Remnants of the Past
The stern looking young-man sat under the shade of a tree, leaning back against its sturdy bark with his eyes closed and his palms pillowing the back of his head. Soft breaths leaving his lips, his chest rythmically rising up and down as he took a nap to rest for a while after walking for so long while trying to avoid angering most of the Pokemons that inhabited this area.
Though there was someone absent in all of this.
From way up high, straddling the corners of the stone pillar was a Litten named Cinder, the Fire Cat Pokemon looking around curiously as he observed his surroundings from way up high. He looked down at his trainer from where he rested and rolled his eyes, for someone as physically fit as they could be without being a Martial Arts junkie, his Trainer sure did love to rest when he could.
Then again, it was pot calling the kettle black in this scenario, considering he also liked to dozz off in a warm patch of sunlight whenever the chance struck his fancy. He sat down, perched on the edge of the beam and acted as a silent guardian from above, watching in the case a stray Pokemon or Trainer decided to appear while his partner was asleep. [nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]Going forward, Sol stepped into the past. The young trainer had gone north, taking to a more ancient, primal part of Stellara in his quest. Upon reaching the north, the young man had finally found his way to Heleos Ruins, the font of all ancient Stellaran knowledge and the overgrown home of many a Pokemon and intrepid adventurer like himself. [break][break]
Sol walked down the ruined pathways, his hand occasionally reaching out to brush against age-old stone or the ruins, sharp eyes peeking through the shaded vegetation for any sign of Pokemon- or Trainers- with which to challenge himself. Fae the Eevee padded dutifully behind him, her own eyes wandering from the path occasionally as they too poured over the history. The teenager walked without aim, the sound of his sharp, black boots clicking as he walked; a modern sound that was eerily out of harmony with the dead silence of ages gone by. [break][break]
Not that Sol cared. He marched on with the single mindedness of the young, not giving much of a second thought to the ghosts and shades that had once walked the same stony path he now did. Instead, Sol sought the here and now. Ruins, he thought, were ripe for adventure. Only nerds spared any thought to the past.[break][break]
With a sigh of disappointment, Sol entered a final chamber and he paused as a tree revealed itself suddenly as he entered. Ancient and foreboding, he regarded it for a moment. Not for any particular appreciation of its majesty, but for the very fact it was a landmark in the ruins. And those often attracted attention. [break][break]
True to his thought, his eyes fell on a body as they returned to the base of the tree and -for a second- his heart skipped a beat. A body? What had he discovered, some unfinished grave? Ice took him, but not Fae; the little Eevee approached the body without fear and suddenly, Sol snapped back to reality and did the same. As he approached- if he got close enough-, Sol would attempt to take the toe of his boot and put it into the man's ribcage with a short, rousing poke.[break][break]
"You alive?" He would ask as he approached, unaware of the fiery little guardian above.

Remnants of the Past
The Fire Cat Pokemon spotted the young man and his Pokemon more or less immediately when they appeared in his vision as they rounded a corner. His hackle rose slightly, orange light filling his mouth as he prepared to let loose a barrage of Ember pellets at any second should they prove to be dangerous towards his Trainer.
Speaking of said Trainer, Vincent grunted in discomfort as something poked him solidly on his side. He frowned, the expression making his face look more stern if that was possible as he blearily opened his eyes and glared upward at his assailant with narrowed eyes. "No, I'm dead." Vincent said with an acidic tone from someone being woken up against their will but dutifully leaned forward and up now that his nap was disturbed. "Yes, I'm alive. I was just taking a nap." He rose a brow at the Trainer and his Pokemon. "The name's Vincent. Vincent Valentine."
He pointed upwards towards where he felt was Cinder thanks to the prickly feeling behind his neck telling him that someone was watching him. "And that's Cinder." At that point the two would likely notice the Litten and how it seemed in a protective stance a few moments ago before he relaxed minutely now that his human was awake and ready to defend himself if need be. "Don't mind him, he's a bit overprotective sometimes."
Cinder let out a huff of annoyance and flicked his ear at Vincent. (Screw you, Vincent. Last time I worry about your sorry ass the next time you fall asleep.) It was said without any heat, easily seen as banter the two did with each other by ease of practice at this point. TAGS: Sol Chance OOC NOTES

