CAME 'ERE TO WHOOPASS AND CHEW GUM. ALL OUTTA GUM. Rana Town was not too far from Shaula Town. It being somewhere around the center of the Stellara Region, Doug had plenty of locations to choose from when picking where to go, and an agricultural town seemed like a good spot. After all, where there were crops, there were bug type pokemon, right? Not so right. Apparently, these people were real good at pest control or something, because finding any bug type pokemon had proven to be much harder than he would have thought. He supposed was to be expected; of course a town that focused on agriculture knew how to deal with pests.Just as he had been ready to leave the Rana Town for more insect packed pastures, a request posted on a notice board at the center of the town caught his attention. A challenge.“Someone battle me! I don’t care who! If you beat me, I’ll give you a reward!” Now there was someone just asking for it. Doug was never one to turn down a challenge, and even if he had absolutely no clue of who the heck Mikey was or why was he willing to pay someone to kick their butt, he was all too happy to oblige him.So here he was, standing across from 'Ace trainer' Mikey on an open field, juggling a single pokeball in onehand, cocky grin on his lips.Ace Trainer Mikey looked considerably less self assured, a focused expression on his face as he fingered the single pokeball on his belt. Mikey wasn't a particularly experienced trainer; though he carried the title of ace trainer, he had not been at it for much longer than Doug himself had, and in fact, had yet to face a real trainer so far.Doug was similar; to date, he had only fought wild pokemon with his team. He supposed this was a good chance to get an idea of what a real opponent was like."Yo! We getting started some time this week? You've been staring at me for like an an hour now." Patience was not Doug's virtue."It has only been 2 minutes and I have not." Grunted Mikey as he finally grasped his pokeball, yanking it off his belt. "I was analyzing my opponent.""Which is me." "Yes.""And you were analyzing by looking at me.""Er... yes?""So you were staring at me.""...""Well?""Ugh... Let's just get started already.""Finally."

CAME 'ERE TO WHOOPASS AND CHEW GUM. ALL OUTTA GUM. The Ace trainer clicked his tongue at the Bug Catcher, his finger pressing the button on his pokeball and causing it to expand.
"Take this seriously, will you? It's my first pokemon battle-"
"Your first loss, too-"
"-You don't know that-"
"-Yes I do."
"Whatever! Just... shut up and battle, damn it." Tired of dealing with Doug's babbling, the Ace trainer threw his pokeball high in the air, the sphere sailing in an arch before opening up high in the sky, unleashing a ray of white light onto the field.
"Go, Teddiursa!" Shouted the Ace trainer as his pokemon was revealed, the mass of white taking the shape a cute bear with a moon brand on its fur.
"Huh. Interesting." Was all Doug said as he held out his pokedex, scanning the pokemon while nodding to himself in half interest. "Nice." He finished while closing his pokedex, before catching the pokeball he had been juggling one last time.
"Let's make this quick and easy! Go, Larvesta!" His pokeball sailed in the air before touching soil, unleashing his fire bug before returning back to his awaiting palm.
Needless to say, Larvesta was not happy to be out of her pokeball. Not after she noticed the Teddiursa and the other trainer across from her, that is.
She immediately turned to look at her trainer in distress, her eyes moving from him to her apparent opponent wildly, the message rather clear.
"Pssh." Was Doug's response, before he gave her a wink and a thumbs up. "You've got this, girl."
If Larvesta could have sweat, or be cold for that matter, that would have been the moment where she started sweating cold. Very slowly, she turned around to face her opponent-
Who was damn near on top of her already, it's claws out as it swung at her.
"Oh crap." Yelped her trainer, apparently not having been paying attention either. Not helping!
The bug yelped as well, both in surprise and fright, its horns lighting up reflexively before exploding in jets of fire, sending it scrambling back over the fields while her opponent stumbled after missing its swing, having put most of its weight behind it.
"Ye-he-heah! Told ya you had this!" Said Doug, praising his nervous pokemon, who dared not look away from her opponent after that nasty surprise from before. She wasn't so sure that hadn't been a fluke, but she... appreciated(?) the vote of confidence.
"Damn it- You nearly got it there, Ted! Use Scratch!" Intoned Mikey, his pokemon nodding at the order before it began charging Larvesta once again.
"Uh-oh." Muttered Doug as the small bear charged his pokemon. "Uuuh...! Evade like you did before!" His pokemon suddenly looked at him with an expression that could almost be taken for disbelief, if she weren't a bug and had nearly no control of her facial features.
Her horns lighted on fire once again, embers pumping swiftly and sending her jetting to the side suddenly, her body rolling over the ground as the Teddiursa missed her completely with his swing, falling and faceplanting onto the ground instead. It had placed even more of its weight into the attack than before. Mikey palmed at his forehead.
"Crud! Get up, get up!" ordered the ace trainer swiftly, his eyes shifting between his pokemon, Doug's and Doug himself as his opponent took action.
"Time to get on the offensive! Use ember!" Ordered Doug as he gestured towards the little bear. Larvesta had to stop herself from glancing back at him hesitantly this time, her gaze nearly shifting away from the bear before her memory quickly reminded her that it had already bitten her in the butt to ignore it.
Breathing in deeply to calm herself, the fire larva ignited her horns once again, the appendages glowing brighter this time as the embers swirled around in front of her into one single mass of flames, before they exploded towards the Teddiursa in a mass of fire.

