After that ridiculous rainshower the other day, Roland was glad for this opportunity to witness the city in its true light, quite literally so. The scorching sun, the fresh scent of the ocean, the sounds of what must be tens of Wingulls flying about. It really was your typical, even perfect summer's day. Roland had thought it almost a waste not to at least take in the sights now that he's actually on his bona fide journey and everything. He almost regretted not changing out of his suit much in part to how hot he was getting, it was nothing he couldn't bare though. He had at least resigned to taking his flat cap off, leaving his hair to the mercy of the wind. And to top it all, the magnificent sight of the ocean itself, the light bouncing off the water to mirror the sky itself. Almost as if having read his mind, a voice suddenly made itself heard in the back of his mind.
("It's beautiful!")
Roland sighed audibly, knowing exactly where to find the speaker. "...How would you know?"
With that said, Roland simply looked down at Roswell, his Elgyem which was currently hugging onto Roland's leg as if for dear life, face buried in his shin. "I know you have a perfectly good pair of legs of your own you know, I didn't imagine those!"
("B-but..!")
"No buts, we talked about this!" With that said, Roland reached down and petted the top of Roswell's oblong head.
"You told me you wouldn't be scared as long I was here, remember?"
("...Fine")
And so it was that Roswell most reluctantly detached from Roland's leg, just now noticing the beautiful scenery around him. He started to walk ever so slowly away from Roland, enraptured by his surroundings.
"Hey..."
Startled, Roswell turned around in a hurry.
"...Just stay close! Baby steps, alright?"
Roswell just nodded and turned away from Roland yet again, resuming his pleasant stroll with vigour, looking back over his shoulder every now and again as if to make sure that his trainer was still there.

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Today didn't really feel like a "stay at home moping" kind of day, so Arthur was outside. His companion, Woobat, was very happy with the decision since she had been indirectly bugging him the past couple of days now. He supposed that it becomes a huge drag if he was holed up in his room all of the time, even if the pool sounded like a good idea right now. It was so hot. For this reason he stayed nearby the ocean since the breeze at least cooled him down somewhat. He sighed as he let his body rest against the rails, the sky seemingly endless along with the ocean. Yeah, maybe a good ten minutes of this and he would go buy a drink somewhere. He was sure that Woobat would like a strawberry smoothie. The little bat, in contrast to her trainer, was cheerily making noises as she flew around the place. She would greet the Wingulls a good day and would soak herself briefly in the nearby fountain, making her fur sag for a while. In this atmosphere though, it dried up pretty quickly, so it didn't take long for her to be flying around again, free of troubles. That was until she forgot to be careful and slammed into an unsuspecting Eglyem. The ripple of pain alerted Arthur to turning around and pinpointing where she went. "Woobat?" he called, scouring his surroundings until he found her apologizing profusely to another Psychic-type Pokemon. Huh, he had yet to train an Eglyem, but it was on his list of possible candidates for his gym Pokemon. This one belonged to someone else though since it seemed very clingy to a man in a suit that just showed up. What did you do? he asked her in a scolding tone, picking her up from the ground. Out of habit, he momentarily forgot not to speak telepathically while he was outside. I-I was just playing! I didn't see the other Pokemon, so...Arthur sighed. This wasn't the first time she bumped into something...or someone. He made sure to switch back to normal speaking mode so that the other trainer might not get suspicious. "I told you to be careful, remember? I'm not bringing you out anymore if you keep causing trouble like this.""(Waah! No, anything but that!)" she cried, starting to use fake tears out of habit. Arthur knew full well that she was using a move, though other people might really think she was crying. Letting her stay in his arms, he approached the other trainer and did a short bow. "I apologize for my Pokemon's carelessness. Is your Eglyem alright?" hopefully this was a situation he could get out of sooner than later. He wasn't above paying the guy either for his injuries. Some prissy women with their Skitties or Frufrous had demanded that before.

