MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Lately, it seemed, Arthur had been hit by many a dilemma that forced him to socialise, and he felt that the residents of the Wright Corp. Tower were conspiring against him. Because of the aftermath of the first gym battle, the young man figured that fighting three trainers was going to take way too long for his liking, thus finally deciding to revamp the gym. Importing rather expensive warp tiles from Kanto, the Wright Corp. Tower now had its very own glow in the dark maze that was sure to challenge his, well, challengers. His mother once remarked that it looked like a lovely idea for a tourist spot, but Arthur didn't like the idea of random people just showing up. It was strictly for trainers only, specifically those that were interested in taking his trial. Anyway, he had already tested it on himself numerous times. He kept a key card now around his neck that the warp recognises. It allowed him to traverse to any part of the maze, overriding its original destination so that it was easier for him to monitor things. Eventually though, this master key was just going to be used to jump from the start to the end of the maze, and also activating the main warp panel for challengers to do the same after the battle. His Pokemon had some fun testing out the warps as well, and because his team had grown so quickly over the last couple of days, it was also a good time to get to know them better. Unfortunately, his usual guinea pig Lucas called in sick today, so he needed someone else to test the panels. None of the staff were willing as they were too busy doing their own jobs. Ugh, this meant that he had to ask someone else outside. He didn't want for the first trial testing to be a legitimate challenger. What if something went wrong? Better to ask a random stranger, Arthur thought. Eevee had taken to following his master everywhere, having been bred not only to be a lap Pokemon but also (in a way) a guard. Sometimes he would be walking beside him, other times he was carried. Spinda was having a bit too much fun with the warps, seemingly becoming even dizzier than usual despite the fact that these panels no longer made the user spin before teleporting. Sigilyph was mostly hovering over the panels, wondering how they worked exactly (was it magic?) while Venipede and Ponyta were back in his mother's garden. Arthur decided that Ponyta was mainly going to be a ride Pokemon, so she would mainly stay with the other Pokemon in the reserve until the young man left town. Venipede basically didn't want to go out today, but eventually he was going to train the little bug. And Woobat? Well, she was sticking to Arthur, as usual. So now came the predicament of finding someone who'd be interested in being a guinea pig for him. Not really thinking much into it, he decided that he might as well post a small sign outside the building; kind of like a quest advertisement. He had written on it: Looking for someone to help test something. Will pay with pocket change and permission to pet Eevee. Interested people may come inside and ask the counter to start. Alright, he supposed that would do. He told the clerk to notify him if anyone did bother to take his request seriously. He wondered if anyone was going to walk in the door for today? Thinking that this was going to take a while, he pulled out one of his handheld consoles and played with it to pass the time. There was something jarring about simply wandering a city on his own with nothing breathing down his neck 24/7. Toki and his Absol, Lota, walked together through the lively streets of Eridani City after being cleared by authorities over certain incidents in Vega City not too long ago. It was a point of conflict for Toki as he really didn't feel like he deserved freedom or the access to emergency contacts in the event suspicious activity occurred, but he wasn't really in a place to refuse this opportunity to try and live his life. Though this newfound freedom meant he needed to find a way to earn some money, at least so he could eat and rest at an inn somewhere. This city was different from Vega. It was quieter. People went about their daily business, exchanging pleasantries...it wasn't so crowded all the time. The serenity combined with the ocean waves gave Toki a sort of comfort that was certainly welcome. Since he was no longer associated with Crux, he knew they would be after him, so he wanted to try and make himself look a little different, however he might. He ditched the trench coat a while back and simply wears a grey shirt and plain jeans. He brushed a hand through his hair and considered letting it grow out. Longer hair could really change how someone looked at a first glance and the added benefit of obscuring his eyes slightly would help. As he walked the streets, he noticed a building. Was this a gym? He spotted the sign next to it and walked to inspect it. "...how much is pocket change...?" he mused to himself. He scratched his chin a little before he decided to walk inside. Lota stuck close to him. Thankfully the place felt safe enough to the Absol. Whatever needed to be tested, Toki would try his best to get some needed money. The privilege of petting an Eevee was also nice. After he took an initial look around the interior, he would try and find whoever posted the sign. Soon enough he would find someone with a Woobat and seemed to hesitate. He wasn't used to approaching others or initiating conversations. "...excuse me..." he said. He walked towards the man but kept a wide berth. Toki was quite a bit taller and didn't want to accidentally intimidate him with his presence. "...the sign outside...you want help with something...?" he asked. His tone was quiet and more than a little nervous. Lota stood by his side and would be there if Toki needed to pet him to calm him down. Despite his height, Toki was rather unassuming with a somewhat lazy slouch to his posture and worn out clothing. If one were to accuse him of being homeless, well, they wouldn't exactly be wrong. He had hoped to solve that problem sooner rather than later. For now, he would listen to what was needed of him here if this person wanted his assistance. Arthur Wright ----------- Pokemon

