He’d gotten word from several people that the planetarium in the next city over was open again, and him being the big kid he was that was obsessed with stars and outer space, he knew he had to check it out right away.
Luckily, the Reserve didn’t get too many challengers yet (as word of his status was on the down-low, he preferred to masquerade as one of the workers of the area—all too easy as he had quite a thing for Flying-types like his dad did) so he’d decided to let the rest of the employees handle business by themselves—they were capable enough, as it is.
And besides, I don’t think anyone’s going to come challenge me yet… he thought to himself as he’d finally disembarked from the bus he’d taken from Lacaille over to Vega; which had dropped him near one of the city’s Pokémon Centers.
Knowing that he was carrying a mish-mash of a team, he then slipped inside and quickly traded out his belt, loading up with the team he was comfortable with using before hitting the streets again.
Once he was back out on the road, he then came to a stop near a newspaper stand, and discreetly bought a map of Vega to pore over, along with a copy of the day’s newspaper.
Now, what was he going to do while waiting for the planetarium to open up…?

the things that you might like don't grow inside of me Ryusuke was thinking that it was really about time to move on to a different city. The plan had never been to stay in Vega longer than any other place Ryusuke had visited so far in the region, but recent events had most definitely changed his mind on that one. While it was completely a byproduct of their actions rather than the Teams themselves he knew first hand what kind of trouble such groups could cause if left unchecked, and while their influence in Hoenn had never gotten to the point where it mirrored the things Ryusuke had grown up reading about from Johto and Kanto... the same couldn't apparently be said of Stellara's own problem. All the more concerning was the fact that Ryusuke had never even heard of Crux before their attack on the Gala. Regardless, he knew now. Knew and was sensible enough to put distance between himself and where they'd last been seen, the only delay being a stop back to the Pokemon Center to retrieve one of the Pokemon he'd acquired during his travels in Hoenn almost a year ago. One he'd admittedly been hoping to avoid using but Ryusuke was no fool and it made sense to keep his strongest fighters present just in case now. An older Pokeball now in place where Rotom's shiny new one had been on his belt and clad in his usual black attire and red coat, Ryusuke wasted no time leaving the Pokemon Center with Treecko clinging to his back. The fastest path out of the city was thankfully to the north and exactly where he'd been intending to go in the first place, and Ryusuke's pace was brisk enough that he nearly collided with people several times as he cut through the crowd populating the city sidewalks. It wasn't until he had come within a hair's breadth of bumping into someone again by a newspaper stand that he stopped - a quick apology had been about to leave his lips before doing a double take at the person he'd nearly run into. "Dam- the fuck? What are you doing here?" The blond started, dead still as his mind processed the fact that someone he'd met in another city had actually gone to Vega following Crux's rather public outing.

At that moment, he’d unfurled the newspaper, which had the headline of “TEAM CRUX SIGHTED” and was reading the accompanying story inside it.
Due to the size of the broadsheet he’d bought, he’d almost crashed into someone, had the familiar voice not cued him off as to who’d almost very nearly ran into him.
“I could ask you the same thing, Ryusuke,” he began in greeting, finally looking over the top of the paper that he was reading. He’d gotten to the middle part of the front-page headline story, which run across four pages—but what was strange was that he’d also dropped by the Gala, yet he hadn’t seen any hide nor hair of the so-called “Team Crux” as the press heralded it.
“Originally, I was supposed to head towards the planetarium here and catch a show, but it’s not going to be open for a few hours yet,” he added, quickly folding up the paper before handing it to him for the other to peruse should he want to read the story in it.
“I find it strange, though… I was also at the Gala but I hadn’t seen or heard of any of these things that the press is saying about Team Crux being present… if I saw you I’d have stopped by for a quick word. Have you seen them?” he asked the other.
Maybe he’d gotten lucky and hadn’t run into any of them…?

He'd been there before Crux had done their thing at the Gala, and it should've been obvious what his intentions were now. He was continuing straight past the city's Gym - something he'd rather not be doing under normal circumstances - and there was nothing else in the direction the blond was going aside from the city outskirts. At least nothing that would immediately concern most trainers or that Ryusuke knew of. Entirely possible that locals who knew the area better could debate that point and name a business or location of interest which might explain Damian's response, but it certainly wasn't the first thing on Ryusuke's mind. "Dunno where you've been but they weren't exactly easy to miss. I cleared out before they got anywhere near the streets I'd been on but I dunno how you miss bombings you'd notice from a few blocks away." Ryusuke retorted, eying the other trainer over now as Treecko shifted around to peer over the blond's shoulder and do the same. Come to think of it... it had come off as rather odd. All of this had happened only a couple of days ago. It'd involved a very public series of bombings and a show of force the likes of which disturbingly reminded Ryusuke of Rocket's MO during their occupations of Goldenrod and Saffron in Johto and Kanto, respectively, and the first thing people did after cleaning up the mess was go right back to their usual lives. No overly visible police presence or anything, just a frontline news story and that was it. Even more disturbing, though, was the fact that they'd just disappeared afterwards. They'd clearly been there for something but Ryusuke honestly wasn't sure he wanted to know whatFrankly better to just steer clear of the whole mess, which was pretty much his plan from the start. "And no. No, I haven't, plan's to keep it that way. Was just on my way out of the city, but it doesn't look like you're in much hurry to leave." Ryusuke continued, answering Damian's other question. Why he'd asked that the blond had no idea, but he was just fine with the answer he'd been able to give.

