at targets from a certain distance; or at least trying to fish something out of a rotating conveyor belt that had water in it.
But apparently, it seemed that they were looking for crane games. Now, had he noticed any of those weird machines around here? He was about to shake his head—when he saw that his companion had eventually ended up biting at literally thin air—and then saw that there was a rather large Ponyta who was the culprit; accompanied by a formidable-looking woman.
And it was clear that this woman didn’t cut any punches, giving the Fire Horse a telling-off before offering money as an apology—only to watch as the money had been taken by one of the younger girl’s other Pokémon.
“I’ll keep an eye out for your naughty companion, just in case they do come back,” he muttered, squinting over the crowd and hoping that the rowdy money-snatcher made it back to their little group in one piece. Maybe it was lucky he hadn’t bought any of those caramel apples yet; otherwise he’d be short something to eat as well…
Instead of commenting on the rather obvious, he then shifted his gaze onto the Ponyta, who was indeed much larger than what a normal Fire Horse would be like. He could briefly sense that there was something like annoyance emanating from the Fire-type—what had gone down? Although it wasn’t his business to pry.
“She might need more than one apple… that much I can say,” he said quietly, looking around in search of a stall where he could grab an apple and feed it to the Fire Horse as well. Maybe more food would help the annoyed demeanor calm down somewhat.

Irritation Well. At least it was one of the girl's pokemon that took the cash, right? Ponyta didn't often mind attention when she was on the racetrack, but truly didn't care for it when out of the hippodrome. More importantly though, she did not like the 'your' in that sentence. She snorted out puffs of air sharply when the girl began reaching for her, bringing her right hoof down twice sharply as a warning. She received yet another sharp look from Mei-Long for her troubles, and she found herself neighing in irritation. What, was she supposed to let strangers touch her now or something? "There are polite ways to say no." Mei-Long supplied shortly after, the Ponyta exhaling out of her nostrils in irritation as response. "I must concede; not a good first try." Said the woman in response, before turning to the girl. "Right now she's feeling very... sensitive-" An unhappy snort behind her followed her words immediately, making the woman huff. "-Well you are. That aside, the gentleman besides you is not wrong." Said the woman as she reached inside a bag of hers, producing a bag full of shiny apples. Ponyta perked up noticeably at the sight; the sweet apple had been nice and all, but after tasting it Ponyta could say for sure that she preferred the normal thing. Mei-Long held it to the girl and the young man. "I think she'll be a bit more receptive if you've one of these on hand." Said the woman, smiling. "That said, she does not like to be touched on the muzzle or the forehead." Or anything close to her face really. "I would recommend trying her withers and crest instead." "Please, do be careful while petting her. If she grows irritated, she'll become hot to the touch, to say the least." Ponyta wasn't too happy to have suddenly become the main attraction of a petting zoo, but she couldn't help but eye the apples in the bag hungrily. Curse her hungry nature! Maris nodded to the taller man in thanks. From the direction the Helioptile looked, her means and motive seemed obvious. With Fran at her tail, the two shouldn’t run into too much trouble--well, perhaps the festival goers will, but, y'know. Whatever. She certainly had snatched the money of all things for a reason. “Hope Lio will let me share,” she joked under her breath. She sort of expected the pony’s reaction, chuckling a little as she took a step back. That made sense--she was ready to leave the Ponyta alone if not for the woman bringing out the fresh apples. She still kinda really wanted to at least stroke her a little. In that case, she gladly obliged to the offering, mumbling a “thank you” as she slowly held it out to the Ponyta, who seemed to note the treats being pulled out. She knew a prideful Pokemon when she saw one, and she certainly knew how they get when said pride gets hurt. ...or, at the very least, she knew a grump when she saw one. (Reminiscent of a little barter between her and Fen’s boisterous Staraptor...) Best not make her feel worse now. “I shouldn’t have reached out like that. Sorry.” she started, gently reaching for her withers. “More apples at least, right? I’m guessing caramel wasn’t quite your speed--can’t go wrong with plain, after all.” Compared to her tone talking to the other two, she seemed more casual when idly talking to the horse. With each pet, Maris made sure to slightly raise her hand, sort of hovering after each pet, lest she get burnt if Ponyta got too agitated. “And I dunno why you might be down, but I won’t nudge. If you don’t wanna be too bothered, I getcha.” A little contradictory, but she seemed sincere with what she’d said. --- ( “Why won’t you leave me ALONE? Don’t you get TIRED or something?! ) ( “Lio, I can go aalll day, now GIVE IT HERE!” )Unfortunately for Maris, they were causing a bit of a scene in front of the stand where they sold the caramel apples the Helioptile so desired. She glared at the other Electric-type as she held onto the money tightly, now standing on her two legs. Disregarding the other people in line, she had barged through to the front until Fran gave chase and wasted no time in stopping her from reaching for the treats. The fan floated in front of the lizard, standing in between her and the counter. People both waiting in line and those behind the counter confusedly looked at the two Pokemon bicker. Did these two belong to anyone? Were they simply strays that got wrapped up in the festivities? Needless to say, Fran did NOT like the type of attention they were getting. ( “Let. Me. PASS.” ) Lio hissed. ( “I’m just doing what SHE was gonna do ANYWAY!” )( “Cool story, zzzstill THEFT!” ) they retorted. ( “And you couldn’t just wait?!” )( “NO, I couldn’t, thank you very MUCH! Not with that...b-BEAST several inches away from me! You saw her! I could practically FEEL the heat off of her!” )The Rotom sighed. ( “Yess, I did, now just--come on, you’re cauzzing a scene--” ) ( “Well so are YOU!” ) The Helioptile stuck her tongue out at the other, causing Fran to grow red in the face, but only further steel themselves in between her and the counter of sweets. Seems like it’d be a standoff between the two until one of them broke face...