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Honestly, the front desk clerk was iffy about letting this very tall and intimidating man into the building. She knew that Mr. Wright had put up the crude sign for help at the front, and she knew that it could easily attract strange folk, but she had hoped that it wasn't going to turn out like that. Unfortunately it seemed that it was too much to hope for. She eyed the man with a hardened gaze, but since he did ask about the job, she supposed she had little choice but to let him pass while ordering a free staff to take down the sign. Once she gave the directions to the gym and sent the man on his way, she alerted the security to keep careful watch on the cameras in the Gym. She was sure that Mr. Wright had his Pokemon with him, so at least he'd be able to defend himself. When Toki entered the room, it was well lit with the walls clearly visible and the warp pad a simple shade of green. During real challenges, all the lights would be off, allowing the glow in the dark paint to light the way. Since they were just testing things though, there was no need for that. Arthur had been leaning one of the walls playing with his console when the man approached him. He looked up and immediately saw that he was...very tall. Also, he didn't seem human, since the young man was looking upward. He was surprised the clerk allowed a morph to enter the building. With some difficulty, Arthur pushed himself up while closing the lid of his gaming console. "Yeah, I needed someone to test these warp panels for the Gym. I've been testing it on myself and my Pokemon, but I just need someone else to give it a shot to make sure." he said, straight to the point. He kind of wanted to ask if he was part of anything suspicious, but since he knew of morphs that were not part of Team Crux, he did not automatically assume. Still, the guy looked kind of suspicious. Sigilyph and Woobat didn't seem to mind, however, so he figured that he could trust their senses. "This is actually a maze, so stepping on the warp pad leads you to another part of the room. If you can get to the other end of the maze, I can give you your reward." Eevee didn't have any idea that he was actually part of the reward. He was just sticking to his Master's side. Arthur noted the man's majestic Absol; a rather rare Pokemon especially because of its reputation, but this one seemed calm.

Toki knew he wasn't exactly trustworthy or the most approachable sort due to his appearance, but he tried to not let it bother him. There wasn't a scene and that's all he could have possibly hoped for. Maybe after doing this and some other odd jobs he'll be able to stay somewhere nice and clean up a bit. He noticed the man close something and seemed rather unsure what it was. While he was curious, he figured he would at least be polite and introduce himself "...I'm Toki..." he said in his usual quiet tone. He took this moment to take in the room again. It was simple, but effective for its intended purpose. After he introduced himself, he listened as Arthur explained what exactly it was he would be doing. It sounded like a painless job all things considered, which was a relief. Still, he would put forth as much effort as he could to help get everything tested for Arthur "...warp pads...?" he seemed a bit interested in the concept and even managed a small smile "...sounds fun...I'll try it..." he said. He wouldn't actually continue forward until he was given the okay to do so by Arthur. While he waited, he wanted to practice his small talk "...I'm sorry...if I scared the person out front..." he said. He rubbed the back of his head nervously. He then noticed that Arthur took note of Lota "...Do you like him...? Lota is a great Pokemon..." he said. He looked happy and proud when he praised Lota. He knelt down to brush his hand along his fur "...A great friend too..." he stood back up and stretched a bit to prepare for what was ahead of him. Once he was given the okay, he would step forward onto the panel. For an instant he felt a strange weightlessness before the world around him flashed once. After that, he would find himself in a completely different part of the room. He felt a bit dizzy, but quickly got over it. Lota looked a bit worried at his Trainer's sudden disappearance and promptly followed him through the warp pad to be at his side again. Toki sighed in relief as Lota found his way to him, but he wondered what the rest of the maze was going to be like. He was a little paranoid as something like this was perfect for ambushing someone. He shook that thought out of his head, however. He wanted to trust Arthur and help him out with this. For now he would take a moment to gauge the new room and think about how to proceed next. ---------- Arthur Wright

