Koontz made his way agilely through the jungle foliage with the ease of someone who made a living out of sneaking around. He wore a simple loose black muscle shirt and dark jeans torn at the knees to allow maneuverability. His goggles were hanging loosly around his neck rather than on his forehead like usual, they had slipped off soon after he entered the jungle and frankly he didn't care enough to fix it at the moment. This patch of jungle was laced thick with vines and it took all his focus to navigate the trip-ups without incident. Not to mention once in awhile he swore a plant would move. At first he thought perhaps it was a Pokemon, but no, there were strange and freaky plants in this dark humid place.
As if to emphasize his thoughts a quiet hissing sound filled the air as he hopped off a tree root, sending shivers straight up Koontz's spine. Although it sounded similar to air escaping from under the moss at his feet he never-the-less moved immediately and rolled off his shoulder just as a fluorescent green liquid sprayed the tree beside where he had been standing a only moment ago. Are you kidding me? Obviously he had picked a horrible part of the Jungle to enter, but from where he crouched he could see the route thin out up ahead. So he was just unlucky then. Or... well, it hadn't been him that had picked this route.
Koontz glanced into the canopy above his head and could just make out the outline of Lahash. The Dartrix was a mysterious and cold Pokemon, but Koontz had already gotten a reading on how it thought. Though he kept that from Lahash and played along with it's game as if oblivious. To Lahash Koontz was more pawn than trainer. A fact that Koontz could deal with had it not been for the fact that the Pokemon seemed to be constantly testing him for weakness. It was making things harder than they need be. He stood and brushed off his shoulder before continuing on toward the area where Dr.Logan had said the plants should be. Still alive, bird.

Koontz leaned against a thick tree and looked around to get his bearings, studying the moss as well as the angle of the sunlight shafts that cut through the canopy. He had started to turn to far east and needed to correct that before he ended up completely off his planned route. He was about to start off again when a sound caught his attention from the brush behind him. Had something been following him? He quickly slipped behind the wide tree and slowed his breathing to become silent, thankful he was downwind of whatever Pokemon had gotten curious or hostile about his presence this time.
He was surprised to hear a Growlithe. As far as he knew it wasn't a Pokemon local to the jungle, they much preferred open areas where they could run down prey. However as a girl's voice answered the Pokemon the pieces fell together. A trainer, and a young one by the sounds of it. It seemed she too had been sent by Dr.Logan.
He decided it would be best to show himself now, rather than wait for her Pokemon to figure out they weren't alone. He may be down-wind but in a jungle the movement of the thick air could change very quickly.
"Did Dr.Logan send you as well, Miss?" Koontz stepped out from behind the tree and offered the girl a warm smile. He was aware Growlithe were often highly protective but he had already judged the distance to give himself enough time should the Pokemon react badly. After all, he wasn't sure he could count on Lahash to step in without giving the Pokemon an order first. It was just the kind of Pokemon he was.
Suddenly Lahash's warning cry split the air, but it wasn't directed at the girl and her Growlithe. The owl Pokemon had noticed something else lurking nearby. Though the cry alone didn't tell Koontz much else regarding the danger's location. In this jungle it could be literally anything.

Koontz tilted his head to the side and regarded the picture curiously. The Doctor hadn't given Koontz a picture of the plant, just a description and general whereabouts... though frankly he probably would have turned down the offer anyway. Koontz had never been one for having a hand tied in dangerous territory, even if it was just a picture, and he preferred his hands free.
"That so? Well the more the merrier Miss."
His body immediately tensed and he crouched low as the bushes rustled suddenly and violently. A red flash erupted from his belt and shot to his shoulder as Robin appeared perching on him seconds before the Fomantis burst into view. Although he had been worried it could be something far more threatening the little Pokemon were problematic none the less. Not dangerous, just... problematic. After all Koontz had a poison fire type and a flying type, and the girl also had a fire Pokemon that looked about as strong as Lahash was.
Koontz relaxed a little and took the development in stride. Perhaps this would be a good opportunity for some experience. He raised his hand in a 'steady' gesture to Lahash above and gave a simple grin, his gaze shifting to Robin on his shoulder.
"Give them a warning shot Robin." The Salandit hissed in return as her hip markings shot fire and she parted her jaws, gladly shooting off an ember at the closest Fomantis in the approaching group.
"Ssssssaaaaa! [Back off!]"