Roland could scarcely believe it as what he recognised as a Woobat had swooped in out of nowhere, crashing straight into Roswell's forehead with quite some force, knocking him backwards and unto his back. It was quite funny in a way, Roswell just laying there, staring straight up into the air as if pondering what had just occured, the Woobat screeching right next to him in what Roland assumed to be an apology. Roland caught someone approaching them quite quickly in the corner of his eye, figuring it must be the Woobat's trainer. He was just about to walk up and tend to the two of them himself when Roswell suddenly got up on his feet, only to turn and run towards Roland with arms outstretched towards him. Amused at the adorable sight, he picked him up from the ground with both hands, holding him up at face height. He made sure to speak to Roswell telepathically, knowing that the pokemon found it much more comforting as opposed to talking. "Did the mean Woobat scare you?"Roswell just nodded furiously, visibly shaken by recent events. Still, it didn't seem he was hurt at the very least, not that it ever hurt to ask. "Does it hurt anywhere?" Roswell seemed deep in thought for but a moment before he shaked his head ever so slightly. "...Meaning you're fine in every conceivable way?"" Roswell perked up just a little at the comment, having seemingly come to a marvelous realisation. ("H-hey yeah..! I'm fine!") Roland chuckled delightedly at Roswell's answer before answering him in turn, though with actual speech this time. "Glad to hear it buddy!"Having settled that, Roland gazed past Roswell at the Woobat's trainer standing in front of him, along with the forementioned Woobat, now crying in its owners arms. Roland was starting to think that the Woobat was much more a victim in this scenario than Roswell had ever been. Still, this trainer bowed and apologized to them. Having not taken much notice of the other trainer before, Roland just now took notice of their flamboyant outfit and positively chalk white hair. "Oh, he's just fine" With that said, Roland quickly turned Roswell around in his hands, presenting him to the white haired trainer with a smile. "See? All good."Roswell, a bit too eager to prove his trainer right, spoke up as well, although he did so telepathically. ("All good!")Tags: Arthur Wright OOC: Not at all, swoop I say! ^^

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Arthur showed a small smile in response, "That's good. Woobat's fine too." thankfully the little Pokemon calmed down and was mostly sniffling, still trying to sell the act. You could at least try to coddle me... she said through telepathy, pouting as she did so. You're being surprisingly needy today. he responded sarcastically. He did notice something odd though--while Woobat had been whining earlier, Arthur paid some attention to the other trainer. He was quiet as he was holding up his Eglyem, though the Pokemon seemed to have reacted to something. He wouldn't put it past the small oblong creature to use telepathy, but the stranger, on the other hand...was it too risky to ask? Perhaps a normal person would not have noticed it. The inkling of the possibility sort of excited Arthur though, as he had never met someone who had the same abilities as he did. But he was probably getting ahead of himself. What happened to just limiting the conversation to just checking if the Pokemon were alright? Still, he might as well attempt some small conversation since his mother had been egging him about that for the past months...years? Yeah. "You usually don't see Eglyems around here. Are you from Unova, by any chance?" he asked. Recently Eridani was trying a more tourist-y approach, marketing itself to other regions so that more people would visit. In the past few months, there had been a huge explosion of trainers and visitors, making the city even more crowded than it was before. It was partially why Arthur had less desire to go out, but he supposed it brought a lot of interesting-looking folk.

While he could still see the Woobat sniffing and sobbing somewhat, Roland decided to take his word for it when he said that it was alright. Having sorted that out, Roland carefully put Roswell back on the ground, hoping that this little incident hadn't drained him off that vigour from a moment ago. The dream was about as short lived as the time it took for Roswell to run in half a circle, settling behind Roland, tugging at his leg as he eyed the other trainer most carefully. Roland resolved to cut his losses in this instance, just glad that Roswell's face wasn't buried in his leg this time around. Progress, that's what he'd call it. With that over and done with, he figured he'd at least answer the guy's question. "Well... I am, but..." He threw a glance at Roswell real quick before he continued. "...He isn't. I found him in here in town just yesterday." Roland patted the top of Roswell's head as he continued. "No idea where he came from, and if what I presume to be a local such as yourself don't know either... then i'm stumped." While Roland wasn't sure where to really go from here, there was something else that needed to be said. "Nice shirt by the way, i'm really liking the pattern!"

