Forrest's app Ember the Cyndaquil - Level 5 Moves: Tackle, Leer, Reversal Held items: N/A
When Forrest told his parents he was ready to become independent and go on a journey with Ember, their first question was "Where are you going first?". At this, Forrest smirked and shrugged, mischief glinting in his eyes. They sat him down and had a talk--which he barely listened to--about planning ahead and how important it would be for budgeting and ensuring he got to train stations and airports on time. He waved their concerns away. He'd be fine. Few adults really knew what they were doing, and Forrest refused to throw away his newfound freedom by setting up schedules and deciding on things ahead of time. What a boring way to live, he thought. Who would subject themselves to that much structure? Though he'd never admit it, the conversation did spark a few ideas in his mind, and after his parents went to bed, he hopped on his laptop and searched for the most interesting goings-on in Stellara. He found the Gala and set his sights on it. What better way to start his journey than by going to a massive festival in the city? His parents weren't pleased to learn that their son's first stop was a city known for gambling and a thriving nightlife scene, but what could they do? The moment they spoke up, Forrest was out the door, a printed train ticket in hand. Upon arriving, Forrest checked into a hotel, dropped his backpack off, released Ember, and headed straight for the Gala. "This is far bigger than I expected. We're going to meet so many people here, you know? Maybe we'll even have our first battle or catch our first new companion," Forrest said, his hands trembling. For the first time in years, he felt the jittery excitement that came with the idea of opportunity, and he couldn't wait to direct his energy into something specific. Ember trembled too, but for far different reasons: The tiny Cyndaquil scaled his trainer's back the moment they stepped into the festival, terrified of getting kicked around and separated from Forrest. He hung on to the young man's shoulder for dear life, shoving his face into the collar of Forrest's white T-shirt. "(I'm not a fan)," Ember said. "You're going to have to break out of your shell some time, little guy," Forrest said. Forrest stood among a crowd of people, looking for the most interesting thing in the area. A large sign indicated a spot for new trainers to meet, and he took off, his long legs carrying him there with ease. "And now we look for someone to talk to," he said.

The second she'd discovered that there was a festival in Vega City, a child-like excitement was born within Elise. She's never been to a proper festival, the closest thing being the one's she's performed at, so all she wanted to do with her newfound freedom was explore everything that the Gala had to offer. With her arms tight around Coppelia, she practically prances towards any and every stall there is, eyes sparkling with excitement at the sight of simple trinkets and carnivals snacks.
After a little while, she got bored of wandering around eating food and trying to win prizes, so with the help of a few other festival goers and a map she decided to search for something that might've involved other people. After reading over a pamphlet for the exact location of the one thing she'd been repeatedly suggested, she decided to head towards a place where new trainers went to meet each other.
"(We're gonna meet new people!)" The small booklet sat in the arms of her Happiny, whose little chirps exuded an air of excitement. "(I'm so excited! We've been here for ages now and you haven't made a conversation with anyone! This is super super duper!)"
Trying to ignore the insulted feeling she got in the pit of her stomach at the words, knowing that Coppelia didn't mean to be rude with what she was saying, she finally enters the area with anxious paces. She could count more than a dozen people, all happily chattering about something, their words all melding together into simple white noise. Although the situation was brand new, and she really didn't understand much of the jargon, she couldn't help but find herself swept up by the incredible atmosphere.
Bouncing on her heels, she approaches the first person she sees– someone else who seems to have just arrived.
"What type of Pokémon is that?" She asks a tall and lanky young man, who admittedly intimidates her a little with how much he towers over her. Yet she tries to focus on the cute little bundle yellow and blue in his arms. "I've never seen one like it."

Despite his outgoing nature, the longer Forrest stood around searching for someone to talk to, the more intimidated he felt by the immense number of people in the area, and the more difficult he found it to do that thing where he just approached the nearest stranger and initiated conversation. Was it the new environment, or was his adventure already changing him a bit?
The eighteen-year-old shook the thoughts away at the sound of a voice right next to him. He turned to find a short girl beside him, asking about his partner Pokemon. "Oh, this is Ember, my Cyndaquil," Forrest said. "He has a head, he's just a bit shy."
Forrest grasped Ember and tried to pull him out of his shirt. The tiny Pokemon squeaked and burrowed its hind claws into his shoulder. Forrest flinched and released his grip on the Cyndaquil, giving up. "He doesn't want to say hello, it seems. I'm sorry. Anyway, Cyndaquil is a Pokemon from the Johto region. I hear they're commonly given out as starters to new trainers, but I found Ember hurt in the wild one day. I took him to a Pokemon center and he became mine. He either doesn't remember or doesn't want to talk about his life before meeting me, so I can't tell you much other than that," he said, slipping his hands into his pockets. A cheerful grin spread across his face.
"Oh, I'm Forrest, by the way. I guess I have more to say about my Pokemon than myself, huh? What's your name?" He looked the girl over: While short--so much so that his neck ached at the thought of standing while conversing with her for too long--she couldn't have been more than a year younger than him. She had soft facial features, sure, but her body? Well, she had the hips of a woman, that was for sure--not that he was looking for very long. It just wasn't easy to miss in a once-over. He scratched his neck and his gaze flicked back up to her face in an instant.

