Long version of everything up there:
One thing that makes him stand out is his height—while being half an inch short of six feet flat (he stands at 5’11 ½”), Damian towers over most of the people he meets. Due to his height, one might be cowed at his initially intimidating façade; but that’s only because of his hulking figure. His complexion is a bit on the pale side, but not ghastly-white; and he has deep-purple eyes. His body frame he’d inherited from his father: lean and lithe, but strong.
While his hair is just a general mess atop his head with his bangs equally messily parted to frame his face, he prefers to leave it to its own devices, often running his hands through it a few times before going on with the rest of his day. Some people have mistaken him to be an beige-blonde, but fact of the matter is that his hair is more on the lighter shade of ash-blond, although lighting differences tend to make his crowning glory shine differently. Another one of his other noticeable features is his rather prominent nose, something that’s gotten him into quite a bit of trouble as a kid. With the way it’s grown out, though, he’s rather proud of it. He has very expressive features, despite his intimidating initial appearance.
Most of the contents of his wardrobe are on the darker side of the spectrum; with a preference for shirts and equally comfortable jeans. He rotates between a pair of sturdy hiking boots or classic high-cut sneakers, and hides most of this under an equally-wide assortment of long-sleeved jackets or overcoats. He's also never seen without a scarf, despite the weather.
There’s also a reason why he prefers wearing jackets: this is in order to hide several scars (12 in all, 6 on each side) crisscrossing the underside of his wrists. If he’s absolutely got to forgo the jacket entirely (or is forced to wear short-sleeved clothing), he avoids showing people the underside of his wrists as much as possible. Along with wearing the jacket, him wearing scarves almost all the time has another reason, although it's slightly sinister: he is hiding something underneath the scarf; namely a set of bandages that covers a second set of long, deep scars that mar his neck. Put it down to stupid mistakes he'd made back in uni, but he would never reveal this batch of scars to anyone…unless you're one of his best friends.
Hidden up on his back are two rather detailed tattoos—a pair of wings; with the one on the left being that of an angel; while the one on the right is that of a demon’s. These he’d gotten during that one year in uni where it was literally his fall from heaven, straight into hell (in a manner of speaking). Completing the entire ensemble is a set of piercings on both his left and right ears; although his right ear has two additional piercings.
Casual, Formal
PERSONALITY
Intelligent: he wouldn’t have chosen his field of aeronautical engineering if he wasn’t one of the smartest people in the bunch. Emerging from an early age, he’s shown wit and wisdom that sometimes is beyond his actual age. When it comes to multiple topics of science and technology, he knows how to navigate these fields without much trouble. He’s also proficient in other fields of study as well.
Observant: he always keeps an eye out on anything and everything that happens around him. Sometimes, though, this can get out of hand because he’d end up watching rather suspicious activities that would be really embarrassing otherwise.
Hard-working: a trait that he exemplifies to the fullest; once Damian gets started on something, he will continue to work on it until the result presents itself. Sometimes, though, his being hard-working can get the better of him and he tends to neglect his health, which is a bad thing in itself.
Patient: if there’s something that he’s rather proud of, it’s the fact that his fuse is much longer than most. It takes a long time to make him angry, and one would be wise to not test his patience, because if ever he’d end up snapping, his temper would be…
Explosive: like a fleeting volcano, he rarely snaps; but when he does, expect to see a ball of fury walking towards you (and probably wanting to strangle or smack you upside the head for that idiot mistake). His temper is best released up in one big, aggressive shot, and then it’s back to his pleasant, uber-patient nature.
Passionate: both a positive and negative for Damian, whenever someone brings up anything he’s interested in, he’d immediately snap on to the topic and discuss things to his heart’s content. Of course, this doesn’t come without its downside: sometimes he can get too carried away and not realize that he’s overstepping on some boundaries.
Klutzy: He isn’t exactly the most careful of individuals at times. Thankfully, he’s not as accident-prone as everyone else thinks whenever they see him. He gets nervous easily, which contributes to him being clumsy. Thankfully, he hasn’t dropped anything too important—yet.
Moody: A side of his which rarely slips out unless dire circumstances call for it, Damian isn’t really the picture of a “prim and proper” individual whenever something happens that shakes him to his very core. He keeps this hidden from the world as much as possible, because it’s tied in with certain tendencies he’d picked up on during a certain point of his life. If and when on the off-chance it does slip out, his personality tends to veer off into the extremes, despite the strong, firm exterior he normally presents to the rest to the world.
BACKGROUND
(content warning for suicide attempt)
Normally, when one hears of the Moreaus, the first thing that comes to their minds is Flying-type Pokémon. With clan members scattered across Johto, Hoenn and Unova, most of, if not all of them are immersed in the field of flight. While the males tend to gravitate more towards becoming Bird Keepers and part-timers at the Flying-type Gyms located in the three aforementioned regions, there are a few others who’ve immersed themselves in the field of aeronautical engineering and rocket science. Females who marry into the Moreau clan tend to be performers, with some of them being Coordinators who specialize in Flying-types; while others are fashion models and environmentalists.
