“I want someone to accompany me while I explore the Helos Ruins and observe some of the ancient inscriptions left behind.” Client: Archaeologist Henry Objective: Escort Archaeologist Henry through Helos Ruins. This can be repeated. Location: Helos Ruins Difficulty: ★★★ Reward: 12 EXP He didn’t know why, but he was having a real bad feeling about what was going to go down.
Sure, the request seemed innocent enough; now that he had a much more balanced team (at least he liked to think they were capable enough) it was time to take another crack at another quest… while he’d gotten word from their client, Archaeologist Henry that there was another coming along for the ride, Damian wasn’t too sure about how much danger was present in the Helos Ruins.
He’d heard a lot of weird, creepy stories about what lay deep in its depths—didn’t the client seem to have a rather reckless sense of danger accompanying him when he’d met up with him; a man who looked to be in his mid-forties, weighed down with a rather impressive-looking pack loaded with what he surmised was equipment the older man would need.
“Well hello there, lad,” the explorer began, holding out a hand for him to shake. “I specifically asked for two companions; the other will be here shortly. Thank you for taking on the request… I’m more than certain the Helos Ruins has much more than meets the eye. Don’t worry about anything, you’ll get something for your trouble,” the older man spoke while Damian took the hand and returned the gesture.
At the same time, though, he slowly opened his own aura sight; the better to get a look around. While the area was deserted for the most part, he couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling he was picking up on coming from the seemingly innocent-looking ruins that lay ahead of them.
He couldn’t help but feel the heebie-jeebies coming from deep within the Ruins themselves. Maybe he was wrong, though, but who knew?

We're painted red to fit right in
Seemed like work was never done sometimes.
Jobs were admittedly the last thing that was on Elinda's mind when she'd started the trek southwards from Nair. There was too much rattling around in her head for the blond to really focus on any on project, and thoughts kept wandering back to places that she didn't want them to go. When she'd arrived in Stellara Elinda had been expecting a fairly relaxed region where she could kick back and just enjoy her last real tour of a region as a trainer. It didn't seem like too much to ask for. One last hurrah, no strings attached, no additional problems to call her own.
After Tokai she probably should've known better.
Still, there was no rest for the weary, all the more so when you owed people favors and they decided to call one in. It was the same deal as usual - friend of a friend of a friend - but Elinda wasn't really in the mood for anything drawn out or overly complicated. It'd be difficult to come across another job as risky as the one from Tucana Rainforest a week or so ago as you didn't find too many Pokemon as powerful as Drapion in the wild, so with any luck the job would be a simply and easy one. Get in, escort the person she was getting paid to protect, get out and get paid... were it so easy.
At any rate, today was not a day for games.
Coming around the collapsed ruins of a small building along the ourskirts of the ruins it didn't take Elinda long to spot the client nor the second trainer that had been supposedly hired for the job. Quite a bit older than the last trainer she'd found herself partnered with but that didn't necessarily speak to experience - people seemed to be getting older and older these days when they started out as trainers now, and it wasn't like when she was a kid and simply assuming would usually be correct. Dressed as she was in her black shirt, jeans, travel boots and crimson red travel cloak, though, it didn't take long for Henry to notice her approaching.
"Over here, lass! I believe we're about ready!" The scholar called out, raising a hand to wave Elinda over before hurrying to scoop up his bag. For her part all the blond did was lazily wave a hand in acknowledgement as she continued to close the distance between herself and the two others in the clearing, pausing only to glance to the other trainer.
"Sure you're up for this? Know what we're doing?" Elinda said, hands casually dipping into her pockets to start slipping on a pair of black leather gloves. At first glance Elinda was very much inclined to believe her earlier assessment about him being a newer trainer. The kid's hands didn't look like they'd seen much in the way of hard weather or work, and at a glance his clothes looked a bit too nice in comparison to the usual threadbare clothing trainers tended to own, herself included. That said, though... the way he carried himself presented a rather odd duality. He definitely seemed to carry himself like a trainer would, but it conflicted with the earlier observations as well.

