“I want someone to accompany me while I explore the Helos Ruins and observe some of the ancient inscriptions left behind.” Client: Archaeologist Henry Objective: Escort Archaeologist Henry through Helos Ruins. This can be repeated. Location: Helos Ruins Difficulty: ★★★ Reward: 12 EXP the things that you might like don't grow inside of me To say that the entire ordeal was sketchy was a bit of an understatement. "Right.... so tell me again, how was it that you found my name?" Ryusuke asked yet again, eyes on a small man likely only a hand taller than the blond himself was. Dressed in what appeared to be khaki everything and with a backpack that had to be a good portion of his own weight set aside the road, Ryusuke didn't have much reason to doubt Henry's claimed profession. The blond did his research whenever he could with new people, and on finding a job offer left in his email's inbox the first thing Ryusuke had done was run down Henry's name and professional history. What bothered Ryusuke, though, was the fact that the guy had sent it specifically to him despite the fact that they'd never met. "What? I thought I already..." Henry started, distractedly looking up from the massive bag he was sifting through before the question seemed to catch on. Ryusuke, dressed in his usual long sleeved black attire and seated on the other side of the road, back pressed to a low, broken stone wall that looked to once be part of a far larger structure, didn't blink or look away as he waited for a direct response. The initial thought that Henry had started with wasn't exactly a wrong one - it was a question that the blond had already repeatedly asked, not entirely sure what to make of the answer. "Mr Harlan, your last employer, is an associate. It might not have been what he specifically asked for but you completed the job he'd posted in Lacaille a few weeks back, and your name was brought up alongside another trainer who I wasn't able to contact. Apologies if I seem a bit distracted, just need to make sure I'm ready when the other two arrive." Henry said, offering the same answer as before if with somewhat enhanced detail. This wasn't at all what Ryusuke had bargained for when he'd taken up that job with Senri several weeks ago - at best Ryusuke had assumed it to be a one and done deal. Take care of the problem, get paid, get out, head to the next town and never look back. And frankly that had been fine with him. The job had just been meant to pay for some easy transportation to the next town and nothing more. At worst the blond had expected that to be the end of any future employment given Lacaille's environmental standards, with Mr. Harlan likely having to answer several pointed and uncomfortable questions surrounding the presence of a wild Grimer within his building's walls. The last thing Ryusuke had expected it to lead to was yet another job. Not that he could complain as money was money, but the convenience of it all had him nothing short of suspicious. As far as his experience went if something was too good to be true chances were it probably was. "... hold a sec. 'Others'? Thought you said you couldn't get a hold of Senri." Ryusuke suddenly said, catching onto the last words spoken by the archaeologist - words that caught Treecko's attention as well, the Wood Gecko's head popping up the sunlit side of the stone wall to follow the other man as well. Whatever the answer was, though, Ryusuke wasn't getting it as Henry seemed to be absorbed into his own little world doing whatever he was with his backpack.

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] It had been ages since Oliver had done any type of request. He can recall a few from his previous adventures that hardly went according to plan. Plus, after a while, he and his friends just didn't have the time to complete them anymore. But with a new region to explore and new people to meet, Oliver thought that doing a few odd jobs here and there wasn't such a bad idea. Maybe the people were less crazy in this region.
Eventually, Oliver departed from the port city and found himself in the Pokemon Center. It wasn't long before he stumbled upon a simple escort request. And it was posted somewhat recently, which was a good sign. It was also at an area that Oliver had a large interest in. It was in Helos Ruins, a place that piqued Oliver's interest. He was a researcher at heart after all, and unexplored ruins was exactly the place he wanted to go. There might be artifacts down there, or long lost Pokemon remains. Pokemon fossils, vases, even small dolls could be interesting. Oliver's researcher mind was thinking of the multiple possibilities and things he could discover in the ruins.
He called up the number and it wasn't long before he got a reply back. A vague reply, but a reply nonetheless. If Oliver had learned anything from past experiences, it was to air on the side of caution. Eventually, he made it to the meet up spot. The person who requested the escort, Henry, was already there, with another Trainer by the looks of it. The boy was short and had a prosthetic arm, possibly a leg too, but Oliver couldn't tell completely.
Oliver approached carefully from Henry's side, glancing up at the other boy and nodding in greeting. "Uh... hi. You're the one who wanted the escort to the next city, right...? The man scrounging around in his backpack suddenly looked up, and clapped his hands together.
"Ahh yes. Perfect. We are waiting on one more Trainer before we head out. Please, take this time to get to know each other. I have a couple of more preparations to take care of, so don't mind me."
He blinked and awkwardly nodded, looking to the other boy and waving slightly. "Uh, hello. My name's Oliver, and you would be...?"