Damian, who hails from the Hoenn branch of the Moreau clan, was born on one balmy, autumn evening in Fortree to his parents, Ivan and Natalia Moreau. It didn’t take long for his parents to notice that just like them, he’d eventually be dealing with Pokémon as well. Most of his early childhood was spent either running between his dad’s avian sanctuary in Fortree or accompanying his mother to her performances in Lilycove. The moment he’d began talking, his parents were surprised to find out that he wanted to fly in the sky, quite literally.
This, of course, earned him more than a few chuckles from his parents; with his mother telling him to “get his head out of the clouds”, while his father could only grin and sigh. Ivan had the same dream as his son did, but had given up on it when he’d realized that it was an impossible dream. Damian, however, didn’t want to let that notion go, that humans could really fly in the sky.
Inspired by one of the stories he’d read as a kid—the one that involved a father and son making wings that allowed them to escape from the island they were trapped on, but the son dying in the process as he flew too close to the sun—Damian wanted to solve the mystery of how people flying without wings could be made possible.
Of course, due to his bookish nature, he tended to keep to himself, which in turn made him an easy target for the schoolyard bullies. Much as he didn’t want to fight back (and just preferred to be left alone to his own devices) he couldn’t shake them away from him, and decided to beat them in other meaningful ways; one of which was literally studying his ass off. This, in turn, got him recognized from such a young age in school. At the same time this happened, though, he had his reasons for hiding behind books: his Aura powers had manifested, and he had no idea on how to confront the prospect of seeing colored hazes around everyone else (including his parents).
Normally, when a kid reaches ten years of age, they normally start their journey out into the Pokémon world; but for Damian, he didn’t want to go out in the world—something that hurt his parents for the next few years. While his father was initially happy with the choice he made of staying in school, as the years went by, both of them waited to see if he’d eventually take on the same travel-lust as most children his age did; but it didn’t happen.
Instead he’d begin to make a name for himself, topping most of the science and mathematics-related courses in school. His parents hoped that after high school, he’d finally get that itch to travel. Well, Damian did, but it wasn’t in the way they were expecting: he wanted to go on further to college, and follow some of his relatives in the Unova region who were rocket scientists and aeronautical engineers. This, of course, sparked the beginning of a misunderstanding between him and his mother.
While his father was supportive of the decision (since Ivan’s older brother was one of the Moreaus in Unova who’d made a name for himself in the field of rocket science), his mother didn’t want any part of it. Despite the protests and several weeks’ worth of arguments, Damian had won the right to go to college—at the Mossdeep Institute of Science and Technology, albeit at the expense of breaking his relationship with his mother. At the same time the cracks began appearing between himself and his mother, he’d began searching out other individuals who’d pay him a second glance whenever he’d bring up the subject of being able to see Aura not just around people, but with Pokémon as well.
Some of their relatives had already passed through its halls previously, and Damian was one of the youngest accepted into the prestigious academy: at the age of sixteen, he’d finally made the move to Mossdeep and continued his road down the field of education, working towards a degree in aeronautical engineering, with a minor in space development.
His first and second years in college sped by without too much incident; if not for the fact that his own strengthening Aura abilities would give him terrible migraines that would cause him to skip out on classes from time to time. To be fair, he'd tried to look for any reference materials to this strange thing that he'd seemingly developed since he was younger, only to find almost nothing on the subject matter (well, it was expected, he's in a university that caters to science and technology, so material on something like Aura wouldn't be available readily). Juggling his own workload (along with the two idiots he'd met who would eventually become his lifelong friends) along with looking further into what Aura was about, he'd slowly but surely began learning how to control his power—and subsequently, the migraines that came with his own ‘special ability’ lessened once he'd managed to ‘turn off’ his sight at will.
After that breakthrough, things continued to go normally for Damian; at least until the summer of his third year came rolling around: it was at this time his life would take a flip upside the head. He’d been studiously ignoring girls for the longest time, but whenever he would see a rather handsome-looking guy, he’d feel something fluttering inside him. It was around this time he’d realized that he wasn’t like most guys around him, and decided to keep this a secret.
At least, until a certain someone came along.
The summer before his third year in college, the MIST had played host to foreign students from another affiliated university, and this was where he’d met his first love—never mind if Damian was just 18, and Amon was 22—there was something he couldn’t put down. While he was still afraid to publicly acknowledge that his preference wasn’t on the same side as everyone else around him, the two begun to hang out together.
Amon certainly didn’t seem to mind Damian’s advances at all, but he found it really strange was that little arrangement they’d agreed to: since he was only staying for a certain amount of time, they’d agreed to go by their middle names. He didn’t mind, even if it felt weird being called ‘Alexandre’ instead of by his first name; but nobody else needed to know that, right?