Huh, that was strange.
“Were you at the Gala? I was outside the city limits, where the faire was. Had an interesting run-in with a formidable woman who doesn’t take shit, accompanied by a Ponyta.
For the most part I was where the younger crowd was, enjoying the food stalls and all that. Didn’t see hide nor hair of them,” he offered by way of explanation, before realizing that the other’s behavior struck him as strange—he knew that Vega had gotten a new Gym Leader, so wasn’t it strange that he was headed out of the place as opposed to heading towards the Gym proper?
At this point, he didn’t know that the Vega Gym was also the planetarium where he’d eventually end up several hours later, but that was for another time.
“As a matter of fact, I was going to check out the gym here. Last time I came by, the place was closed—but since then it’s opened up again…” he added a few moments later as he then took another glance at the newspaper.
Sure, it told the story for the most part; maybe he really was lucky to not have seen them—if what Ryusuke was telling him was to be believed.

Ryusuke couldn't recall seeing anything like that during the event - as far as he'd been aware the entirety of the Gala's festivities had been contained within the city itself. Then again he couldn't claim to actually know that. The rather fortunate avoidance of Crux aside Ryusuke hadn't seen much beyond the streets near the Pokemon Center, or much of Vega itself at all. He'd never particularly cared all that much for urban environments in general much less the dense crowds and it had seemed like a good idea to keep close to the one point of reference he had while in the city. "Yeah, I was there. Like I said, though, cleared out soon as I heard things starting to explode." Ryusuke answered, confirming again that he'd been present and a tad annoyed at that point - the blond wasn't fond of repeating himself. The latter half of what Damian said, though, sounded about right and fairly familiar to boot. It perfectly described the area Ryusuke himself had started out around until Treecko led him on a short chase through the city streets. Not that he could be sure, though. The Gala had been a fairly large event and somewhat chaotic even before Crux had appeared, and it might've been entirely possible that he and Damian were feet away from each other at one point. Or they could've been on opposite ends of the event, it was impossible to know with how many people had actually been there - spotting any one individual out of that crowd would've been a nightmare. If anything it made running into Damian like this all the more odd until he spoke again and reminded Ryusuke of which building they were standing in front of. "Guess you do you, then. Wasn't aware it'd opened but not planning on sticking around after the Gala anyways. Maybe next time once things have had time to settle but wasn't planning on checking the place out until I was ready to take it on." Ryusuke responded, a wayward glance drifting towards the Gym but not lingering for more than a second before his attention was back on Damian. Again with the oddities - strange that a Gym would publicly open so soon after what was effectively a terrorist attack not more than a few streets away from here, and that sudden return to normalcy simply felt wrong so soon. It wasn't something Ryusuke was ready to deal with, and even if he did bother to inspect the Gym now and do a bit of research... things changed. If he left town now and came back in a month or two there was a very good chance it might not even be the same Gym Leader much less the same Pokemon.

I just find it strange that you’d clear out so soon after a Gym opens. I know you’d hang around and check things out for a while, before actually going on a challenge. But with what’s been going on lately, I guess it’s understandable why you want to get out of here as quickly as possible… he thought to himself, folding the newspaper and tucking it under his arm, before gazing over at the general direction of the Gym.
Hmm… maybe he’d have to delay his plans a little bit.
“Well, I wouldn’t exactly want to keep you too long, but… it’s been a while since we last saw each other. Been getting a team together?” he asked the other curiously.
The last time, their meeting was a little on the short and hurried side; but now he had more time to spare; before nodding in greeting at the Treecko that was hanging around his owner.
He’d definitely been busy on his end too, having gone around and encountered more companions for his journey.
It was definitely slow going, though, considering how hard it was to look for Flying-types despite them being the third most-commonly existing kind of Pokémon out there.
“Got some time to spare? My companions could use the exercise a little bit, and I figured—since you’re the only one I’m familiar with as of the moment… care to have a little sparring match? Not out here, of course. Out back behind the Pokémon Center should work…” he offered the other.
Hopefully it wasn’t going to be such a waste of time, considering that Ryusuke was in a hell of a hurry to clear out of Vega as soon as possible; and his concern wasn’t without reason either.