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Arthur nodded once, looking at this very tall morph from head to toe before introducing himself as well, "Arthur Wright. You may call me Arthur." this wasn't one of his business meetings, so he didn't need to worry about formalities. Besides, he did not like being called "Mr. Wright"; it reminded him of his dad too much. "And yes, they should be harmless, though admittedly I do not know if they affect morphs differently. I suppose you being here allows me to test if such was the case." he commented when Toki seemed curious about the warp pads. The young man was happy that he at least did not seem bothered by the whole thing. Other people might complain that it was a pain, but then again, he supposed only people who really needed the money would take such a sketchy job. So this guy was just really here for the money; they weren't exactly in a position to complain. "Just step there and it should automatically bring you to another spot in the room." he said while gesturing to the circle on the ground. "Hm? Oh, it is no trouble. I'll tell them later that they had nothing to worry about." Arthur glanced at the Absol again upon learning that his nickname was Lota. Not exactly the kind of name that he'd pick for a harbinger Pokemon, but he decided he wouldn't judge. "He looks well-taken care of." he commented after giving it a bit of thought. It would be pretty sweet to have an Absol, though Dark type Pokemon were not his thing. He silently watched the two enter into the warp pad one by one before following suit. It was mostly Woobat and Eevee following Arthur while his other Pokemon stayed behind in the entrance of the maze, chilling by the walls. "(He looks pretty scary if you ask me.)" Woobat commented before entering the panel. Eevee seemed to agree, but Arthur told them not to make that comment in front of their guest guinea pig. When he was teleported to another part of the room, there were no immediate panels in sight. As far as Arthur recalled, there were two in this section to choose from. "Are you alright? Feeling any sort of dizziness or light headedness?" he asked while approaching the morph.

Toki nodded in response to Arthur's introduction. He didn't want to seem rude and skip pleasantries, but it seemed like everything was underway already. Everything seemed to be going smoothly so far, and when Arthur followed him to the other side of the warp pad, he responded to what he said about the clerk "I...hate scaring people...I never mean to..." he said with a sigh. He smiled softly when he mentioned that Lota looked well taken care of "...thank you. I try my best..." he said. He took the time to appreciate that this whole system was well put together. "...you really like your gym...this took...a lot of effort..." he said. He was a little more comfortable talking, but still spoke in his usual quiet tone. Lota padded around the room, but didn't stray far from his trainer. He looked up at the Woobat, then at the Eevee, a gentle expression on his features. Despite their reputation as harbingers of chaos and devastation, he seemed happy to be around others and to see Toki socialize a little. No one here was a threat to either of them, so he had no reason to look suspicious or on edge. He walked over and curled up next to Toki until it was time to go again. Toki seemed to understand the meaning to what the Woobat had said and looked away, slightly ashamed that he gave off that vibe. He calmed down a bit to respond to Arthur's question "I'm fine...a little dizzy after the warp...but it went away quickly..." he said, hoping that was a result that Arthur was pleased with. There didn't seem to be any other active panels in this room...if there were they were currently inactive. Maybe they were doing this one step at a time, so that someone didn't just try and rush through the puzzle without actually giving feedback to it. While he needed the money, Toki actually cared about helping make this work for the gym. After he got over his initial paranoia, this was actually a pretty interesting and fun idea for a puzzle. "I'm ready to move on...whenever you are." he said. For the time being he sat down and pet Lota. -------- Arthur Wright

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "Hm? Oh, well, I think you're fine." he commented, not aware that he was referring to the clerk earlier. "I had--have a friend who's a morph, so..." Arthur's voice trailed off, realising his mistake. He had seen Leon not too long ago at the Gala, though the whole thing was still a shock to him. Sometimes he would still think that the last time he saw the Servine morph was years ago when they were separated. He tried to shake those thoughts off. He had already spent a lot of time thinking about it, so he would reserve such reflections for later. The gym leader showed a small smile that his comment about Lota was well-received. He wasn't sure how to respond about the next thing Toki said, however. Sure he did like the thrill of battle, but at the same time...hm. Guess he did like the gym in one way or another. He wasn't going to let go of it easily if someone decided to take it from him. "Thank you as well. I am glad that the feeling gets across."Arthur and his Pokemon didn't notice that Toki seemed to understand Woobat's comment, so they mostly paid attention to his reaction with the warp panels. "I guess that's normal. Maybe I need to figure out a way to make it less dizzying for people, in case those prone to it take the warping pretty hard." the last few bits were mostly mutterings to himself as he looked thoughtful. "Well, for now, I would like to see what happens as you go through the maze. That is, if you end up getting dizzier, or you get used to it." personally for him he seemed to be the latter, thankfully. Walking through warps almost felt natural now, and he didn't feel any sort of light-headedness when moving from one spot to the other. Perhaps it was because the warps were powered by both electricity and psychic power. "The next panels should be by the end of this hall. I'll let you choose which one you want to pick."What Arthur meant by this was that at the end of the corridor, it would split into two. On each end there were warp pads similar to the first one that Toki and Lota had stepped on. toki ✖ omg i took forever