Of course, he wasn’t expecting to confess his feelings to him during that span of time (albeit rather awkwardly) that he couldn’t stop looking at him; and that whenever he was around the older man, he certainly felt very comfortable—not the same way he’d feel whenever girls would come up and confess to him. He just found it really weird that girls were attracted to him, and would, more often than not, have to turn all these girls down as gently as possible.
However, with that confession would come the start of a spiral that would drive Damian very nearly out of his mind. When he’d found out that the group of students that included his then-boyfriend at the time had already gone back to where they’d come from, he was devastated. What made it worse was that in the week leading up to the time the contingent left, Amon had deliberately avoided meeting with Damian; not returning his texts, his calls—anything.
That was certainly the best, and also the absolute worst, point of his life.
From one of the students running for top honors come graduation when his batch reached fourth year, he’d lost interest in studying, basically unable to come to terms with what had happened that one day. He felt betrayed, to say the least. He’d begin to skip classes here and there, and would sneak out of the campus and would go on parties with some of the other more…relaxed members of the student body. Here he’d pick up on his hard drinking, and had gotten the “secret pair” that’s etched into his back.
During the middle of his third year second semester in college, he’d stopped turning up in his classes altogether, which then raised the alarm among the few friends he’d made. While he did struggle to keep afloat with the coursework, there was something definitely wrong with the way he’d just shut himself off from the entire world: it ended with a trip to the hospital where he’d nearly lost his life due to him trying to commit suicide in his dorm room on-campus (had his best friends not found him, who knows what would've happened). Due to what had happened to him, he had to stay behind a year in order to repeat the classes he’d missed.
Well, that was an interesting way to mar the family name.
When his mother had found out what had happened to him the already-strained relationship between them got even worse, which ended with both mother and son shutting themselves off from each other—with a very confused father trapped in the middle. Either way, Damian had managed to graduate at the age of twenty; despite the fact that he’d “fallen from grace” and had to work his way back up into repairing the reputation of the Hoenn-based Moreaus.
After finishing his collegiate studies, Damian decided to take a few months off from finding work (the better to find himself once again after what he’d done) and had gone around Hoenn, on a search of sorts. While accompanied by a Sableye with an emerald for a core, he sought out other individuals who knew something about Aura. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to find anyone who was well-versed enough to teach him about his strange abilities. Hoping that he’d be able to find answers outside of his home region, he told his father that he’d be leaving on his (very belated) journey out into the world.
Leaving in the dead of the night, he then began his long journey to the Stellara region, coming upon an injured Riolu that had been left to die. He'd read about how some certain Pokémon were more sensitive and receptive to Aura than others, and he knew that the Riolu species was one of them. He'd decided to delay his journey for a few days, which eventually became several weeks, as he tended to the young Riolu's injuries and kept a close eye on the young one during the recovery process. Even after the Riolu had recovered well enough to return back to the wild, the young one had grown rather fond of him. No matter how many times he'd try to gently send the Riolu back into the wild, he wasn't going to have any of that, and after reading the aura of the small Emanation 'mon that he'd cared for, he knew that this one wouldn't back down, no matter how many times Damian would gently tell him to return to the wild; but then again, could Pokémon really understand human speech?
Seeing as the Riolu had most likely been abandoned by its parents, he decided to take the young one along with him, naming the Riolu Alexei in the process; although there were times he'd call his companion by Alyosha and the other would respond just the same. Was it possible the little one knew about diminutives? Either way, he was more than happy to have the Riolu hang around with him as one became two on their journey to Stellara.
STARTER
NAME: Alexei [Alyosha]
LEVEL: 5
SPECIES: Riolu, the Emanation Pokemon
TYPE: Fighting (Fighting / Steel upon evolution)
EGG GROUP: Undiscovered (Field / Human-Like upon evolution to Lucario)
ABILITY: Inner Focus
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: 2'09"
WEIGHT: 45.7lbs
MOVE LIST: Agility (EM) / Quick Attack / Endure / Foresight
PERSONALITY: Alexei, otherwise known as Alyosha, is the Riolu that Damian met during his journey from Hoenn to Stellara. While rarely spotted in the wild, the happy, adventurous, happy-go-lucky Emanation Pokémon took a liking to this particular human he’d encountered after the human had tended to its injuries.
But of course, underneath that carefree façade the Riolu is ready to take a step forward and defend his owner—no, his friend. Alexei isn’t the kind of Riolu that would lash out without warning; he prefers to observe things carefully before plunging into the heat of things.
There are some days, though, that Alyosha would rear his reckless streak and just bust onto the scene without warning and attack, attack, attack! Thankfully, Damian’s there to keep the young Pokémon’s head on straight.