After the job in Lacaille, Honoka got an email a few days later. Apparently the professor had passed on her name to a colleague of his who was in need of some help. While the Helos Ruins were a little out of her way, she was always up for exploring, and she had to get there eventually anyway. So she'd responded to the email, saying that she'd take the job. She was told there were two others, but no one gave her any names, so she figured it'd be the same kind of situation as with Elinda. She just hoped this went as smooth as that did. How hard could an escort be, right? Dig up some rocks, maybe some bones or fossils, get back in time for supper. She was just coming up on the other members, riding along her Dratini's back. The large Pokemon had carried her out to the meeting place, being stubborn as usual. She'd complied to basically shut him up, much as she loved him. The other two were, from what she could tell, taller than her, and the one with the orange-brown hair looked older than either of them. They pulled up, and Honoka stepped down, tall boots clacking lightly on the ground. "Ah good, you're all here. Just about ready, why don't you finish introducing yourselves and then we'll get going."Honoka smiled over at the other two trainers in greeting. The older of the two looked at them a little awkwardly. Honoka waved to him with a little hi of her own, having just caught his greeting to the other blonde as she rolled up. He seemed a little surprised, almost, that there were other trainers here. Wasn't too surprising, many trainers tended to be more solitary than not. The other one, though, he looked....oddly familiar. There some something about him that Honoka could swear she's seen before but she couldn't place it for the life of her. Maybe it was the hair color, or the eye color, or something. Either way. "Hey. Hope I'm not too late. I'm Honoka." She approached the other trainers, hand out in offering of greeting. "It's nice to meet both of you, I hope we can work well together." the things that you might like don't grow inside of me "Ryusuke." The blond said, bluntly replying to the second trainer he almost didn't even see approaching from beside Henry. Under different circumstances Ryusuke probably would have been a lot more open and likely far more friendly but the sheer convenience of the entire situation alongside the additional surprises simply didn't sit well with him. He tended to like if not outright prefer knowing what was going to happen in advance. It allowed for planning first and foremost, and for contingencies to be put in place if something went wrong. All of it was only made worse by the fact that Ryusuke knew next to nothing about the people he was supposed to be working with on this. Social interaction had never been a notable strength or skill her was really proficient in, and having at least an inkling of who he was speaking to tended to make it at least a bit easier. It wasn't helped that Ryusuke first and more stubborn instincts were to immediately defy Henry's request for introductions after springing the surprise of additional trainers on him, the last of which would show up a minute later atop a Dratini. "Yeah, yeah. Likewise. We good to go, then?" Ryusuke started, replying to the new trainer before directing the next question towards Henry as he stood up - pulling his red coat off from where it had been draped over the wall, Treecko followed only a moment later as the Wood Gecko leapt from the wall to the blond's shoulder. Seemingly taken aback at Ryusuke's abruptness, Henry frowned for a moment as he finished fiddling with his backpack, glancing to the other two trainers present before speaking again. "Would any of you like a reminder as to what we're doing and where we're going? I've a map present if it'll help at all, the ruins can be quite extensive." Henry said, holding up a tablet as he glanced between the two new arrivals.

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] The shorter, blonde boy seemed uninterested in Oliver and the new arrival, Honoka. At least she seemed a bit more friendly. It was going to be 50/50 on whether or not the three of them worked together. It was always rough working with complete strangers, he was used to working with his own friends when doing requests like this. Hopefully, one of the other two would take the lead, because Oliver wasn't comfortable taking up that role.
"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too, Ryusuke, Honoka. Looking forward to working with you two." Oliver replied. From first glance, it looked like he was the oldest out of the three. And he might be the least confident out of the three too, from his first observations at least. He opted to sit back and observe for the meantime while Henry talked.
"Would any of you like a reminder as to what we're doing and where we're going? I've a map present if it'll help at all, the ruins can be quite extensive."
"We're exploring the ruins while you do some research, right?" Oliver asked, hoping to get clarification. Henry nodded in response and closed his tablet, shoving it under his arm and motioning for the group to follow him towards the ruins. Oliver followed behind, looking at his own phone to pull up some basic information about the ruins himself.
"Old remnants of a pass civilization that has a lot of historical value... small houses are leftover... some towers. Wow, this ruin sounds like it has a lot of hidden information leftover. Maybe some old transcriptions are in the towers, or maybe some secret left behind in one of the houses." Oliver started to ramble on and on. His face was stuck to his phone screen, looking through various articles and pictures of the ruins they were heading to. If people didn't know better, they would have thought he was more excited about the exploration than Henry was.

