I AM WHO I'M MEANT TO BE, THIS IS ME
Donny knew that it was much too dangerous to enter the town at night, so he actually spent some time camping in the forest before he made his way down by the morning. He was a little surprised that no one seemed to be out looking for him, which could really be taken in two ways: one, they sort of allowed him to do his own thing, or that they didn't really care much for him after all. Or well, there could be that third case where they somehow hadn't found him yet, in which case he should probably hurry. He wasn't used to sleeping without a bed, but he managed to get enough rest. Uno, on the other hand, seemed a little annoyed about the whole thing, already missing his morning feeding. The Murkrow squawked a little as stretched his wings, "(Are you sure this is a good idea?)" he asked sleepily.
Donny hesitated before answering, "I don't really feel like being stuck in the village for the rest of my life." he muttered, though it was laced with uncertainty. While he could cook his own meals, he had no money on his person. He wasn't sure if he could live off of foraging for the next couple of days. Perhaps the humans had a place where they could give some food to those who need it?
"(Meh, if you say so.)"
They continued their descent down the mountain, using the tall trees as coverage. Donny was used to walking long distances, so he didn't feel very tired by the time he reached the base and the town of Pavo came into view. The morning sun had already risen a bit, but the place still looked like it was sluggishly waking up. They didn't seem heavily dependent on farming compared to his village, which had some plots of land. Instead, he noticed that there were a number of shops lined up; most of them were closed. Now that he was so close, he could feel nervousness creeping up to his throat. Ack, now what? Should he just...walk in there and say hello like he did when he was seven? That ended terribly the last time, but he hadn't really thought of another way to approach people. He basically spent a couple of minutes hiding behind the shrubbery and observing life unfold. Eventually establishments started to open for the day and more people were wandering around. Some were buying stuff, and Donny could smell food being cooked. It was then his stomach rumbled. He let out a whine.
"(Oh, you're still here?)" Uno asked, flying back to his side.
"You left?"
"(I went to get some food.)" he licked his lips to emphasise it, which made the morph feel worse.
"I want food..."
"(Well, nothing's stopping you from going up to that stall over there and asking some. Or are you thinking about stealing?)" the Murkrow gave his trainer a hard glare. He did not like stealing food, only shiny things.
"Of course I'm not going to steal! I mean, maybe I can just ask?"
His Pokemon companion let out a coo while shrugging his shoulders. Donny supposed the only way he could find out if the idea was going to work was if he actually did it. With a deep breath, he stood up from the bush and decided that he shouldn't be afraid since he already got this far. With a determined face, he walked straight into the village, ignoring all the stares he got. He went up to the stall and asked a bewildered man, "Sir, can I get one of your...uhm...kebabs please? I don't have any money though..."
Naturally, he was shooed off, with the added insult that he should immediately leave because his kind wasn't welcome here. Donny thought that he was referring to him being a morph and felt dejected, sitting in a corner while still feeling very hungry. In reality, however, the man was mainly referring to him trying to beg, and had no idea that his warning was misunderstood. Still, it was said angrily, and the tone was enough to scare the morph off and feel terrible about himself. "I'm going to starve here, Uno. I guess things haven't really changed after all."