Maybe he was a little too nicely dressed?
Well, it’s not my fault I picked out what I can spare getting all muddied in case we need to run… he thought idly to himself once their other companion had arrived into view, quickly swooping and grabbing their client’s other equipment before asking him a question, to which he nodded in the affirmative.
“Get in, keep an eye out for whatever might be lurking in the shadows, keep our client safe, and once that’s done, we get out as fast as we can humanly manage, never mind if we get chased off by traps or wild Pokémon or what have you, as long as he makes it out alive of the ruins,” he answered, before turning his gaze towards the Helos Ruins proper once again.
“I’m just… getting a really creepy feeling coming from deep within the place. Maybe it might be my misplaced fears, but either way, let’s try not to upset whatever else is in there waiting to drop a nasty surprise on us,” Damian added, before looking over to the archaeologist. “I can take some of your stuff, if you don’t mind,” he offered—and half of the load was handed to him, which he quickly carried without too much trouble.
“Ruins always give off that vibe, you know. I don’t think we should worry too much,” their client continued, this time taking out a map and holding it open so that his companions could take a better look at it. “There’s much more rooms than the last time I went in here, so we’ll be heading there today. I’ll be taking notes, you’ll both be doing the defending. I trust your capabilities,” he continued, before leading the way down the path towards the entrance proper.
Somehow, I’m still getting a weird, creepy feeling coming from where we’re going to be headed today… but I’ll know it when I see it for myself… he continued to himself, following their client before giving a glance over to his companion. There was a certain air around her; and while he exactly couldn’t specifically tell what it was, he knew that she wasn’t one to be messed with.

We're painted red to fit right in
It was good to know that the other trainer was at least attentive. Small details were everything on jobs like this, and situational awareness went a long way towards making things much, much easier. As for the second bit spoken by the young man... Elinda really wasn't sure how to respond to that. She'd always been a proponent of trusting your gut since those feelings were usually the result of your brain picking up on things without you actually realizing it, but at the same time feelings could be very misleading if you started trying to assign meaning without knowing why. Superstition wasn't exactly something that Elinda put much stock in, either. Experience had always served her well, and unless someone could actually tell her why they might think they were feeling a certain way it wasn't the kind of warning that she was going to take all that seriously.
Still... it did make Elinda wonder. When was the last time she'd been in a place like this? Certainly not within recent memory. Was it the Ruins of Alph in Johto? When she'd visited Spear Pillar towards the end of her first regional tour in Sinnoh, back when she'd been relatively fresh - not even a teenager yet - just to prove to herself she could get there? Such locations were few and far between, and while there were a great many of them mentioned in local folklore only a rare few were readily accessible. The only one that had been remotely dangerous, though, had been a certain cave in Sevii, largely due to it being far too easy to get lost and eventually succumb to the elements with limited food and water.
"He's right on that count, at least. Places like this tend to attract daredevils and thieves, I doubt any traps are left intact after a few hundred years of people poking and prodding. I'm honestly more worried about the local Pokemon." Elinda said, seconding Henry's thoughts as her hand casually pulled a single Pokeball off her belt, the red and white orb's color faded and dulled with scuffs and scratches - clearly a well used one. She'd done enough research before taking on the job to be well aware of what kind of Pokemon tended to call this place home. Most would jump to the assumption that Ghost types were the most immediate danger, and they would've been dead wrong. At least according to the trainers Elinda had spoken to who tended to frequent the area. Oddly enough it hadn't surprised her at all to hear that Dragon types were the ones to look out for - they tended to prefer remote, sparsely populated regions as a matter of habit so it made a certain degree of sense. The bigger problem, though, was that they forced the other Pokemon in the area to directly compete for food, territory and shelter, and while they were rare anything able to contend with even a partially evolved Dragon wasn't something to be taken lightly.
"Never got your name, by the way. Know why I'm here but how'd you stumble onto this job?" Elinda continued, albeit this time addressing the younger trainer as she looked back to the man. As she did so the Pokeball she'd been holding would pop open with a press of a button, Metang flashing into existence next to the blond to hover ahead of her and next to Henry.