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]Sol took a cautious step back as the man rose from his slumber, like a disturbed giant. Fae the Eevee, however, was not fazed by the sudden rousing of the man, and stayed sat on her hind legs and regarding the duo with shallow curiosity.[break][break]
"Vincent, huh?" asked Sol Chance, muttering almost to himself. His eyes slid upward to the small cat-like Pokemon providing over-watch for its master and he regarded it with curiosity. A fire type, he deduced based on the orange glow of fire that had filled its mouth. But the exact species escaped him. Silently and brusquely, Sol pulled the Pokedex from his jacket pocket and pointed it right at the fiery kitten with businesslike purpose. And moments later, the dutiful electronic encyclopedia spat out a dutiful answer to his: Litten, the Fire Cat Pokemon. Common to the Alola Region, he noted with a raised eyebrow.[break][break]
How exotic.[break][break]
Sol Chance jerked a thumb towards his own chest. "Well," he said, "I'm Sol Chance. And this is my partner Fae. And don't worry, that Litten of yours can relax. We're just exploring."[break][break]
Sol Chance smirked.[break][break]
"Not that we couldn't handle it anyways if we did mean you harm." He said, and Fae barked softly in agreement.[break][break]
Sol shrugged and looked down at the man with some strange interest. "So," he continued, "odd place for a nap. You live here or somethin'?"[break][break]

Remnants of the Past
Vincent merely nodded at the boy, a smirk crossed his features. "Nice to make your acquaintances, Sol." He said politely, but then his face changed expression to a challenging one at the male's admission. "Oh? Is that a challenge? Perhaps you'd like to prove that in a Pokemon Battle?" Sensing that something might go down soon, the Litten stood up from his perching position, stretching to get the kinks out of his body before nimbly jumping down and landing on all fours, approaching his trainer with leisure steps.
"I've been walking since the better part of dawn, exploring around this place to see if there was anything interesting around," He shrugged his shoulders. "So far, it's all just remnants of the past staring back at me." He rose an eyebrow at the boy. "So, what brings you here?" He looked around before looking back at Sol. "Trying to catch a Pokemon, perhaps?" He heard that this place was sometimes chock full of many different kinds of Pokemon, from Rock-Types to even the coveted Dragon-Types, these ruins seemed to have almost all sorts of Pokemon.
Disinterested with the conversation at hand, the Fire Cat Pokemon licked the back of his paw and proceeded to clean his head leisurely.

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]Sol Chance gave a wide, confident grin, white teeth beaming as Vincent offered a challenge. The possibility excited him. This was the kind of thing he traveled for: battles to prove his mettle. Though as Vincent rose and continued to speak, it became more obvious that the man was a wander trainer, much like himself and his newfound companion's mind was very much turned to Pokemon itself.[break][break]
"Maybe I was looking for a Pokemon," said Sol Chance, a bit of steel in his voice, "or maybe I was looking for a trainer or two to give a beatdown."[break][break]
Fae the Eevee sighed, a soft noise of exasperation. Though she was often as interested in battle as he, she greatly preferred that her partner not be so. . . childish about these sort of things. Still, she stood and readied herself in case it came to battle. There was no telling where this was headed, not yet. Though, she had a pretty good idea of where Sol would try and force the issue to go. . .[break][break]
"I'll battle you," he said, "I'm ready to go anytime, and so is Fae. A trainer and their Pokemon should be."[break][break]
Not to mention, he thought, if the worst came to pass, he still had certain tricks up his sleeve, like a second Pokemon for example. . .[break][break]
"So, you wanna go?"

Remnants of the Past
If possible, his smirk turned almost feral. "Well aren't you confident." He kept their playful verbal diatribe, no need to turn toxic all of the sudden, specially since they barely just met. Beside him, his Litten rolled his eyes heavenward at his partner and his would-be opponent's childish antics. (Arceus please give me patience, because if you give me strength...) He whispered under his breath, drawing a confused eyebrow raise from his human.
"Did you say something, Cinder?" Vincent asked, earning a shake of the head as the Fire Cat Pokemon dutifully walked forward. "Well, seems you're as excited to battle as I am." The deadpan look he received spoke volumes about how excited Cinder was, but there was no mistaking the predatory gleam in his eyes, nor how his tail flicked back and forth in anticipation of a battle.
Looking towards his opponent, he grinned. "We're ready when you are." He said, making sure to walk a bit away to give the two Pokemon space to maneuver and battle without worrying about their trainers being in the way. One way or another, Vincent didn't really care if he won or not, since his Pokemon will get some battle experience either way but it'd be nice to have a win under his belt regardless.