She can't help but chuckle a little at the skittish way the Pokémon tried to avoid conversation, burrowing itself in the boy's shirt. The timid little display was cute, like a toddler clinging to it's mother on the first day of kindergarten. She can't imagine a cute thing like this being capable of battle, yet she new from her time in Pokémon Center that even the sweetest looking of Pokémon were plenty dangerous on their own.
"I'm sure he's a sweetheart," Elise smiles sweetly, trying to lull the Cyndaquil into knowing she's not going to hurt it.
From the story that the trainer– Forrest, as he's now told her–, she can't help but wonder if humans might've done something to the poor dear, but it wasn't her place to pry. Instead, she soaks in the information he tells her about the species being handed out as starters in Johto, and gives a small nod to show she was paying attention.
"Talking lots about him is good. It means you're friends." Briefly turning her gaze up to the taller boy, taking note of the longish hair and the distinctive eye colour, she loosely gestures to the Happiny in her arms and to herself. "This is Coppelia. She's.. friendly, to say the least."
As if on cue, the pink ball chirps out a happy hello, waving it's arm at the other duo.
"..She's a little young, so this journey's less to become the strongest and greatest trainer and more to.. grow up." She leaves out how she did one of the most childish things one could ever do in order to leave on an adventure, both because of her pride and because she wants to make a good impression on what could potentially be her first friends in this region.
Almost entirely out of habit, she crosses one leg behind the other, curtseying with her introduction. "I'm Elise."

Forrest broke into a bigger smile when the girl commented about Ember. The little Cyndaquil, though not without flaws, hardly had a mean bone in him. Forrest wondered if his Pokemon was too naive to have really "learned" meanness, so to speak, but the mystery that surrounded Ember's injury poked holes in his theory.
For the first time, Forrest noticed the little round, pink Pokemon nestled in the young woman's arms. He blinked: How had he not noticed the brightly-colored creature right in front of him? He felt guilty for a moment, but the baby Chansey--he couldn't recall the specie's name--chirped a greeting and waved an arm at him and his guilt melted away, replaced by adoration. He knew of Chansey and its evolution line from his time with Ember at a Pokemon Center, but his pool of knowledge regarding them was rather dry. That day wasn't exactly a pleasant one, and he didn't have the focus to ask Nurse Joy to educate him on her helpers.
"Hi, Coppelia," he said, waving back. Forrest looked back up at the other trainer, who spoke of her Pokemon being young and her journey revolving around growing up. Elise gave her name and did a curtsy that, quite frankly, confused Forrest, but he rolled with it. "A coming-of-age story, huh? I think it's great that you're taking her out to see the world. I dunno if you're from Stellara, but it's a beautiful region with a lot of variety. There's a place for everyone here. How long has it been since Coppelia hatched?"
For the first time since they stepped foot in the Gala, Ember poked his head out from Forrest's shirt. He grasped the collar of the shirt, read to shove his head back under if anything went awry. He leaned forward and sniffed at Elise and her Pokemon a bit, then turned toward Forrest, who patted his head.
An ounce of courage filled the Cyndaquil and he opened his mouth and said, "(Hi. How are you?)"

He asks a good question, one that makes her purse her lips in thought. She wasn't the one who hatched Coppelia, and the only real reason why the little Pokémon had bonded to her so quickly was because of it's easygoing nature. Turning her gaze down to the head of the round pink ball, she tries to remember the exact wording on the letter she had received before leaving on her journey.
"..Something like.. five, six months?" Elise shrugs her shoulders slightly. "She was given to me by the Nurse Joy at the Center where I lived, so I don't know the exacts."
She gives him a smile back, not quite as radiantly bright as Forrest's own, but definitely cheerful in it's own right. It felt comforting to hear someone else say that the Stellara Region was a place for everyone. She had, admittedly, been nervous about that– considering how she had purposely chosen this region because of it being notoriously difficult. She believed her family wouldn't think of her going somewhere so unknown and foreign, but that had only made her want to try it out more.
"I'm hoping this will be a good experience for her.. and myself." A small laugh leaves her lips, and she uses one of her hands to brush her bangs slightly. "To be honest, I was a little nervous about Stellara, but hearing you say that eases my thoughts."
It takes a moment for Coppelia to register the fact the Cyndaquil initiated the conversation, but once it does, the excited chirping becomes even bouncier, her stubby arms waving in greeting.
"(Wooah! You spoke to me! Nice to meet you!)"

