Holding her notebook close to her chest, the young girl leaned against the large tree. The forest was thick around her, obscuring the view of the blue skies far above. She no longer needed her Pokedex to identify the bountiful species within the forest, being able to identify and label most of the amazing creatures that called this huge, intimidating forest their home. A small, blue creature burst out of the low shrubbery, munching on a handful of berries she had found nearby.
"What do you got there, Tubby?" The young girl knelt down, tucking her skirt under her knees. Reaching one hand out, she plucked a few berries from the Pokemon's paw. The short Munchlax looked angry at having her meal 'borrowed', as the girl looked closely at the berries. Huh, so there's Chesto Berries growing nearby. Guess I should keep my eyes open. Handing it back to the short Pokemon who stuffed it into its mouth happily, the girl rose to her feet again. Staring at the forest above, the young girl smiled and finally spoke aloud her unique dilemna.
"Hmm...maybe we walked too far, Tubby. I can't remember which way leads to the main road. Guess we'll have to leave it to chance and hope we get lucky. Not very scientific of a solution, but it'll have to do." The girl glanced down, only to find her tiny companion lying on her side sleeping. So much for leaving the area any time soon.
Turning away from the tiny Munchlax, the girl sat down next to the tree. She could feel the gentle breeze and warm temperatures lulling her to sleep slowly. Hmm...maybe waiting here will turn out for the better. Rush makes for waste, and all that.

A RELAXED STROLL !! CLICK IMAGE FOR THREAD MUSIC !!
A small way east of a certain Crux scientist, a river drops in close to the hillside and runs deep and blue. The water is cool and refreshing, having slipped twinkling down from the mountains by the stones. The water is lined with trees, pine, birch, redwood, fresh and green with every spring, carrying by their roots the debris of last winter’s flooding. Cooper inhales the air, thick with a warm presence. The sky has vanished almost completely, only a few fragments of blue remain above, sheathed away by the tree canopies. The air is rich with the fragrance of leaves and damp. Even after the rains have passed, the soil remains wet, slowly releasing a thin, milky white mist. Cooper, for once, had a doofy, genuine smile on his face as he lied on the back of his Wailmer, Conch. The water pokemon gently traveled through the wide stream, his beady eyes glancing up at ripening berries on the trees.
As the two enter the daylight of the rivers clearing, the powerful rays of the sun struck the Wailmer, but despite that the breeze has a pleasant coolness and the bright colors contain the softness of the time just after sunrise. The sound of running water in the river has a relaxing, hypnotic quality, seeming to calm the ball whale's hunger. But only for a moment.
"Waaaail?" The pokemon echoed, glancing up at Cooper and shaking gently to wake him. A Yanma, Cheerie, was fast asleep on the Wailmer's head as well, awoken by the slight shake with a wide yawn. Cooper sits up, shaking his head and slowly opening his eyes. "Uh... What's up, C-Conch?" Cooper stuttered as the whale's eyes drifted to an apple tree nearby, with perhaps the brightest, reddest apples Cooper had ever laid eyes upon. "...I-I thought I g-gave you some Pokepuffs a few m-minutes ago--"
"Wailmeeer...."
"...S-Stop with the puppy eyes! I'll-I'll get you o-one, ok?" "Wail!"
Pleased, the whale grinned big, spouting water out of his blowhole while Cooper hopped off with Cheerie groggily following. The boy was still trying to figure out a way to get the ever so overfed Conch on a diet, as his previous caretakers seemed to overfeed him, and even still Cooper learned he retreated to food as a coping mechanism regardless. The boy sighed, flipping open his Pokegear. A search open to "HOW TO DIET POKEMON" was still open, causing the boy to sigh in defeat. Until he had a surefire route to make his Wailmer less chubby and keep a good relation with him, he was subject to Conch's wishes.
Cooper stopped behind a tree- the very same tree a particular researcher was on the other side of. With extreme, silent finness, Cooper dug his tiny stub-claws into the tree, though they were still hidden by his sleeves. In a span of seconds, the boy was in it's canopy.
Cooper held his arms to the side, balancing on the branches before he found himself perched right above another below, whom he still failed to notice. In front of him was perhaps one of the greatest apples in the entire tree, causing the boy to beam... With a quick shake of the branch, a few leaves fell all while the foliage rustled, several apples falling to the dirt around Evangeline.
With that, Cooper leaped to the ground from his hiding spot, brushing some stray leaves off of his hat. He could hear another happy call from Conch, though as soon as he picked up one of the apples, a buzz from Cheerie, still in the treetops, alerted him to someone else.
Cooper turned around, going somewhat pale. "Uh... H-Hello, miss." Was his only response to the human for now. Thankfully his stub-hands were hidden beneath his long sleeves, and his grubbin dome was under his hat still, so the chances of being recognized as a Morph were slim. The boy shuddered, recalling all the odd looks he got last time.

