The hunt calls to me. Or something like that.
Well, this one was at least a bug.
The edge of Scyther's blades was almost audible to the boy as the mantis pokemon crouched low, narrowing her eyes dangerously as her sight centered onto a tiny Surskit playing in a pond, the pokemon moving about the water's surface swiftly.
Doug wasn't too sure of just what exactly the tiny pokemon was doing, but its day was about to get a whole lot worse.
Or, that's what he had thought anyways.
The moment Scyther launched herself on the Attack, tearing through the bushes and towards the pond with ninja like agility, the Surskit almost casually swung out of the way, the movement so quick Doug nearly missed it.
Scyther's blade found no prey, her attack going wide and the surprise completely unbalancing her. A sound splash followed, and shortly after, a boy's laughter as well as a tiny Surkit's.
Not a second later, Scyther tore out of the water's surface angrily, her glare settling not on the Surskit, but on Douglas. The boy noticed, but did not care enough to stop laughing, giving the Scyther a grin.
"Don't look at me like that! It was funny, what did you expect I would do, swallow it up?" Chortled out the boy, the Scyther growling under her breath at the his flippant response, face flushed. The fact that the Surskit was chortling along with the boy was not making it any better.
Doug could already tell how it would all go from the way Scyther narrowed her eyes, her wing span opening wide and flicking away droplets of water.
Surskit simply tilted her head-body to the side in response, before offering an interested chirp, bounding in place at what appeared to be a challenge... to a game of tag! How lucky for her, she had been growing bored, just doing her usual routine of swimming around the pond.
She didn't know why the Scyther and the boy were interested in playing with her, but hey, she wouldn't reject the offer to do something out of the norm.
She held out a leg and made a playful 'come hither' motion, winking at the Scyther.
Scyther's response was less than friendly, though Surskit did not seem to notice.
The next half hour saw Scyther try and fail to chase the tiny Surskit throughout the entire pond, which as it turned out, was a much greater task than one could have anticipated.
The Surskit had maneuverability in the water that nothing bound by the physics of Aerodynamics could match, as Scyther found out soon. Maybe if she had been able to find some traction on ground... but unfortunately, the pond was deeper than it looked, so she could only chase the tiny pokemon by flying.
While the Mantis was getting more and more frustrated, the Surskit was, by contrast, having a damn blast, not having even figured out that the Scyther was actually trying to hurt it due to the rather incompetent performance it had shown so far.
It freely and innocently 'taunted', so to speak, the Scyther, in what it thought was all good fun.
Naturally, Scyther was not feeling anywhere near the same. Unfortunately, very soon, it found itself tired; flying was hard when you were weighed down by the water from all the falling into the pond, and after nearly an hour of continuous, top speed, sharp turning flight, she was bushed.
The same, however, applied to the tiny Surskit, who had a hard time floating on the water now, having crawled to the edge of the pond to rest tiredly. After nearly an hour of chasing it around, the mantis couldn't really count this as a victory, reaching tiredly to bonk it over the head before flopping face forward into the grass, groaning.
With a hum, Doug walked up to the two pokemon with an empty Net ball in hand, crouching in front of the Surskit before gently booping the pokemon with the Net Ball, capturing it easily.
Turning to face Scyther, he grinned. "Hey. Nice job; didn't even have to eviscerate her either."
Scyther gave him a dirty look, growling in response. The boy responded with an appropriate shit eating grin.
"Let's meet our new friend, shall we?" He said, juggling the single Net ball in his hand. His Scyther grunted, refusing to move from where she laid. If he wanted to meet that irritatingly chirpy ball of energy, he could do it
without her.
Reaching into his bag, Doug produced a container, before opening the lid. The smell that wafted outside prompted Scyther's eyes to snap open immediately, the Mantis jumping to her feet and turning to face him snappily.
The boy took his turn to stare at her flatly.
"You are all just a bunch of hungry brats." He said as he threw the Net Ball out, releasing the Surskit out.
The Surskit had a hard time staying on its feet the moment it was released. The 10 seconds of rest it had gotten within the Net Ball were clearly not enough.
However, when the boy lowered the container down closer to it, it perked up
noticeably. He had been counting on that.
"Hey there, little gal." He said, "I'm Doug. That's Scyther. I dunno if you've realized this, but you are part of my team now." He informed the tiny pokemon, who managed to tear her gaze away from the meal to cock her head in slight confusion.
"Well, Scyther won." He paused. "Sort of." An unhappy snort followed immediately after, the mantis pokemon sneering at the boy. "You can hardly call that a victory, shush." He said, before serving some of the food inside the container into another and holding it out to the Scyther.
Surskit was not too happy either; lose?! How did she lose?! She had swam circles around the Mantis! She had totally won!
Doug could only smirk at the tiny Surskit clear protest. "Sorry, but that bonk she gave you at the end?" He leaned in close. "She won then. The fight's not over just cause you are tired, ya know." He said, winking. The Surskit would have pursed her lips at that if she had any, cocking her head to the side.
Fight? What fight?
Doug shrugging his shoulder, misunderstanding the Surskit's confusion at the term as unwillingness to accept her loss. "Hey, the rules are the rules. If ya wanna win next time, you'll have to train harder."
The Surskit's brows knitted in confusion; now there were rules involved. Fights didn't have rules, she knew that. Was he talking about a game
now? She didn't usually
train for games, and teams seemed a bit too much, but...
She glanced at the food thoughtfully. It smelled so
good, she had never smelled anything like that before. And the Scyther, which had been so angry looking and intense during the game before looked extremely content as she chowed down unto it...
Surskit held out one of her legs towards the container, tilting her head to the side as if in question.
Doug stared for a moment.
"Yeah, that's for you. Everyone on the team gets food, obvs. If you do your best, I'll do my best as the cook, too." He was mostly just guessing, but he liked to think he had an acceptable grasp of Bug types Body language.
Surskit took in his words for a moment, before brightening noticeably, quite literally jumping into the container to chow down.
"Woah there, that's not gonna last if you eat so fast!" Said the boy, though he did nothing to stop her from stuffing her face.
He could see she was a voracious one...
"Well. Guess I better start buying those ingredients in bulk." He muttered, scratching at the back of his head. A grin tugged at his lips, however. "Oh well; glad to have you on board, Surskit."

Gender female
Ability Swift Swim
MoveSet
- Bubble
- Quick Attack
- Sweet Scent
- Lunge
Personality
Of a naive, cheery disposition. It's young and doesn't seem to mind tough situations, always plowing forward with a smile on her face and encouraging words tumbling out of her maw. It is easily hurt by harsh words and tends to wither under insults and harsh treatment however, so it's best to raise it with a gentle hand, praise and encouragement.
As it is naive, it is easily tricked and will believe nearly everything Doug and the rest of the team tells her, leading to its 'amicable' relationship with Beedrill, who is happy to teach her all there is to know about the world... no matter how 'true' or not the facts may be.
Has a massive appetite relative to its size and will do just about anything for a good treat. Loves spicy food, though it will happily eat whatever Doug puts on her plate.
The one with the most friends.