Forrest's eyebrows rose considerably when Elise estimated Coppelia's age. "Five or six months old? Wow, then you really have a long journey ahead of you. I gotta say, I don't think Pokecenters have a habit of giving away Pokemon, especially when they'll eventually evolve into a Chansey. You must have a big heart for a Nurse Joy to give you such a rare Pokemon--a baby one, no less," he said.
Elise mentioned the Stellara region being difficult and he chuckled. "Difficult? Is that what they say? I mean, I guess to some people our gyms and Elite Four could be viewed as challenging, but if you've got a brain, it shouldn't be much of a problem. The only thing you really have to watch out for here is, uhm, well," he paused for a moment, lowering his voice to a whisper, then said, "Some group called Team Crux has been whispered about recently. Try to avoid that subject unless you like to draw negative attention to yourself. No one knows much about them, but they're supposedly doing terrible things. Keep yourself safe."
Forrest cleared his throat, then spoke again at a normal volume, "Anyway, yeah, Stellara's got a lot to it. Mountains, desert, a jungle-y island off the coast. Where are you from, anyway?"
The Happiny's sudden movement made Ember flinch, but he calmed down at the chipper sound of her voice. "(Nice to meet you too. Uhm, what kind of moves do you have in battle?)" Ember asked. What was he supposed to say to a new Pokemon? Did he ask a decent question?

Elise flushes a little at his words– and instinctively she turns her head away, frowning. She's not used to compliments directed at her as a person, rather than what she's capable of doing. Part of her finds it almost unnatural, compliments like that aren't something she deserves; she doesn't have a big heart at all, she's mean and rude and kind of an idiot.
And the only thing she can do in response is huff, "Not really.. we were just.. acquaintances, so she gave it to me."
Slowly, his words on this mysterious group sunk in, and it really sent chills down her spine. They had dealt with a gang in her home region as well, she remembered how the teachers told them all to walk in pairs or get picked up from the dance studio during those times. Nodding her head unsurely, she makes a note of their name and that they're apparently dangerous, and took a deep breath.
"I'll avoid it if I can. Thank you, Forrest." A small smile crosses her face, almost relieved at the change of subject. "I'm from Sinnoh. It's pretty chilly there, so I'm not sure how I'll handle a jungle or a desert.."
She laughs, just as Coppelia tilts her head in thought.
"(Battle? I've never done one of those before!)" There's a curiosity in the Happiny's tone as she thinks for a moment, before chirping out another response. "(Oh! I can do this, though!)"
The moment she stops chattering to the Cyndaquil, she squeezes her round eyes shut and holds her breath, catching her trainer's attention as an aura the colour of sea foam radiates from the pink Pokémon. The waves coming off chime like a soft bell, and not long after, the glow stops.

Forrest caught Elise's huff, but he didn't exactly understand it. "What do you mean, acquaintances? Are you really trying to tell me that a Nurse Joy gave you a Pokemon when you were basically strangers to each other? That's total bull. Their job is to heal and protect Pokemon, and I can't imagine any of them being dumb enough to give such a rare and special Pokemon to an acquaintance. You had to have been someone special to her, someone she saw a lot of potential in, for her to have trusted you to care for that baby Chansey," he said, crossing his arms. His grin transformed into a little smirk.
Ember cocked his head to the side when the other Pokemon didn't seem to understand what a battle was. He recalled her trainer saying she was only a few months old, but he couldn't imagine any Pokemon having never heard of battling. He placed a paw on his mouth, then said, "(A battle is a fight between two Pokemon. You both use your powers to win. It's fun.)"
Ember watched Coppelia create a little glow, and he gasped. "(Amazing! I wish I could do something like that. I'm too weak to have any fire powers yet. What does that do?)"

Elise's eyebrows furrow. He's right after all, and even she can see it. 'Acquaintances' was the wrong word to use, because it wasn't really right. Nurse Joy had helped her through a rough patch where she had no clue on what to do, and they were fairly close. But she was afraid of using 'friend', because what if she's the only one who thought that way? She's never really had a real friend before, so after a few years it became easier to distance herself.
"Well.. we were a little.. closer than acquaintances, I guess.." A slight pout, her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment at admitting it out loud.
Coppelia's head returns to it's slightly tilted placement, listening closely to the other Pokémon explain the concept of battling with a mild curiosity. She had to admit, it sounded fun, to be able to use her powers, but at the same time, it kind of sounded scary. She doesn't really think fighting is a good thing.
"(I guess it sounds fun! Isn't it bad to fight, though?)" She isn't really sure.
But she listens to Ember's little surprised gasp, and feels a swell of pride. "(It makes everyone feel better!)"