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "Huh, that's interesting." but unfortunately quite common in the region of Stellara. As far as he knew, many Pokemon would often get separated from their trainers, or just wound up wandering in the city without a trainer at all. Some were definitely strays, but others were just unlucky. He supposed what was more surprising was how much this Eglyem trusted this trainer. "Strays are pretty common here. Eglyem might've not liked its previous trainer, or it could've been involved in more unsavoury things." abuse was a real possibility. Not all trainers were kind, after all. Hmm, perhaps this was an opportune time to steer the conversation to communication. "Eglyems are Psychic types though. I'm sure the little one knows telepathy, so if he wanted to, he could tell you." he concluded. Woobat at this point had stopped sniffling and hopped down from Arthur's arms, trying to approach the shivering Pokemon clinging onto Roland's leg. "(I'm really sorry for crashing into you a while ago! You don't have to be scared...)" she said, trying to coax him from hiding. She then flapped her wings a little so that she was hovering nearby him. "(Hey, let's play! I promise I'll watch where I'm going! There's a lot of places here to explore, you know?)""If you're going to try running off again make sure it's still inside the park, Woobat." he reminded, having a good idea what she was planning even without the telepathy. He was a bit caught off guard by the compliment though, which seems rather misplaced but maybe he wasn't sure what else to say. Being on the same boat here wasn't particularly helpful. "Oh, thanks. I, uh, like your suit." this was going south fast. Maybe it was time for them to part ways and go to the smoothie shop that Woobat wanted. Alternatively, he could invite them if he was feeling generous...was he? Hmm. It would depend on his responses, and if he showed traces of being a Psychic, he definitely wanted to learn more without being too direct about it. Roland Gates ✖ it's okay, it's kind of hard to make it long since arthur isn't chatty xD

"Oh, he told me alright. It's just that he doesn't really know either." While Roland had no qualms about telling people about Roswell's presumed origins, he wasn't quite sure how to formulate it just yet, this being the first opportunty he'd have so far to tell someone about it. After all, how DO you properly explain that your pokemon might've come from space? "Or well..."Meanwhile, Roswell's grip on Roland was as strong as ever. While he remained ever as cautious as the Woobat approached, he could hardly feel threatened by such a friendly approach and an offer to play of all things. He supposed that as long as Roland was nearby, it couldn't be too scary. He carefully looked up towards Roland and spoke the one way he could to him. "C-can I go play?" Roland looked at Roswell with what was clearly disbelief in his eyes, finding it almost unbelieable that Roswell would voluntarily leave him. He was so shocked in fact that his answer was blurted out vocally this time around. "Of course, have fun now!" With verbal approval from his trainer, Roswell nodded towards the Woobat before he let go off Roland and slipped away to play for a bit. Having thought it over for a bit now, there really only was one good way of formulating it, that being blurting it all out at once and explain afterwards in case something was unclear. "...He's an amnesiac who's last memory is that what I can only assume was a U.F.O from his description dropped him in some field somewhere and left him there, meaning he's probably... an alien." He paused for a bit after that info-dump just now, presumably to let the other party absorb it all. He also took the opportunity to respons to the counter compliment from a moment ago. "And thanks, not a lot of people have it in them to appreciate a nice suit."Tags: Arthur Wright OOC: Here's hoping this catches his interest then