It’s not that, though… what if there’s a curse or two within the temple is what I’m worried about… if there’s something that action movies that involve a group of people entering a temple that looks as ominous as this is, it’s that there will always be fresh traps lying in wait… he thought to himself, looking up once again at the temple before hoping that what they said was wrong on all counts.
That, or I may be overthinking things again. But ever since I’ve become aware of these auric things, you can never be too careful… he privately mused, before nodding slightly at the pronouncement his female companion made.
A few moments later, and he was asked a question, one which deserved an honest answer at the very least. “Well, a friend of mine told me about this job. Name’s Ryusuke. Don’t know if you’ve heard of him, though,” he began, before reaching into his jacket pocket and wrapping his fingers around a particular shrunken marble.
The moment he caught sight of the Metang, though, he knew it was better to have at least one of his own companions out. Pulling his right hand out of his jacket, he popped the Moon Ball to full size, before pressing the button and watching as the flash of red light emerged from its depths, transforming into a Riolu that assumed a two-point landing upon emerging.
“As for me… name’s Damian,” he continued, introducing himself by his first name—before turning the question back on the original individual who’d asked it.
“And may I have the pleasure, at least, of knowing who I’ll be traveling with?” he asked a few moments later, before his Riolu looked at him curiously, and eventually turning his attention towards the ruins that lay in front of them.
Not a moment too soon did he catch sight of his companion looking right back at him; and his aura radiated the exact same concern that he’d been trying to keep to himself.
“I know… you can feel it, too?” he asked Alexei, before getting a nod in response. “Better be on the lookout, then,” he added a few moments later.

We're painted red to fit right in
That was not the answer Elinda was expecting, and had she any inkling that this man hailed from her home region the conversation they were having would have taken a very different turn. Violence wasn't something that she endorsed for its own sake or as a solution to problems if it could be avoided, but idle threats were not ones that Elinda would ever take lightly again. Few things left marks the way that kind of conflict did, or engendered the same degree of paranoia - and it was only the recognition of said paranoia that stopped Elinda from lashing out at a complete stranger. Instead all he got was perhaps the slightest flash of suspicion in the older trainer's eyes as he got a funny look from the older woman.
That didn't make any sense, though. The last Elinda had known of him Ryusuke was still touring the Hoenn region. She admittedly wasn't the best when it came to keeping in touch with family and it was entirely possible that he might be somewhere else or even in Stellara itself, but... it came as an awfully big coincidence that someone who just so happened to meet him would run into her as well. Then again the name itself wasn't all that uncommon in Johto, either, and for all Elinda knew it could be a complete stranger.
Regardless, it wasn't something that was going to get another, more immediate response. That was thin ice to tread upon, and until Elinda knew who this guy was it wasn't a topic she was going to discuss.
"Elinda." The blond responded, glancing back to Damian as he let out one of his own Pokemon in response to Metang. Nothing to be worried about on that front at least. Riolu weren't what most trainers would qualify as "weak" despite their unevolved state, and trained properly they could easily match their evolved kin in a fight - if not often surpass them with a far greater variety of moves to call upon. If things came to a fight, though, there wasn't a doubt in Elinda's mind that Metang would be capable of crushing the smaller Pokemon both metaphorically and literally.
Speaking of...
"Henry, where are we going and how long can we expect this to take? I was under the impression that this wasn't going to be a day trip, and the more details we have the easier this will be." Elinda continued, eyes shifting up to their employer as she spoke. With the last exchange between the two trainers Elinda suddenly found that she wasn't entirely comfortable spending the day with a relative stranger, and the sooner they finished their work here the sooner Elinda could collect her pay and continue south to Shaula.
