With a heart-shaped face, a button nose, and cheeks still plump with baby fat, it's easy to think of Elise as being younger than she is. It doesn't help that her lips are soft and rosy pink, only adding to the softness of her features, and practically destroying any chance that her usual scowl and grumpy glare could be seen as intimidating.
The only thing that really shows off her true age is her body, despite it's relatively small and slender look. A pear body type, with shapely legs and hips built on years of travelling and dancing. Because of her skin's sensitivity and colour, she tends to cover up quite a bit, though it doesn't stop her from wearing frills and skirts– usually in shades of pink, white or cream.
PERSONALITY
Underneath gentle features is an intense personality, more burning than fire itself, and even harder to escape from.
Although she's volatile and quick to anger, she's hardly an awful person; only a childish and somewhat sensitive one.
The very definition of hardworking, she hides underneath the mask of a child prodigy– a word she's heard constantly throughout her life and hates to hear. It makes her feel as though all her training and the work she's put into getting as far as she has is nothing when compared to the 'raw talent' that she possesses, and thus pushes her farther into training to prove that idea wrong. Her main goal is to improve herself, to become better without the need for talent.
She's stubborn like you wouldn't believe, as though she has a personal vendetta against the very concept of giving up. This, combined with her aggressive nature, is the perfect brew to create a competitive spirit, one that refuses to lose no matter what, and ended up birthing one of her more noticeable defensive mechanisms.
Lose reveals how bitter she really is inside, and hidden under layers of confidence and arrogance is a sensitive, fragile, and insecure girl. She built up a mask to keep people around her guessing, a bravado of falsehoods to scare people away. This mask tends to show itself in social situations, where her awkward side tends to cause to use her special brand of brutal honesty, using harsh and blunt words to keep herself safe from other people.
So long as she's not aggravated, she's a polite and warm-hearted girl, perhaps even gentle. Underneath the cold and harsh layers she's built up, she's truly a girl who loves to help others; she wants to eventually grow to love ballet enough once more that she can teach younger girls, and she wants to help trainers when they're too far from a proper Pokémon Center to heal.
BACKGROUND
Born the youngest of two girls in a family of performers, Elise's potential as a ballet dancer was seen the second she started her first class. She moved with delicacy and grace, and listened intently to every word the teacher said, hungrily devouring the information and using it to better the raw talent that she had.
She had the makings of a pro, and teachers loved her for it. They focused much of their attention onto her, offering extra classes to better improve her skills and raise her level even higher than it already was when compared to the other girls her age, and her parents loved it. They gladly signed her up for anything the teachers suggested, whether it was something as simple as an extra class a week to better her technique or something bigger and more fantastic, like competitions.
This clear favouritism caused the girls to isolate her, and soon, Elise found herself realising that she was alone. She tried and tried her best to make friends in the classes she was in, but every time she did, she was pushed away or ignored. The message they were sending her was clear– why should we have to associate with the oh so much better than us prodigy?
She had the choice of telling the teachers that she had trouble making friends, but even at a young age, she considered that swallowing her pride and giving in. So instead, she decided to play the role they had created for her. The role of the genius girl who clearly thought herself better than anyone else, and soon, that role began to mesh and become part of her– like a way of keeping people away.
She focused on her dancing, and ignored practically anything else. She focused on gaining the highest placements in competition rankings, because how else was she supposed to draw the attention of people like her parents, who had long grown bored with her once her older sister's debut as an idol. She wanted them to look at her, to notice her, to have pride in her.
And at some point, between the constant practicing and competitions and desperation for attention, she stopped enjoying dancing.
It wasn't fun for her anymore. It had become a habit, like humming a tune under her breath, and even simpler than breathing.
Elise found herself constantly wandering around, skipping her dance classes and avoiding her family like the plague, choosing to hang around the Pokémon Center where no one knew her and nobody could tell her family that she was choosing to give up on such a large part of her (their) life. She confided in Nurse Joy, whose kind smile and soft voice made it easy for someone with such a rough personality like Elise to soften up and tell the truth.
And after weeks and weeks of chatting and helping around the Center; doing little odd jobs that even someone like her, without any skills in fields other than dance, could do, Nurse Joy finally gave her an opinion. That she should try something new, something she had no experience with in the past. While not giving any hints to what she meant, the nurse simply handed her a box and a letter, and told her to open it at home and make the decision all on her own.
That night, the nerves of curiosity burnt at her, and she opened it to discover a Pokéball. Confused, she opened the letter, to discover that Nurse Joy believed she should try going on a journey of sorts, to become more independent as a person, to discover who she really is, without the decisions of her family and teachers getting in her way.
It was an alluring thought, though it was one she couldn't believe.
After all, she had never been anywhere on her own before, let alone even considered going on a journey all on her own.
Yet it ate away at her, giving her something she genuinely wanted to try.
For a few weeks, her Happiny was only allowed out of it's Pokeball in her room, or places far enough from the area she and her family lived in, a higher class area that clearly thought itself better than lowly trainers. And she used that time to read as much she could about training, on raising a baby Pokemon, and more importantly, on what she needed for travelling, and where she could go.
There was plenty of options, after all, the world is wide and full of places she could go.
She soaked up as much information as she could, buying books and a bag for travelling, grabbing basic supplies with what little pocket money she had left from the funds she was supposed to use for ballet, and she headed for the Pokemon Center one last time to hear the thoughts of other trainers.
Each and every one seemed to bring up the Stellara Region, famous for it's difficult Pokemon League.
It seemed like the perfect place. There was no way her parents would think of her going to a place known for being difficult, especially when they didn't know she had a Pokemon and the guts to give such a place a try.
Mind made on a location, and set to travel, she spent the last of her funds buying a ticket to Stellara.
And in the night, she left her home, Happiny by her side and letter in hand.
Now in Stellara, she spends her time mostly travelling around and learning new things– searching for a new dream to aim for.
STARTER
NAME — Coppelia
LEVEL — 5
SPECIES — Happiny
TYPE — Normal
EGG GROUP — Undiscovered
ABILITY — Natural Cure
HELD ITEM — None
GENDER — Female
HEIGHT — 50cm / 19 inches
WEIGHT — 20kg / 44lb
MOVE LIST — Pound / Charm / Copycat / Heal Bell (Egg Move)
PERSONALITY — Coppelia's personality meshes quite well with her trainer's, being bright, bold and rather friendly. She has the same charm that most baby Pokémon have, drawing people in and combined with how easygoing she is, she tends to be the better conversationalist of the two, despite the fact that most humans can't understand a word she babbles. Despite this, she's still only young, and often throws temper tantrums and needs to sleep often. She's easily influenced by the kind words that Elise spouts, and tends to find herself influenced by them, trying harder than before when she's told how good she's doing. Overall, this Happiny's overwhelmingly sweet personality may have been why she was chosen to be given to Elise.
PLAYED BY HACHIMITSU.