There was a sense of calm about Arthur that made Toki more comfortable for the time being. When Arthur didn't seem nervous around him it made him feel a little better. He tilted his head when he mentioned having a friend who's a morph "...they're lucky...to have a friend like you. Who accepts them." he mustered a small smile. He wasn't quite aware of how most people treated morphs, but he was going based on what he could remember from Crux's treatments of him in particular. In any case, Toki was glad that Arthur was appreciative of his compliment. He listened when Arthur explained that the dizziness was a common occurrence and that the rest of the test will be seeing whether or not he gets more or less dizzy as it goes on. Seemed easy enough "...it's a new sensation...if I get used to it...maybe it is okay for others." he said, hoping that would lessen Arthur's worries about the whole system if he had too many to begin with. He brushed the top of Lota's head one more time before he stood up to prepare for the next warp panel. He stepped forward and thought for a moment. There was no way to really tell which one would be the right one. This puzzle was more designed for trial and error experimentation. For now, he and Lota took a left turn down the hallway and stepped onto the panel that awaited them. Once again, the weightless sensation transported them to a new part of the maze, though this time Toki seemed less dizzy this time around. He comfortably stepped off the panel into the next room and simply blinked a little bit to focus again. Whenever Arthur would follow him, he would explain "...not as dizzy. I expected it, so it was not so jarring...maybe...explain how they work...so people can anticipate. Perhaps a sign or guide." he hoped that would help at least somewhat. The dizziness at first was a minor inconvenience, but after the first time it's hardly even noticeable. It might be different for others, though. "...never really been through gyms...do they all have puzzles and tricks...?" he asked, genuinely curious about the nature of gym challenges. Lota looked up at his trainer and seemed rather pleased. He was starting to become a bit more talkative, which was really nice to see due to being used to Toki's usual quiet, shy nature. It wasn't much talking, though not much talking was still better than no talking. Arthur Wright

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Arthur wasn't sure how to reply to that. Was Leon lucky to have a friend like him? From the way they were interacting back in the Gala, it wasn't exactly a good reunion. He ended up pushing him away, so sure he accepted that he was a morph, but as a person...ah. His brows were now furrowed at the thought, wondering what he should do with him next. Should he call him later and give a better apology? No, wait, not right now. Later, later. Focus on this first. He nodded as he listened to Toki's observations. Well, he supposed that the dizziness may be disconcerting for others, so he really needed to figure out if there was some way for him to eliminate the symptom entirely. He followed the pair as they decided on which warp to pick. It didn't really matter whichever way they went since it was just a test, and Arthur had the master key to turn any warp into an exit one. The gym leader made sure to follow closely behind him in case something would happen. "That's good. And that sounds like a good suggestion, but the ideal would be that they shouldn't feel any dizziness so that they will not be deterred." he replied. "And no, I do not think so, but it seems like a staple for gyms to challenge their trainers a bit before actually facing the leader. The warps are from Kanto, who seem to have a fondness for them in their resident Psychic gym."Eevee had decided to approach the Absol to get a better look. He was surprised that such a majestic-looking Pokemon did not appear to be a pure breed. He could just imagine that some of the big wigs would have them, but he had no clue of their species' reputation. "(Hey, where did you come from?)" he asked innocently.