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. Oh, it sounded like there was more to the story that Arthur had expected. Was he going to talk about hearing things, by any chance? Woobat, on the other hand, didn't really care too much on what the other trainer had to say. She made sure that she was flying not too far from the Eglyem as she led him closer to the rails that separated them from the ocean. Along the way she circled around him, taking a better look at the strange-looking Pokemon. Once they got the black bars, she landed beside Roswell as their vision was partially obscured by the poles. ("I really like this spot. The ocean looks like it just keeps going on forever.)" she commented; her fur ruffled a little from the sea breeze. ("So what do you want to play? How about tag? Or hide and seek? Or we could go for some smoothes. I looooove smoothies. Master promised me that he would take me there later! I bet your trainer wouldn't mind a smoothie. Everyone loves smoothies.)" she babbled. Meanwhile, back with the trainers, Arthur quietly listened to Roland's recounting of meeting with the Eglyem. "You don't hear that everyday." he muttered, crossing his arms, "As a Psychic-type, though, he should be able to regain his memories eventually if he wanted to. Memories can't really be erased, they're just buried deep down." at least, that was his take on it, anyway. He had never been able to just read someone's mind, only communicate with them. It was both a blessing and an unfortunate drawback, he felt. "I don't really know much about Eglyem other than the region they're from though, so he could be an alien for all we know."He then glanced at the two Pokemon, where Woobat seemed to be chatting lots about something. "I have a sneaking suspicion that she's trying to get him to buy smoothies." he said with a small frown. "Well, it would be a shame to part ways now. Woobat doesn't get to play with many Pokemon besides the ones back home. Do you want a bit of a tour around the city?" usually he didn't talk this much either, but because he had been holed up in his room the past few days, his mouth suddenly felt happy to be talking. Weird. Anyway, he could still fish for something that was relevant to him if he tried to prod it enough. Or maybe he was just interested to see another Psychic Pokemon.

Roswell hoistered himself on one of the lower bars to get a better view of the ocean, and he couldn't help but agree how pretty it looked. While Roswell had no particular preference in terms of games, the mention of "smoothies" piqued his interest. He let himself back onto the ground and turned towards the Woobat, tilting his head quizzically to the right. ("What's a "smoothie"?") While he really did have no idea what a smoothie was, what little information he possessed on the matter was that supposedly everybody loved them. Roswell could thusly only deduce that he would also love it. Meanwhile, Roland couldn't really argue with the other training regarding Roswell's memories. It was only natural to assume that an amnesiac stood to regain their memories somehow, be it through psychic powers or not. "Maybe, I wouldn't even know where to start looking for answers myself. I can't read minds, believe it or not." Roland had always thought of it as kind of a dissapointment that he couldn't read minds on top of all the other things he could do, it just seemed too basic an ability to just be... left out. Not that he was complaining or anything, having any powers what so ever was obviously better when compared to not having any to begin with. "It would be pretty cool if he turned out to actually be an alien." Roland wasn't sure how much it would really matter whether he was from here or elsewhere, but the idea of a pokemon from space was pretty interesting in of itself. When offered a tour on top of smoothies, he couldn't find any reason to refuse. Like, who doesn't like smoothies? "Sure, who doesn't like smoothies?" For the sake of convenience, he called Roswell telepathically. Hey, we were just offered a tour, you coming?" Roswell turned around quickly enough and ran straight to Roland's side, obviously excited for something. ("Are we getting smoothies?") "Why yes, we are!"Come to think of it, there was one place in particular he'd like to see much more so than anything else in the city. Just so he wouldn't have to look for it when he was good and ready for it. "I don't suppose a local like yourself could show us where the Gym is?" Tags: Arthur Wright OOC: Can't say no to a smoothie

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "(Whaaaaat? You don't know what a smoothie is? You're missing out!)" she flapped her wings to show her bewilderment since her eyes were covered by her fur. ("It's like, really good! Really yummy!)" Woobat actually didn't really know how to describe it, but it just tasted really good and sweet. Well, might as well show him later rather than describe it to him! She couldn't like, project the image to his head or anything. That was something she didn't really know what to do yet, and she wasn't sure if Roswell was cool with that. But hey, wait a minute, he was a Psychic type, so he should know how to communicate with telepathy, right? Back with Arthur, with his arms still crossed as if in deep thought, replied carefully. "It doesn't seem like anyone can, except for more experienced Psychic type Pokemon, that is." Humans couldn't as far as he knew. Or well, as far as his psychic abilities could allow him. It seemed that they were only limited to establishing mind connections to others for communication, but a one-way street was a no-no. The other person had to hear him, but it didn't necessarily mean that he had to know who he was and the like. That only worked for a few moments though, since the connection was very weak and whatnot. If he were to agree to communicate with someone, on the other hand, well that was a different story. He hadn't really explored the limitations of that yet, but it seemed that so long as he could see Woobat for example, he could talk to her. "I guess it would be cool if he were, but people might want to steal him because of that." he said offhandedly. Woobat was surprised that Roswell suddenly ran back to his trainer with no warning whatever. Huh, she guessed that they did speak telepathically after all. She followed suit, flying back to Arthur's shoulder as she said to him telepathically, They talk like we do! I thought you were the only one, Master? The young man froze, hearing this information, but decided to explore it a little later. "We're going to tour them around, Woobat." he said slowly, almost using telepathy in response at first, but then realising that would be suspicious. "We're going to get smoothies."(Yay, smoothies!!)"Arthur raised his brows at the other man's request before he showed a smile. "Of course. We can pass there before we go to the milk shake cafe Woobat really likes."