I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT It had not been a good day. Once again, against her better judgement, Lily had taken to the wilderness the night prior, camping out under the stars with her Pokemon. That was her first mistake, as she spent the next hour chasing after Snow, who could not seem to leave the local Caterpie colonies alone. Then, as everyone settled down for the night, an unbearable odor filled the tent. Lily had shot up, knowing immediately where the stench came from. Tank couldn't help it, of course, but the trainer had used the last of her favorite soap trying to quell the odor. Needless to say, the night had been sleepless for everyone. Now, in the present, Lily was cranky and unhappy from her lack of sleep. She had spent most of the morning trying to air out the tent while constantly comforting Tank, who had been subdued and distraught ever since. Finally, after packing everything up, the group had set off through Kaxyl Forest. Lily wandered through the well-beaten trail, studying her map closely. For once, all of her Pokemon were out of their Pokeballs and free to enjoy the sights. Lily kept a close eye on Snow, who looked ready to dart off at the slightest movement. She was not about to have a repeat of her last experience in the forest. According to the map, a stream was somewhere nearby. Maybe she could give Tank a bath and cheer him up a little. The skunk waddled slowly behind her, his pudgy face downcast. Lily wanted nothing more than to pick him up and comfort him, but his smell still lingered, and the trainer knew it would not end well for her. So the group continued on, wandering through the forest in search of the stream. Pushing her way through the underbrush, Lily finally found what she was looking for. "Look, guys!" she said happily, pointing at the lazily moving stream. The faint sunlight cast shimmers on the crest of the slow-moving water, creating a lovely sight to behold. Lily led her team down to the stream, where Tank rushed down to the stream and splashed around in it, covering every last inch of his plum-colored fur in water. Lily smiled at her Pokemon, feeling a pang of sympathy for him. She let her team play in the water for several minutes while she supervised. A strange thudding sound behind her made Lily turn around. Where only dead leaves had been before were now several bright red apples. Snow noticed this as well, and quickly left the stream in search of a treat. Lily followed, trying to keep an eye on her other two Pokemon at the same time. Upon reaching the tree, she realized she wasn't alone. "Oh," she said in surprise, "hi there."

Kaid tilted his head up slightly and looked up as if trying to be face to face with the Ralts riding on his shoulders. Rolo was holding onto a few strands of Kaid's hair that were within reach. "What do you mean you don't want to walk anymore? This was your idea!" Rolo pulled the strands of hair to cover her small face. (I just.. I didn't want to anymore. I'm hungry and it's getting later than I wanted to be out.) "Well, time to get over your fear of the dark. Guess we'll just have to be out here a few hours longer than you wanted." (But Kaid-)"You'll forget all about how tired you are once we run into a new pokemon. Then you'll get all excited again." (Kaid...)
Kaid continued walking at a leisurely pace. His arms swung naturally at his sides with every step. It was a pretty nice day to be walking around the forest. Several Beautiflies suddenly burst from behind a bush. Rolo let out a frightened cry and nearly pulled out the strands of hair she had been holding onto. Kaid stumbled over a small protruding rock and fell forwards. He quickly reached out his hands. The impact into the ground was hard but it wasn't painful. He breathed heavily as he impacted the ground. A few stones had lodged themselves into Kaid's hands. He leaned up until he was on his knees and held back a swore. He turned and saw Rolo floating down gracefully next to him, a feint purple hue around herself. "Rolo..." Kaid's vision turned towards his small pokemon, holding back a notable frustration.
"Stop pulling my hair!" Kaid shouted a dispersed a few flying types that had roosted in a tree nearby. "You're a brat." Said Kaid through gritted teeth. Rolo hurried toward him and started making frantic motions with her nub-like arms. Kaid could only here her repeating her species name over and over again now. The fall had made him lose focus. "Yeah yeah..." He stooped down to pick up his small friend and she slowly moved herself into his arms. (there's people. Do you feel them?). Hmm? Kaid closed his eyes and concentrated, letting his aura flow out around him and search for others. A few blotches of color appeared in his mind's eye and he gave a small smile. It be nice to make a few friends out here, though secretly, he hoped they didn't have any hungry pokemon. He barely had enough pokefood for Rolo to have a snack on the way home.
"That's a big Wailmer..." Kaid said as he approached the small group gathered under a small fruit bearing tree. A few pokemon with a few other people stood around, seemingly just arriving moments away from him. Rolo hopped out of his arms and walked over to wear a Muchlax was happily munching on berries. Rolo calmly reach out and picked what looked to be the remaining one on the low hanging bush. She looked over at the larger pokemon as she stood holding the berry at a meer 1ft in stature. Kaid walked over to the Wailmer and patted it's side, speaking to it through its aura. "You should go for more swims my friend." He turned to the others. It was a diverse group he hadn't met before. "Hello There. I'm kaid." He said with a Cordial smile.