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]Sol Chance once again smirked, his own confidence bursting to the surface. Bringing his hands together, Sol cracked his knuckles, eager and anxious to get started with the coming battle. Fae the Eevee, on the other hand, simply shook her paws in sequence, as if to chase the dust from them or to stretch. Briefly, Sol's mind flashed against Fae's and there was a moment of communion. Each knew that the other was ready to fight, their hearts perfectly plain to one another.[break][break]
"Of course I'm confident," answered Sol Chance, oblivious to the change that had taken place on Vincent's face, "I like to think I'm pretty good!"[break][break]
And as Vincent backed away to give the Pokemon space, so did Sol, leaving Fae the Eevee alone in the midst of their appropriated arena- though only physically.[break][break]
The man offered to move on Sol's mark, an advantage that the young, arrogant trainer was going to take full advantage. "Hope you don't regret that, Vincent!" he chuckled, confidence coloring each laugh, "Because we're not going to make this easy!"[break][break]
The air seemed to stand still for just a moment, as if the ghosts settled in around them to watch their battle unfold. But that quiet only last a moment, as suddenly a thunderous shout erupted from Sol Chance.[break][break]
"Fae," he cried, "use Tackle!"[break][break]
And on command, the little pup Pokemon lurched forward in a mighty lunge, crossing the distance as fast little legs would carry, and attempted to throw itself into a full body tackle against the Litten.[break][break]

Remnants of the Past
The boy was confident, and that was a good attitude to have in a Pokemon Battle, and most of the time to be honest. As if you didn't have confidence in your abilities to at least succeed or put up a fight, who's gonna be then, some stranger you barely met, or some random Pokemon off in the wild? "Confidence is good," He agreed, but internally he couldn't help but think. 'So long as you don't let it get to your head.'
He didn't say any of that aloud, not because he was concerned for the boy, but because as a Trainer he could understand at some level what the boy was feeling. If someone came and told him how to approach or act in certain situations he'd be annoyed as all hell. Not to mention that he didn't have any sort of authority over the boy, he could do as he pleased and learn the hard way.
Cinder tensed his muscles as he watched the Eevee approach, his claws extending and gripping the earth firmly, creating small gouges on the ground as he looked ready to pounce. "Let's answer fire with fire, Cinder!" Vincent called out, pointed an outstretched palm at the running Eevee. "Wait until he gets close and then use Scratch!" The Fire Cat Pokemon heard the order and waited until the last moment before he pounced, his claws glowing with energy as he aimed to counter that Tackle with Scratch, only to get thrown back in surprise as that Tackle seemed to have packed more strength than what was normal for a simple attack like that.
Righting himself in the air, the Litten landed on all fours and glared at his opponent. "Don't let up! Use Ember!" Taking a deep breath, the Fire Cat Pokemon exhaled, aiming a barrage of burning pellets at the Evolution Pokemon, it was a bit taxing to use two attacks back to back, but he managed.

Success.Despite an attempt at a counter through its own melee, the Litten was, in the end, overpowered by the Eevee's naturally powerful moves, though Fae the Eevee winced slightly as the claws bounced off its body. As the Litten flew into the air, propelled by the force of the blow, Fae forced herself to a stop, her little paws skidding, trying to catch across the ragged, ancient floor. With a coolness in battle, Fae and her trainer watched as the Litten righted itself in air; a competent foe, noted Sol. A new wrinkle appeared as Vincent's orders bounced off the walls of the ruins: a miniature hail of flames shot forth from the mouth of the little fire cat, like a roar made manifest. Indecision ruled the moment, as neither Sol nor Fae had prepared for this moment: ranged attacks did not make an appearance in their playbook, a now glaring flaw. "Fae-" cried Sol, but it was far too late. The Eevee made to lurch to the side- far too slow. The cascade of fire pellets caught the Eevee in her side, sharp heat exploding against her body as the force of the blow sent her reeling backwards. "Footwork, Fae," he said, shaking his head, trying to find his groove again, "mind that recovery. . ."The Eevee slid to a stop and pranced around on its feet, staying mobile. Stillness had been what hurt her before. . . Another sudden command: "Tail Whip!"And, though reluctant to rush a ranged foe, the Eevee rushed forth and brandished its tail at her foe, a maneuver meant to lower its guard!
Fae took the Ember full on. However, in retaliation, she used Tail Whip, which will act as a minor debuff if it lands. Vincent Valentine