Roland supposed that powers like his would never measure up to that of an actual pokemon, especially the more powerful ones. Not that it made a human with actual psychic abilities any less spectacular in and of itself. He just had to be more clever about how he used them to make up for the gap is all. "Lucky them, am I right?"Hearing the man remark how someone might steal Roswell from him should he turn out to be an alien, he couldn't help but laugh at the mere notion of such. "Was that a threat just now?" He asked so jokingly. "Even if all Elgyems in the world turned out to be aliens, I fail to see why anyone would specifically target mine." Besides, if anyone did ever target Roswell for any such reason, he'd just have to deal with them, plain and simple. He'd most likely be at least a fairly experienced trainer on top of his psychic abilities by the time anyone tried to pull something like that on him. As Roswell and Woobat returned, the white haired trainer seemed awfully tense all of a sudden. It slipped his mind as the other party most graciously agreed to show them to the gym. "Sounds good to me, lead the way!" Roswell was most likely more excited than Roland at this stage, eager to try one of these "smoothies". Tags: Arthur Wright OOC: ~Wiggles back~

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "Hmm, I guess you could call them lucky." he concurred. Again, pros and cons to the whole thing. He furrowed his brows when the stranger said that he was thinking of stealing the Eglyem. "No, I have plenty of Psychic types at home, and I don't know if your Pokemon matches my standard." he answered, not caring if it sounded insensitive or something, "I simply made the comment because robbery is a common crime in Stellara. For example, there's a business here that looks for "lost" Pokemon, then trades them for a profit.""Anyway, let's stop by the gym first. It's not too far from here." he motioned the two to follow him while Woobat cheered, "(Gym, gym!)" before looking down at Arthur and asked, "(When are you going to tell them that you're the gym leader?)"I don't plan to. If they'll challenge me, then that's when they'll find out. he replied with telepathy so that the other man wouldn't notice anything. It would be Woobat that would look back every now and then and tell Arthur to slow down if they were moving too far ahead. He had forgotten that this was probably the first time this other trainer was looking around Eridani. To Arthur, it was the same old crowds and same old shops, even if they had different names or different faces. Mostly everything was a blur to him, but his presence commanded some sense of dominance so most people moved out of his path. After a couple minutes of walking, they reached the esteemed Wright tower, where today it seemed like business as usual. A number of people who requested services and whatnot were moving in and out of the building, but it didn't look like any of them were trainers looking for a challenge, thankfully. "The Gym is located inside this building." he said simply, "The cafe is a few more blocks down the road, unless you want to go inside?""(Master's house is awesome!)" Woobat chirped.