He was about to go off to look for some apples to give the Ponyta, but luckily her owner produced a paper bag full of them, before he gave it a curious look. “I hope you don’t mind,” he began as he reached one of his gloved hands in and pulled out a rather large, shiny apple.
Damian then made sure to at least run it across his jacket, polishing it a few times before holding it up in the Fire-type’s direction before continuing, “Apple for your thoughts?” with an innocent look on his face, holding out the apple in the Fire Horse’s direction, watching and waiting to see if the Pokémon would take the bait and eat it.
At least food can calm down the savage beast most of the time, that much I know… he thought to himself as he looked over the crowd, trying to keep an eye out for the young girl’s companions; hopefully they would return soon. But at the same time, he couldn’t help but be worried. What was taking them so long? Was there a line?
“Do they take this long when they want food?” he turned to ask the younger girl, his other hand having gone into the pocket of his jacket and holding a certain Moon Ball. “They should be back by now…” he added with a bit of concern in his voice as he continued to look over the milling crowd, trying to pick out where the Helioptile and Rotom had gone off to.

Irritation Ponyta didn't much care for the small talk and what she pereived as condescending down talk, but she would gladly take those apples off their hands since they were being so kind and junk. The large equine bit down onto the apple the girl held towards her, humming as she chowed down on the fruit. The girl wasn't wrong; the caramel thing didn't hold a candle to the real deal, far as the pokemon was concerned. Mei-Long allowed her gaze to wander as the Ponyta was fed, her gaze shifting between the stalls around them disinterestedly. There were a few game stalls she was sure Meditite would enjoy, which she would have to remember for later. Ponyta could appreciate the little girl's discretion and non-intrusiveness. She certainly didn't care for being asked questions at the moment, so such an assurance was nice. She snorted softly as she finished eating the apple, down to the core, shaking her head slightly as goosebumps began spreading over her fur. The flames along her spine grew larger and warmer, though they did not burn off at the girl's hand. The Ponyta promptly turned her gaze towards the man instead, cocking her head slightly at the offered apple. For his sake she would assume he was making a pun, and not actually implying she was at all upset about nothing. Cause she wasn't. Already irritating herself with her line of thought, the Ponyta chomped down onto the apple with a sharp snort, munching onto the fruit testily as she did. Mei-Long simply snorted at the entire exchange as her gaze came back to the group. "If you don't mind me asking." She started suddenly, her gaze shifting between the two. "Why are you two at the Gala? Family?" Perhaps boredom? She didn't think there was anything wrong with being at the gala, being there herself and all, but she was curious about other's peoples reasons to be there. It would have surely been a long journey to some.
