PERSONALITY
Koontz is a laid back sort of guy and a born manipulator. He has a curious habit of mirroring what he believes others want to see in him. You want a playboy? You got it. Deviant? Easy, done. What started out as a tactic for survival slowly became habit, to the point that even Koontz is unsure who he really is anymore.
Koontz has no real values when it comes to what is good and what is evil. He believes such things are really a matter of perspective and have no place in the natural order of things. After all something one person thinks is good and moral could easily be viewed as evil by another.
Koontz believes that all things can be solved via logic and reasoning. He isn’t prone to loosing his temper or having strong emotions and relies heavily on his mind rather than his heart. That isn’t to say he lacks emotion altogether, it’s just more so present in the back of his mind. Such as when he is angry he is fully aware of it, but unless he consciously embraces it, it remains more fact than feeling. Although this level of disassociation is quite helpful in training and defusing conflict, it tends to leave him wondering just what he is missing out on.
At his core Koontz is a nice guy and enjoys the company of others. Although he sometimes has issues understanding others when they act illogically, he always tries to get perspective and to understand them. He is a strange enigma, a friendly guy who simply does bad things.
BACKGROUND
Koontz remembers very little of his childhood, not that there was much he wanted to remember. His parents had been kind and happy together, the kind of couple that never seemed to have left their honeymoon phase. They weren’t rich but did well enough for themselves to raise a child comfortably. Koontz’s first six years of life were pretty normal and actually quite happy. It was what transpired when he was seven that made him try to forget everything.
He was almost eight when his parents had left him at his grandmothers for a date night, something they always tried to do once a week, but this time was different. It was the last time he ever saw them. He had never been told the details surrounding it but his parents had passed away after being involved in an accident. Which left Koontz in his grandmother’s care.
Although his grandma worked very hard to give Koontz anything he wanted, he still drifted through the next few years in a blank blur. He had fun and enjoyed living with her but it just wasn’t the same without his parents around.
By the age of twelve his grandmother had gotten sick and passed away. Once more Koontz was on his own, but this time he ran off before another family member could take him in. The mind of a child was a curious thing. Koontz believed he had been cursed by a ghost Pokemon and refused to get close to anyone, especially those in his family. So he simply went on the run and vanished.
He lived on his own for three years before he learned of Team Crux and by that time he had become quite good at the art of thievery. Immediately he wanted to join Crux but he was quickly dismissed without a second thought. It took him just over a year to finally prove himself and be accepted as a future member when he came of age, but to him it had felt even longer.
Almost immediately after joining the boy became attached to a man, despite his belief of being cursed, who swiftly became his mentor. The man was a brilliant martial artist and Koontz ate up everything he sought to teach the boy. For five years Koontz lived and breathed his mentor’s teachings, and he proved to be a quick learner and motivated student. A skill that became very useful when you shared a housing unit with a teenager morph suffering from constant anger issues.
Although his roommate had never gotten truly violent at that point, the kid did have a strong loyalty to anyone under Crux after all, there were a few times where Koontz would have felt quite at risk had he not been taught a way to defend himself. However, this skill didn’t prepare him nor serve him when he really did need it. During a training spar with the younger man Koontz hurt him by accident, and the morph’s reaction will follow him for the rest of his life. Before he could apologize and seek help for the kid, he was blindsided by a vicious attack and pinned to the ground. This is how he came to have the wicked scars across his back. He awoke in an infirmary and after months of healing he slowly recovered, though he never forgot that lesson.
Almost a year has passed since he healed and he now spends most of his time building a strong team and experiencing the world outside Team Crux. He still gladly does missions of course and works hard, but he rarely spends a night at headquarters anymore. Even though he knows his roommate had left and the danger passed. It was time he gained some newer experiences for better or for worse. Thanks to a friend he came to obtain Robin, a Salandit who had serious trust issues with humans. During their first meeting Robin attacked and sank her fangs into Koontz's arm, however when Koontz didn't make any move to fight back but instead just patiently waited for her to release him he apparently made a lasting impression on the Salandit. Since then the Pokemon has not left his side and together they have begin to build a team.

Robin is a sassy and sometimes aloof Pokemon when it comes to other humans and even other Pokemon. She rarely gets along with others and instead likes to cling to Koontz's back like a rucksack and watch others suspiciously. When she feels threatened she is the kind of Pokemon to spit fire now and ask questions later.