The sleeping Munchlax didn't stir, as something shot up the tree behind them. The girl barely caught the glimpse of something brown shooting into the branches overhead, with a speed that shocked her. Her body couldn't move as fast as her mind, which was already trying to capture everything in the clearing for analysis. I can hear the Pokemon overhead; whatever it is, its fast and foreign. Its searching for food, so maybe it's more focused on the apples than its surroundings. Her gaze finally reached the foliage above, in time to see three apples falling through the leaves. Thrusting one hand out with confidence, the girl watched as all three apples missed her open hand and fell to the ground around her. The Pokemon, much to her surprise, wasn't a creature of the forest after all. When the short figure jumped a dozen feet to the ground and landed in a crouch, grabbing one of the apples, the young girl calmly pulled her notebook from her side. The young boy's reaction was something mixed; he seemed shocked by her appearance, despite being the one who charged into her immediate area. She already measured his height with a single glance, being a tiny child measuring barely over three feet. Her interest was growing by the moment; how he'd jumped out of the tree above them without even stumbling upon landing was a mystery she'd love to learn more about. “Hey, kiddo. Well, I guess I'm as much a child as you. The name is Evangeline Cross. You wouldn't happen to know the way back to any of the nearby cities, would you?” The young girl brushed dust off her skirt, before walking forward. Her gaze swept his unique attire, before her attention was stolen by a completely white Vulpix strolling past the two. It was focused on the apples which had fallen. Kneeling down, the woman grabbed two of the three and held one out to the tiny boy. She smiled at him and motioned for him to take it. “It's yours, buddy. I'll take one, since you almost killed me when you knocked them down.” Another person, undoubtedly the Trainer who owned the white Vulpix, came up the path. An older looking girl, who stood about half a foot taller than Evangeline, with pink and brown hair. Evangeline resisted the urge to respond with a weather joke as the taller girl walked up and greeted the two. One's company, two's a crowd; it'll be hilarious when a third person sho- Her gaze dropped to her own companion, stirring in her slumber. The short Munchlax rolled into a seated position, before munching on some more berries she had procured from her thick fur. For a two-foot Pokemon that weighed over two-hundred pounds, Tubby had a surprising amount of fur. A short, green and pink Pokemon pushed past the Munchlax, reaching into the bush and grabbing berries from within. A Raltz....which isn't native to the forest. Which means that we now have ourselves a tidy mess. The short girl turned back towards the last trainer. He had stopped near the stream, talking to a Wailmer sitting in its shallow water. There were more Pokemon of varying types spread out in the narrow clearing, making the girl realize that, in comparison to her newly-met acquaintances, she had a rather lacking amount of Pokemon. Tossing the apple to one side, the girl didn't check to ensure her tiny companion caught it. Tubby did, however, catch the red orb with a happy grin. But, after a moment of trying to stuff the red prize into her fur, the Munchlax gave up and ate the fruit in one crunch. She looked at the Raltz, before shaking her head and walking over to Evangeline's side. The young Researcher finally sighed, glanced around the entire group of wildly unique individuals, and asked her burning question again. “So...of the three of you, who has the fastest directions out of this forest?”