Remnants of the Past
Attacking in rapid succession left the Fire Cat Pokemon feeling slightly tired, while he was accustome to battle it still took a toll on his body when he used such a rapid-fire method like that. He knew that with experience will come mastery, and with mastery will come evolution, and in that way his body would developt and have more stamina than what he had now at his disposal. Shaking his head, the Litten took a stance and awaited his Trainer's command, his narrowed eyes set on the Evolution Pokemon before him.
Vincent let a small smirk cross his features, it seemed that the Ember had caught the two of them somewhat off-guard, perhaps they haven't expected some sort of range move like that being thrown at them? Perhaps they should keep on using the Ember volley to keep them at bay. But then a thought struck him as he saw Litten's slightly tired state. 'Even if we do that, Cinder doesn't have infinite energy, he'll tire out faster that way than merely using close range attacks. I'll have to play this by the ear...'
His opponent struck, then, undaunted by the fact that they could be attacked with the same barrage of firey pellets like last time. Brave, or foolish? Even so, Vincent wasn't gonna just stand there and do nothing. "Cinder, counter with Growl!" He had seen how that was Tackle had more oomph than what was normal as it pushed through Cinder's Scratch attack, so perhaps if he lowered the Eevee's attack it'd even the playing field.
Here was hoping at least.
Cinder reacted quickly, taking a deep breath as the Eevee approached before opening his muzzle, letting out a high, piercing growl that distorts the air in front of him. It stopped abruptly as the tail smacked him right on the side of his face, pushing him back slightly but he recovered quickly. "Easy, Cinder." The stern-looking male called out, not giving another command just yet just so he could let Litten rest for a bit and think of something to do.

As Fae charged, the Litten let out a sharp growl as the Evolution Pokemon closed in on her mark. The energy-charged roar bristled her nerves, almost as if breaking down any mental defenses she could have erected. As she shook, she could feel her strength leave her; odd- and terrifying- but Fae soldiered on, delivering the tail blow directly to the Litten's face! A moment seemed to pass as both trainers and Pokemon evaluated their next move. To the observer, Sol and Fae would have rested for no more than a mere half-moment, but in a battle, that might as well be an eternity. Battle senses flaring, Sol moved to keep up the pace! "Fae," he shouted, "kick it into overdrive! We're turning the tables right now!"And with the steely command of her trainer breaking out over the battlefield, Fae felt her power- previously diminished- return and with greater strength than before! The Eevee gave her own yipping battle cry, trainer and beast both resolved to forge ahead. "Another tackle, double time!" roared Sol, and the little Eevee threw herself across the short distance, aiming to plow herself- and her newly powered up body- right into her still still target.
Fae took the Growl, lowering her attack by one tier! However, Sol used INSPIRATION, and increased Fae's attack by two tiers for two turns! They then used Tackle, which is Minor, but also benefits from Adaptability and her power boost! Vincent Valentine

Remnants of the Past
Vincent gritted his teeth, his expression seemed to look almost murderous as he observed the battlefield and went through the motions in his mind. 'Cinder is getting tired, but he can still hold on for a few more minutes, I know he can. We trained long and hard and I made sure that he could stand up even against unlikely odds; this test will be the one to tell us if that training paid off or not.' Silence descended over the clearing, and to the two focused trainer, it was like time stopped for a few seconds as they readied their next move.
Finally, the silence was popped. "Don't let it, Cinder!" Vincent called out, getting a determined expression from his Litten as a smirk crossed his features. ( I'm getting fired up now! )
The tall young man grinned at his Pokemon's willpower, that's what he liked to hear! "Show them your unstoppable determination, Cinder! If anything, Cinder's expression seemed to deepen as his claws dug into the soil, awaiting his trainer's command as the Eevee got ever so close to him.
"Now! Use Body Slam!" A hazy white aura seemed to surround the Fire Cat Pokemon before he kicked off the ground, lunging at the Eevee and meeting head-on with a powerful clash of power!
TAGS: Sol Chance OOC NOTES Cinder counters with Body Slam! If it hits the opponent will take HEAVY damage! Litten also tanked the worst of the damage as Vincent used UNSTOPPABLE FORCE, reducing the damage of an incoming attack by three tiers. However, this can only be used once per thread.