[/b] fireball. The flames hit the nearest Fomantis, causing it to run away in both fright and pain. The group gawked at the fire at the moment before deciding to make a run for it, preferring to get less sleep than to die in flaming glory. "Well that was easy," Lori remarked with a nod, now they can just focus on finding all the plants. With that said, there was a round bulbous one right here! She went over and picked a large round purple plant with green leaves, putting it under an arm. "My name is Lori, what's yours?" she asked, offering a cheerful introduction. [/ul] |

Koontz cocked his head to the side and straightened up. A mix of mild surprise and disappointment flashed briefly across his face before he blinked and the emotion was gone, replaced with his usual calm friendly expression. Scaring them off had been easier than he expected and there wasn't much to be gained from the experience, but he supposed he was here for something else after all, so maybe it was good the fight had been brief. He reached up and stroked the agitated Salandit on his shoulder to try and calm her. He was unbothered by the burning heat her body was giving off even though it felt like his shoulder might catch fire at any moment, he had long since gotten used to getting burned to the point that his skin had become a little more resilient. Of course, that didn't help anything if she caught his thin muscle shirt aflame.
"You did good, Bin." After a few moments of the calm petting Robin gave a content huff and relaxed. She drooped on his shoulder and wrapped her strong tail around his neck, not strong enough to choke him but just enough to help keep her balance. Koontz returned his attention to the girl just in time to see her pick up a round purple...oh. He blinked and watched for a moment before deciding to hold his tongue and simply answer the girl's question.
"Pleasure to meet you Lori, my name is Koontz Dekker." He gave a polite dip of his head careful not to disturb the Salandit and smiled at Lori. "The girl on my shoulder is Robin, and the one lurking in the trees is called Lahash." As if in response Lahash swooped out of the canopy and perched on a lower branch, eyeing the girl and her Pokemon suspiciously. Koontz paid him no mind and kept his focus on the girl, curious if the Dr had given her any more information he had neglected to tell Koontz.
"Did Dr.Logan give you any further information other than the picture? I was only given a description of the plant and coordinates to a place he thought some might be."

[/font][/b] she remarked, patting him on the arm. She returns all friendliness with her own set of bubbly friendship, unless it was part of some Team Crux grunt missions. It was surprising how easy things went though, it was a good idea to have brought along her Growlithe after all. The Pokemon almost chased after the retreating Pokemon, but the trainer managed to drag it back. It seemed to be preoccupied on chewing on a piece of bark, better that then Koontz. "That there is Arc! This is Lili!" she remarked, using her free hand to pull out a snoozing Igglybuff from her hoodie. She waved the Pokemon at Koontz's face for a moment before depositing the little gal back into her hoodie. The Growlithe let out a snort seeing the pink puffball, but went back to shredding the bark. "I only have the pictures and the directions, we only need a few samples, so it'll be easy peasy," she remarked, puffing out her chest. "I got one already, I think!" she said, showing the purple fruit with the green top to her partner, before putting it under an arm. She also had the other one she collected before they were so rudely interrupted as well. "Why don't you lead! I can follow."[/ul] |

The girl's confidence brought out a small smirk from Koontz. She had an odd flare about her that he hadn't come across before in his travels. It was quite refreshing in a way. He nodded and after a quick glance around to get his sense of direction back he headed off toward the area the Dr had marked. If he was correct it wasn't much further ahead. They were already more than half way there which Koontz found odd. Granted the area they had entered was dangerous, but he didn't see why the Doctor couldn't of gotten in via a safer way to get the plants himself. Maybe he simply didn't have any Pokemon to protect him? Or was there Pokemon here that would pose more danger than the Fomantis gang?
Regardless he kept his guard up as usual and moved quickly and sure-footed, though he did hold back a little to make sure the girl wouldn't fall behind. Although Koontz was pretty average in height he still stood an entire foot taller than the girl, and so he was rather mindful of her smaller leg-span as they continued. For the most part he choose his paths through the foliage with lesser climbing hazards a shorter person would find annoying. Though of course this led to him running into a few spots were his bit of height advantage proved a problem itself and he was forced to duck low to avoid overhead hazards such as a few odd thorned branches.
Despite this they were making good time and soon entered the ravine that was said to be home to the plants they needed. It really couldn't be this easy, could it?
"This should be the place."

Koontz moved into the open ravine and gave the area a quick scan before he pulled a fabric mesh bag out of his back pocket and crouched to collect some of the plants the Dr. had requested. As he worked he listened to Lori flutter around collecting her own haul and smiled. Honestly he was collecting a little more than they needed in the hopes that perhaps the Dr. wasn't the only one interested in these plants. He had learned in his life that if something was difficult to procure it usually meant there were many out there willing to pay a pretty penny for it. He doubted Dr.Logan was the only person studying foliage here in Stellara and there was no reason for him to not take advantage of that.
He stiffened as he heard the call and at once knew it meant a complication had arrived. Most likely the same danger Lahash had warned them about earlier, though it seemed he thought a second warning was to much effort. Koontz remained crouched but shifted his weight onto his heels and glanced up just as the Toucannon took to the sky after swooping at the girl.
"I see. Pesky thing ain't it?" It wasn't attacking yet but that would swiftly change. Best to deal with it quickly. Koontz let out a low whistle and made a gesture with his hand before turning his back to the Toucannon and continuing to collect the plants, trusting robin to give him a heads up should the Pokemon take a dive at him.
Meanwhile at the whistle Lahash shot out of the canopy and let out a sharp cry. He eyed up the other bird silently before suddenly swooping close, his wings releasing a blast of ominous wind at the wild Pokemon without warning. It had begun.