A RELAXED STROLL MEETING AND GREETING
Cooper glanced aside when the woman introduced herself- her name was long and strung together in such a way though that Cooper, in all his awkwardness, couldn't remember her name moments after she said it. As for the way out of the forest, Cooper hesitantly nodded. "Y-Y-Yeah, you c-can leave q-quick if you go down th--" Cooper began before flinching violently when a white shape quickly emerged from the corner of his eye. The boy took a few shaking steps back, before calming down when his eyes came to focus again. "...O-Oh, wow. T-That's a V-Vulpix from Alola! I... I-I think..." Cooper blinked. He only ever saw the red fire fox variant of the Pokemon. He turned to the Munchlax's trainer, looking away in dejection when she spoke of nearly being killed. "S...Sorry." Cooper spoke before hesitantly taking the apple in his covered stub-hands.
Soon enough, the white fluffball's trainer followed suit, earning a nervous smile from Cooper as a greeting in response. A buzz echoed above, with Cheerie dashing down from the tree. She held a impressive amount of four apples in her six stubby limbs, and a smaller one for extra measure in her mouth. The Yanma plopped down the red fruits on the ground, standing proudly beside her haul.
Cooper briefly heard a spout of water echo from his Wailmer down by the river. But, alas, one more came to join the growing party of trainers- a man with a Ralts. Cooper eyed the timid pokemon- he couldn't help but to relate to it a little. Before he could think about how to greet the third newcomer, Evangeline quickly quipped again, wondering how to get out of the forest.
"T-The river is a fast way out i-if you follow the c-c-current. It goes right to L-Lacaille City." The boy glanced back to his Wailmer. "I... I think I c-could give you a ride, maybe. I-It's the least I could d-do." Cooper offered with an uncomfortably nervous smile again.

I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT Lily looked around at the small group of people as another trainer appeared. The girl gave a shrill whistle and Tank and Spectre soon came crashing through the clearing at her call. They looked around in confusion at the other people and Pokemon, then looked at each other. Snow, on the other hand, could care less about the gathering crowd and began munching happily on on the of the fallen apples, ignoring everyone as she crunched on the red fruit. Lily rolled her eyes at the fox before turning her attention on the other three humans in the clearing. The trainer opened her mouth to respond to the other girl's question, but the small boy answered before she could. She followed his glance and stared at the most massive Wailmer she had ever seen. How could she have missed it? She shook her head to ensure that she wasn't just seeing things. But no, the Wailmer was still there, floating lazily on the water. Shaking her head incredulously, she refocused her attention on the other trainers. She looked down at Snow, who was still gnawing on her apple, all the while staring at the Yanma's stash. Something told her that a fight would unfold the moment Snow finished her own apple. "So, uh, yeah, I'm Lily. That's Snow, Tank, and, uh, Spectre?" She pointed at the Vulpix, the Stunky, and then looked around for her Gastly, who had disappeared, which was never a good sign. She finally found him, floating behind the newest trainer, the man with the Ralts. A small smirk formed on Lily's face as she saw the Gastly snicker silently before licking the back of the trainer's head with his long tongue. "And Spectre," she said with a laugh.

The girl with a notebook asked, somewhat rudely, simply for the fastest rout out of the forest. Kaid closed his eyes and concentrated for a moment, bring a hand to his temple then moving over his eyes to hide the fact he was about to look at everyone's aura's. Before he could complete this however, the girl owning the Alolan Vulpix popped up and introduced herself as Lilith. Kaid smiled and nodded, then without closing his eyes this time was about to complete what he'd started when the coldest sensation he'd ever felt suddenly coursed up his neck. Fear suddenly shot through his body like lightning and he started, turned, and waved away a now laughing Gastly that simply phased through his hand like it was nothing. He'd more or less achieved what he was aiming for but there was something off. Cooper and Lilith seemed fine enough-save for her apparent mischievous nature, but there was something about the girl that had yet to introduce herself that didn't sit right with Kaid.
He smiled and shot a somewhat annoyed smirk at Lilith before turning to the others. "What're you all doing out here? And are you lost, friend?" The last part being directed at Evangeline. "I agree that cooper's instructions would get you back quick, but I believe that if you follow this path that leads North, you'll get to Vega city rather quickly. From there it shouldn't be any hastle to simply call a transport or something." Have I seen her somewhere before? Hmm.