CAME 'ERE TO WHOOPASS AND CHEW GUM. ALL OUTTA GUM. The blaze seemingly consumed the little Teddiursa... until it leaped it high in the air, the flames barely missing it as it soared. Doug and Larvesta both looked up in shock, before flinching.
Its landing was being cloaked by the sun light!
"Use Fury Swipes!"
The Teddiursa suddenly landed on Larvesta, both of them rolling onto the ground until it found itself onto, panting. Its trainer's orders were followed soon after, the little bear baring its claws and 'roaring' as it took a swing at Larvesta.
Its claws tore into Larvesta's fur, raking its chitin as the little bug yelped in pain. Another swing came soon after, this one drawing a howl from the fire bug.
"Crap crap crap- String shot, use string shot!" He ordered in a panic, his own pokemon quickly catching the panic like a disease. She immediately shot her webbing at the Teddiursa in panic, the little bear yelping in surprise as it suddenly got a face full of webbing.
It was stubborn to a fault however, growing angrily and baring its clause at her once more.
Larvesta responded with more panic, shooting yet more webbing into its face. The little bear screamed as it swung, the extra weight of the webbing piled on his face as well as its inability to see making it miss the little bug.
"No no no, get it off your face, quick, QUICK!" Ordered Mikey, waving his arm frantically as if his pokemon could still see it.
Doug grinned wide as the pokemon grasped at the sticky webs, yanking at them roughly to try and tear them off its face, managing the task somewhat. Some webbing came off its face... only to stick to its arms. Soon enough, it found itself in a tangled mess, its movements sluggish.
All the while, it could feel a... heat? In its butt. No, not just a heat...!
The Teddiursa yelped as its butt nearly caught fire, its fur singed from having stayed on top of the little Larvesta for far too long.
"We can finish this!" Shouted Doug with a grin, as he lifted a hand towards the sky.
"Oh crap, crap crap!" Mikey took his turn to panic, "Get outta there, Ted!"
"Larvesta, use Ember on the webs!" Ordered Doug triumphantly. Larvesta caught on quick, and with her trainer's confidence back, felt a little of her panic go away. Her horns ignited suddenly, five small spheres of fire lighting at the tips, before she swung them into the web covered Teddiursa, who's movements were too sluggish to run away.
The attack slammed back the little bear, throwing it off her, but also lighting up the webbing covering its fur. Soon enough, the little bear was trying to run around screaming, but the webbing held on till the last second, until it was covered in fire.
Okay, that didn't look good.
"Oh fuck, Oh fuck!" Screamed Doug as he realized they may have gone a bit over board.
"Shit, shit shit! We give, we give!" Shouted Mikey in a panic, watching his pokemon burn.
"Larvesta, put out the fire, now!" Larvesta glanced back at its trainer nervously, before nodding tentatively. It sucked up air deeply, before suddenly expelling heat out through its horns, regulating its body temperature quickly before tackling the little Teddiursa to the floor. It smothered the flames with its body, and before too long, the two pokemon rested on the floor tiredly, both a tad singed and overall just tired by the encounter.
Mikey dropped to his knees, breathing out relief while holding his chest. The entire thing had been a tad more... intense than he had thought it would be.
Doug himself had dropped butt first into the soil, both arms over his knees. He hadn't thought things would get out of hand so easily. He swiped at his forehead, perspiration leaving his sleeve much darker than it had been before.
He hadn't realized he had been sweating so much. It was rather cool this morning.
Standing up, the bug catcher patted at his butt get the dirt off him, before walking across the field towards Mikey, offering his hand to the boy. The ace trainer looked between the bug catcher and their pokemon, both exhausted, hurt, singed but okay, before smiling tiredly and reaching for the hand, letting the other boy help him to his feet.
"That was something else." Commented Mikey, looking at their pokemon once more.
"Yeah. I hadn't thought- Didn't think-" Doug bit on his lip, scratching at the back of his head. What had he been thinking?
"It's fine. Ted is okay. It's was a battle, I guess. Can't all be safe, huh?" He commented as he began approaching their two pokemon, Doug walking besides him.
"Still. What a first time, huh?" Nothing like the televised battles he had seen in the past, with the referees and the powerful pokemon that could take anything head on without risk of permanent injury, even if it knocked them out.
"Yup." Said Mikey as he reached for his pokeball, returning Ted back into it. "You did good, Ted. We'll be at the Pokemon Center soon, promise." He mumbled to the pokeball, before reaching into his pocket and extending out something towards Doug. "Here."
"Huh? What?" Asked Doug as he picked up Larvesta, laying a small kiss on her forehead.
"Well. I gave up back there; you won. Here." Doug blinked at him, scratching at the back of his head. It didn't feel like much of a victory to him. Then again, maybe that was just the circumstances. He reached for his prize, grasping it.
Mikey turned on his heel.
"Doug from... Shaula Town, right?" He asked, looking over his shoulder. Doug nodded. "Me and Ted are beginning our journey today. Look out; you are on our list now." He said, looking back at the bug catcher and grinning.
Doug blinked, before grinning back.
"Heh! That so? I'll be waiting for your next challenge then! Don't plan to lose." He said, holding out his fist.
Mikey took his turn to blink, before grinning again.
"You won't be ready for what's coming!" He said as he bumped his fist on Doug's.
"Hehehe!"
The two walked back to Rana Town's pokemon Center together, where they promptly got chewed out by Nurse Joy for being reckless dumbasses.