Toki thought for a moment "...I would not know how to fix that...I'm sorry..." he sighed. He was no engineer or scientist, so issues like this weren't really something he was capable of solving. He awkwardly stood around, worried he might have offended Arthur in some way with what he said about his friend, though he decided not to push the subject any further. It wasn't his business, though he hoped everything was okay. He nodded at his explanation of the gym challenges "...challenges like this...can help sharpen the mind for future endeavors." he said. When the word 'psychic' came up, however, Toki clenched his teeth and began to run a hand through his hair "...p-psychic..." he groaned. He shook his head and took a deep breath "...sorry...bad...experiences."He stepped further down the current room and looked for the next ways forward. When he came across what looked like the next set of panels, he paused for a little bit of a break from a headache. Not from the teleporters, but the idea of psychics triggered a pain response to him "...nothing to do with the teleporters. Just thinking..." he said since he didn't want Arthur to blame the state of the devices. "I haven't...had much of a chance...to help others. The opportunity is nice..." he said. It truly was something to be able to do this of his own accord. There was still the question of what he was going to do after the test was over "...do you know somewhere cheap to stay...? Haven't...slept in a bed for some time." he said. All of a sudden he looked flustered and bowed his head "...not the time...sorry."Lota listened in on the conversations before he was approached by the Eevee who asked him where he came from. It was such a sudden question so it caught the Absol off-guard. Still, he decided to answer the best he could ("It's not really easy to explain. Where I'm from...well, Toki isn't exactly my original trainer, though he is not to blame for what happened. There are bad humans out there that hurt him, me, and who I originally belonged to. Toki is free now, but I keep watch to make sure he is okay. He may not be who caught me, but he is still an excellent trainer with the potential for something special. I want to help guide him through his struggles.")Arthur Wright

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "It's alright. That's on me and the engineers to figure out." he answered with a small smile. Arthur was happy to know that at least this morph was considerate. Sharp, too, nodding in agreement at his observation on what the gym puzzles are meant to do. He was surprised however that the word "psychic" turned out to be a word not taken kindly by his guest. Well, good thing he usually kept his ability a secret, but he would make sure to avoid saying that in the future while he was around. "No, I should be the one apologizing, I didn't know..." he wasn't sure what else to say though--what made this morph so afraid of them? He followed Toki along the hallway, watching him carefully in case something were to happen. He wasn't quite sure what to do if all of a sudden this tall man was going to faint on him. Arthur did not have the power to carry him to the infirmary. He listened silently, unsure of how to respond at first. From the way he made it sound, it looked like he came from a rough place. He thought Toki's request over, wondering what were the nearest establishments that were under his father's care, or something he could afford from his own savings. He did earn a salary, technically, from his work as a gym leader, and thank Arceus his father was sensible enough to give him a bank account. He might've thought that with his greediness everything would have been geared towards the company, but his father had his generous moments he supposed, and did not want to see his eldest son in complete dependence of him. "I think I can pay for a month's rent to get you back on your feet, though I would need to do some research." he knew that there were relatively cheap studios at the further edges of the city. No way would his parents allow for him to stay in the tower, so that was probably the next best thing. "And it's alright. One needs to ask for help in order to receive it, yes? We can discuss further details after we've finished the testing."With Eevee's--and Woobat's as well, since she was hovering near her teammate--case, the pair listened closely to the Absol's tale. "(Bad humans?)" the small bat let out a hum in deep thought. There were lots of bad humans, as much as good humans she'd like to think, though she wish it were otherwise. "(I remember something about a team of people who chase after morphs like your trainer.)" she mused. Eevee did not really know what she was talking about. "(That's really nice of you, though it's sad what happened to you guys.)" he whined, "(Wish you could stay here with us, but I don't think Master would allow of it.)"

Toki was at least glad he wasn't expected to come up with every solution to the current puzzle dilemma. He hoped they would be able to figure something out with what they were currently able to discover. After he took a few deep breaths, Toki calmed himself down. "It's...okay. You didn't know." he said. His fear of psychics, at least to him, was justified. While he wouldn't go as far as to condemn every single psychic, he definitely wouldn't trust any at first. Despite how uncomfortable he looked previously, Toki looked well enough to continue. "...I don't want to worry you. It's...not something I...like to think about."
He was somewhat taken aback by his offer to pay for a month's rent somewhere and didn't quite know how to respond "...You would do that? I don't understand...but if you would....I will not object..." he said. He looked a little calmer and happier that the suggestion was even made. Maybe they could arrange for something in Pavo Town. That wasn't too far away and it might be cheaper to live in a smaller town than in the city. "...if there's anything after this...you need help with, then I hope you can rely on me." he said. He felt like he could be friends with Arthur. "So how many more rooms are there...?" he asked as he stepped towards another set of warp pads. There couldn't have been too many left, so he pondered which one he should take next. Lota looked content at the offer ("I appreciate that you have even offered, though my new place is with Toki. But...yes, there is a group of bad humans out there...and that very same group is the one you mentioned. I doubt that they have given up looking for him, but no matter what comes after him, I will be there to protect him. And just maybe, he will soon have new friends to help him as well.