the things that you might like don't grow inside of me "Not really. More like I'd put in a few calls and got a few I'd caught in Hoenn back. Seemed like they were more comfortable there but not like I can really afford to take chances given recent events." Ryusuke said, a non-answer if there ever was one. He'd caught maybe two Pokemon since he'd last run into Damian in Lacaille if the blond didn't include one particularly troublesome upstart that had decided to tag along for no apparent reason, but the rest was true. Treecko had long been his strongest partner but even the Grass type was far from infallible. A bad type match up or significant gap in experience could spell a lot of trouble for them both, and it had seemed like a prudent measure to recall a few older teammates that had been acquired during his first year spent touring Hoenn. Others like Charmander were simply out of shape, though, and long overdue for a workout to kick them back into fighting condition. All the more reason to get a move on and head to another town, though, although Ryusuke would find himself casting a wayward glance to the Gym across the street. Even with Treecko it wasn't a place he was overly keen to take on with the rest of his team as they were. Dark types had never really been one of Ryusuke's favorites after dealing with ill tempered Poochyena and Mightyena, but his team was ironically rather ill equipped to handle them at the moment. With everyone else lagging behind Treecko who'd never really fallen out of shape the blond had a rather good idea of how any potential challenge issued to Vega's Gym would end, and while Ryusuke was all for proving the odds wrong he wasn't really interested in volunteering for a free beating. Oddly enough, though, Damian's line of thinking seemed to closely mirror his own. But I just came from there. Ryusuke thought, frowning slightly at the suggestion. Under normal circumstances he probably would've been all for it, but.... What the hell. It was less than a block away and a few minutes wasn't likely to matter either way. Even during Crux's attack the Pokemon Centers seemed to have been left well enough alone. After a moment of deliberation Ryusuke would let out a frustrated sigh before shoving his gloved hands back into his pockets and turning to stalk back towards the building in question. "You want a beating, be my guest. Plan was to be out of here before mid day, though, so not really looking to drag things out." Ryusuke said, continuing down the sidewalk as Treecko's gaze remained on Damian for several seconds before glancing down with a confused look to the blond.

On the team-building front, he wasn’t having much luck—but at least there was a start somewhere.
He really missed that emerald-cored Sableye who loved cackling and hiding in his shadow; but so far, he hadn’t been able to secure its return.
Neither was he having any luck on the other front—while his wish list was rather small; a vast majority of them proved to be elusive as of the moment… not to mention it would be literally going through who knew what kind of hell just to get the ones he was specifically looking for.
Well, at least I’m on a good start, I got some decent Flying-types with me… even if Azrael isn’t one yet, but that’s still a long way to go… he thought to himself, before saying, “Well, at least you got some of your team back, that’s important. I’ve got some reasonable companions with me now, but the rest are still proving to be rather elusive,” before following the other back towards the Pokémon Center.
“It won’t take too long, I can guarantee that,” he added a few moments later, taking the lead and stepping inside the Pokémon Center before looking for a staff member who wasn’t busy and inquiring if some of the practice grounds out back weren’t occupied.
Fortunately, there was one that had just been cleared out, and he took quick note of the directions before looking over his shoulder to check if the other was still following him.
“One of the practice areas just freed up, you going to change out any of your team or shall we go get this done quickly?” he asked Ryusuke.

Treecko aside Ryusuke had left what were likely some of his strongest fighters back in Hoenn when he'd left the region. Half of it had honestly been to help out his old man as the guy still had issues getting around - all things considered Ryusuke knew he'd been quite lucky to regain full functionality of his limbs after the accident, if not the actual limbs themselves. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, a well earned break for Pokemon that much preferred a tropical environment. The only oddball of the bunch that he'd really expected to want a colder climate had even elected to remain behind, with only Treecko and Charmander outright volunteering for the unknown. Crux's involvement changed that, though, and while they might now have been able to match many of their grunts for raw power that wasn't to say that a few of Ryusuke's old partners would be a welcome surprise. Brute strength wasn't everything. "Don't you sound rather confident?" Ryusuke started, a wary glance finding its way to the other trainer as they walked into the Pokemon Center - however, the blond wasn't entirely able to keep a hint of smugness out of his voice as he said that. Far as Ryusuke was aware they'd been on fairly equal footing back in Lacaille just from discussion alone, and chances were they probably would have been had he just focused on building a new team from scratch. Given who he'd pulled over from Hoenn, though, Ryusuke felt quite good about his chances. None of them were quite on Treecko's level but there was one in particular that was able to fight on relatively equal footing even in spite of a massive level disadvantage, and the blond already knew she was going to be a rather nasty surprise indeed for at least two of Damian's team. "We're fine, don't worry about us. Like I said, got my best back with me now." Ryusuke answered, casually walking past Damian and through the back door that led to the small, fenced off arena that served as the Center's practice grounds for visiting trainers. All things considered it was a rare sight in a city - a surprising amount of open space, and on top of that with visible dirt that wasn't paved over like much of the urban area was. Continuing across the white lined space Ryusuke didn't stop until he was standing in the small white box furthest from the Pokemon Center's door, granting Damian the closer one. "First move's yours." Ryusuke called out, turning around to face the other trainer and waiting to see which Pokemon would be sent out first.