The young girl's smile never slipped, as she watched the young boy's nervous reactions to her simple question. When he offered a ride back to Lacaille City on his Wailmer, the young researcher sighed and shook her head happily. “I'm not headed that way, unfortunately. My apartment is in Vega City, the opposite direction of Lacaille. But it would be fun to learn more about you and your neat companions at a later day, Cooper.” The young researcher pulled a Pokeball from her bag, setting the button against Tubby's head and sealing her back into her ball. The small Pokemon would be quite irritated at the prospect of missed food, but she would make it up to her with some treats in the near future. She listened as the girl introduced herself; a young trainer named Lily, with three Pokemon. Evangeline almost immediately glossed over the names; unless Lily ended up being a 'coworker' in the future, the young researcher didn't see any real value to learning names. The last person to join their unlikely entourage asked a simple question, what each of their reasons for being out in the forest were; while also addressing whether or not Evangeline was lost. Tacking friend onto the simple accusation to seemingly lighten the impact merely irritated the young girl, who sighed as the trainer pointed towards the dirt trail they all stood on. His advice, that this road led to Vega City, was helpful to say the least. “I'm Evangeline, a field Researcher. I study Pokemon Ecology for a living.” Motioning towards her notebook and the bag slung by her side, the young girl smiled at the man. “Thanks for the advice. If none of you are against it, I'll be heading north down this path. I have places to be, notes to transfer to my computer, and reports to submit.” Nodding towards the other two trainers, the young girl began walking down the path. There was no rush in her step, despite her claims that other work called for her.

A RELAXED STROLL GOT AWAY SAFELY
"O-Oh... S-s-sorry." Cooper muttered when the woman in front of him spoke of going to Vega City instead. Meanwhile, Cheerie eyed the hungry Vulpix, a low growl rumbling from her throat as she picked up her apples- two in her mouth and the rest in all six of her arms. Nope, these were her apples. And Conch's. Conch was nice. As to what Cooper was doing, the boy hesitantly answered after a few moments. "I-I was taking Conch, m-my n-new Wailmer, on a-a swim." The boy explained. With the Wailmer's size, it was easy to see why Cooper would give him some exercise.
Cooper watched as Evangeline headed off on her way... Still not good at this whole conversation thing, Cooper bit his lip after a brief awkward silence. "I--I t-t-think I should get g-going also. C-Conch is probably hungry." Cooper spoke. On cue, a spout of water could be heard puffing out of the now impatient whale's blowhole. Cooper turned around and waved, hand still covered by his oversized coat's sleeve. Trotting off at a rather speedy pace for someone with legs as short as himself, Cooper whistled for Cheerie, who flew over with her appled. Needless to say, the aforementioned Wailmer was very happy with his snack as well.

I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT A look of concern passed over Lily's face as she watched the interaction between Snow and the Yanma. Snow had looked up from her snack as the other Pokemon growled and hoarded its own apples. The little fox gave an annoyed yip and went back to her treat, seemingly pacified without trying to steal apples. That was a relief for Lily. Her Vulpix had quite an appetite was had stolen many a meal off Lily's plate. As much as she loved a good battle, it seemed like a silly thing to start over an apple. Without warning, the other girl announced her departure, turned, and left. Lily opened her mouth to say something and closed it soon after. There was no arguing with such rudeness, but the trainer was a little surprised at the abruptness. Before she could say anything, the small boy also announced that he was leaving. If his overwhelming stuttering could be considered an announcement. "Now wait a minute," she said, hoping to stop the boy before he left. "We all just got here. What's the rush?" She wasn't entirely sure why she cared that everyone was leaving so soon after meeting, but it just seemed bizarre that people could be so apathetic toward one another. Maybe it was just because she enjoyed people's company. After all, the gym challenge journey could be a lonely one. "Maybe we could just, you know, hang out?" she said feebly. "I have snacks." She always had snacks, as much as Snow ate. But, after all, who couldn't be bribed with food?