Hearing the other trainer proclaim that he had "standards" that Roswell supposedly didn't meet had Roland convinced that he either couldn't take a joke, or that he couldn't pick up on sarcasm what so ever. "So what you're saying is that you WOULD steal him if he met these standards of yours?" While Roland understood that the other trainer probably meant well in warning him about the odds of him being robbed in Stellara, robbery hardly seemed like anything exclusive to the region. "Isn't that always the case though?" Following the other trainer through the city, it was soon obvious to Roland that this other guy wasn't one for detours. Not that Roland minded too much, he'd asked to see the gym after all, this guy was just obliging him. Walking through the streets of a city like this obviously came with passing quite a lot of people, meaning that it didn't take long for Roswell to cling to Roland's thigh yet again, opting Roland to slow down somewhat so that the little could keep up without tripping. They eventually reached quite the skyscraper, quite literally towering above everything around it. He supposed that he shouldn't be surprised that gyms were deliberately put in these over the top locations, probably just to intimidate challengers. ("Whoa, it's so tall!") Well, it was working well enough. Then he saw the sign above the entrance: "Wright Telecommunications". "Wait...Wright?" He faintly recalled having heard the name in passing back home, meaning that they were probably a big deal out here. In any case, he sincerely doubted that anyone here would recognise him, and even if they did, they would never make the connection, his father had made sure of that much. Even so, he wasn't in a place where he could confidently challenge a gym like this. He'd be back when he was good and ready for it. "...Nah, let's go." Resuming his walk. he instead started to consider what flavour he'd like for his smoothie. "What's their selection like?" He was mostly asking in case that whatever he'd pick turned out to not be on the menu. Tags: Arthur Wright OOC: Sorry for taking so long ^^;

MAYBE IT'D BE FASTER IF THE ONE WHO DISAPPEARED WAS ME. "No, I'm not desperate." Arthur answered, having no clue that the stranger was trying to joke or anything of the sort. "But I suppose you're right that it's not an uncommon phenomenon. And people still have the tendency to let their Pokemon out despite the danger." such as the case of Woobat, for example. The young man always carried one gym Pokemon just in case he got in trouble, but he wouldn't count it as part of his personal team or anything. He didn't let them out of their ball either for practicality's sake. He didn't want to be a beacon for strong Pokemon; he didn't really want to call attention at all, though for other people, his fashion would say otherwise. "Yes, the Wright Corporation owns all of the telecommunications in Eridani City and also some other spots around Stellara. They made a few touch bases outside of the region, so perhaps you may have heard of them before, but otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised if tourists would not be familiar with them." Arthur answered comprehensively. He didn't have the vibe of a challenger--not yet, anyway, so the young man was not surprised to hear that he didn't want to go inside. He showed a small smile as Woobat chirped some more about smoothies. "They're famous for experimenting, so besides the conventional flavors, they also have some strange ones." he gestured for them to follow, and they probably walked another five minutes or so before reaching a district full of restaurants and cafes. The one that Arthur frequented wasn't as popular as it used to be when it first opened, but nevertheless, it attracted a steady stream of customers. This at least meant that it did not take a while to order nor find a place to sit. The place was cozy and bright, with some tables, chairs, and couches. The menu was displayed on the top but the counter also had a smaller physical copy sitting on top of the shiny surface. "I'll go ahead and order first." he told the stranger as he approached the clerk and ordered a strawberry shortcake smoothie and a simple vanilla bean one. Roland Gates ✖ no problem c: we can part ways after the cafe?

"Relax, it was just a joke." Nothing the most serious, almost offended tone of the other trainer, Roland thought it safe to assume that any further attempts at humour were lost on him. It was almost funny how he couldn't pick up on it. "Of course they do, constantly worrying about things like that is just outright unhealthy." In Roland's particular case, he was mainly letting Roswell walk around as a means of easing his anxiety in the long run. Roland had raised an eyebrow as the other trainer had explained what the Wright name was all about, he sounded fairly invested to say the least. Roland would've asked about it, had he cared even slightly about Wright Telecommunications, which he didn't. Smoothies though, now that was something he could get behind. Observing the menu, they seemed to have most types of berry, counting the most enigmatic and justly named Enigma Berry. While Roland's favorite kind of berry, the most juicy Liechi berry was also on the menu, he could hardly resist trying what was essentially a mystery drink, especially considering just how rarely they turned up on the market. And so he ordered it, earning a chuckle from the clerk as he told them his order. He also ordered a simple Oran berry smoothie for Roswell, you just couldn't go wrong with Oran berries.