Sol Chance's teeth clenched into a angry, iron vise as his opponent screamed his own command to his Pokemon. Why wouldn't the old vagrant and his Litten just give and submit? They were standing in the way of their betters! As the milky white energy of the Litten collided with that of his Eevee, Sol watched in abject wrath as the powerful collision sent the Eevee spinning away from the Litten, bouncing against the ground helplessly as a doll. Fae came to a stop and slowly stirred, forcing herself to her feet through raw determination. Sol's eyes burned the same way, full of a wrathful fire that sought to burn the insolent Vincent and his Litten. And, deep down, the anger was directed inward. How useless, he thought, how ill-prepared they were to match this man and his Litten. Fae was weak, he was weak. . . and that would just not do! "Fae," he bristled, "keep going, no excuses!"Training took over within the Eevee and as their emotions and determination synced, the Evolution Pokemon experienced a second wind, power coming right back to her. She growled at the Litten, her usual calm demeanor over taken by battle. "You and your Litten know how to handle themselves, Vincent," he mocked, "sad that we're your opponent. Anyone else would have hit a wall by now!"Suddenly, Sol threw his hand forward. "Fae!" He cried, "Another tackle, aim for the head! Make 'em feel pain!"The Eevee barked in response and once again flew forward, aiming her powerful body straight for the small, black and red head of the Litten.
Okay, so, Fae took a good deal of that Body Slam, feeling it hard. However, I used two of my Brutalist abilities this round: So, one Tackle, which is Minor in tier, aided by the previous stat boost, which is wearing off after this turn, and DEBILITATING BLOW, coupled with Eevee's Adaptability. Remnants of the Past
The hit was a success, and it was clear that the Eevee took a lot of damage from that move, while Litten seemed no worse for wear except for being tired after using that move. It was only through raw determination and willpower that the Litten managed to tank that, in any other situation he'd probably been send skidding back and in a world of hurt otherwise. Perhaps even knocked out, as it stood he only had a few more left in the tank before he had to call it quits.
That suited Vincent just fine, winning or losing, he was proud of his Pokemon for putting up quite the good fight. But he couldn't help but worry slightly for the Eevee, that blow must have hurt a lot, and yet his Trainer demanded her to stand back up and continue forth even in her current state. He was about to open his mouth, perhaps to call a break when the Evolution Pokemon, even against the pain stood back up with her own raw determination shining in her eyes, and one look at her Trainer showed the same emotions dancing in those eyes as well.
This... this what was he liked to see! Trainer and Pokemon, coming together against all odds, finding a common ground and connecting on a level never seen before! "You and your Pokemon got spunk, kid." The male smirked broadly at his opponent. "Winning or losing, I had a blast today." He rose his hand and pointed forward right as the Eevee began her charge, knowing that Cinder wouldn't be able to dodge in his current state, but he was still able to do something in retaliation. "But don't get cocky! We're not going down without a fight! Cinder, use Ember!"
Cinder was tired, but he loyally did as he was commanded, using the chance that the Eevee was somewhat of a stationary target on her lunge to shoot a barrage of firey pellets at her with the intention of causing as much damage as possible. But soon the Evolution Pokemon was upon him, pain exploding inside his eyes, his vision bursting with specks of white and a ringing sound muffling most of his hearing as he was throwback by the force of it, skidding against the ground and groaning in pain as he weakly tried to stand up.
"Cinder!" Vincent approached the downed Pokemon, laying a hand on the Litten's back as he inspected his injuries. "Stay down, the battle's over." The Fire Cat Pokemon hissed in annoyance but nonetheless did as he was told, even though it annoyed him greatly and stung his pride a little bit. "You fought hard, and I'm proud of you." He rubbed the Pokemon's head, reluctantly earning a content purr from the Litten. "Take a long rest, you deserve it." He unclipped the Pokeball from his belt and recalled his Pokemon back inside so he could rest until he either came upon a Pokemon Center or he made a camp and treated Cinder's injuries.
Standing up to his full height, he looked at his opponent and the smiled. "That was a nice battle." He approached the kid and extended a hand for a shake.