Well the other blonde, Ryusuke, didn't seem too terribly friendly. More business than anything, really. Whereas the other, Oliver, seemed more so, albeit kind of...shy? At least, from first glance, both of them seemed up to the challenge. The one had a Treecko which, to her, was pretty neat. They were handy Pokemon that could do a variety of things depending on the trainer. The other didn't seem to have a Pokemon out yet, but she doubted he'd be here if he didn't have something. He sounded like the more knowledgeable of the three about the ruins, which on its own could turn out to be pretty useful. Honoka gave Henry a reassuring grin. "I'm good. I've my Nav and my Pokemon, and you have the three of us and the map. It should be fine."Since none of them seemed interested in looking at the map, Henry started off right away toward the ruins. Oliver was pulling up facts as they went, which were actually pretty interesting. "What else does it say about the ruins?" Honoka was following in the middle of the group, so she had to peek around Oliver's shoulder a bit to get a glimpse of what he was reading. She was curious about what else could be found in the ruins here. Maybe they'd find some kind of evolutionary stone, or a hidden treasure, or something else. She'd pull away, waiting for his answer, and ask Henry a question in the meantime. "So, what are you researching out here? It's got to be something pretty interesting if you need an escort to get out here safely." She was curious about that, too. Her email hadn't said anything about that, just that he needed an escort. There hadn't been a ton of information in it at all, frankly. the things that you might like don't grow inside of me Gloved hand coming up to pat away the dust that had accumulated on his coat while it'd been hanging over the stone wall, Ryusuke didn't immediately speak or directly reply again as Oliver did. Social pleasantries had never really been one of his strong points, and that awkward feeling of never knowing what to say or who you were speaking to was ever present when it was a group that you'd been forcibly stuck with by circumstance rather than by choice. The blond wasn't doubtful of the idea that they were probably good people, that wasn't in question, but it was probably going to be easier for everyone if he just kept his mouth shut. Something that sounded like it was going to be made all that much easier as Oliver and Honoka certainly seemed to be getting along. If they were going to just focus on their own conversation and the job at hand it meant keeping that awkwardness out of the equation, not to mention the bad mood from earlier that was still lingering. Surprises were never something that Ryusuke particularly cared for. From the sound of it, though, that's exactly why they were there to begin with. As Oliver began listing off things from his phone it frankly just served to remind Ryusuke of the fact that they really had no idea what was in these ruins. Lost of overgrown and collapsed buildings, sure, but he'd done his research before picking up the job. Helos Ruins weren't just known for their historical value - Dragon types were also known to call the place home, and those tended to be among the stronger Pokemon you could encounter in the wild by default. That was to say nothing of the other wild Pokemon that were able to compete with such powerful creatures on an even playing field for food, shelter and territory. "Ah, no. The intent wasn't to stay out here for long, it was just to retrieve some images of carvings and reliefs my team had found during our last visit. The native inhabitants unfortunately cut our work short before we were able to procure copies of what was needed to complete what we were doing, but that's why the three of you have been hired. Plan should be to get there, snap a few photos and get out." Henry continued, looking back to Honoka as he answered her question. Something that at least put Ryusuke at ease - it might've only been a plan and those rarely ever survived implementation but it was something concrete, at least. Shaking his coat once to unfurl it the blond trainer would begin to pull it back on, Treecko jumping down to the ground to free up his partner's shoulder in the process. Not wishing to be in a place where he could easily be stepped on the Wood Gecko would quickly scuttle up one of the half collapsed buildings as they passed by, emerging into the sunlit remains of its roof and with a clear view of the group below as they continued deeper into the ruins.

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] Oliver was unaware of Honoka's presence right above his shoulder and kept scrolling on his phone. Another article detailed about the various Pokemon that lived in the area. Some were hostile, some were peaceful. It also depended on the time of day, weather, time of year, etc. "There's some information about the civilization that the ruins used to be, but not much is known about it. They just have the estimated time period and stuff. Some of the items in the houses have gone untouched for centuries. It's very interesting." Oliver said. He jumped slightly when he finally noticed Honoka was hovering over his shoulder, catching her just before she pulled away to ask Henry what they were researching.
As Henry explained his purpose, the group started to head further into the ruins. They were past the entrance and started to head into the mid part of the ruins. The houses were run down and overrun with vegetation, some of the doors were sealed shut and the windows were far too small for a human to climb through. There were various items inside each house, Oliver could make out a few vases here and there, even some old paper documents were plastered against the walls. But Henry seemed to have no interest in them, he'd probably seen them before. If only Oliver had the time. Maybe he'd come back here after the escort mission was finished.
Oliver looked up at the pillars that towered over them, walking backwards at one point to look at the intricate inscriptions on one. "This place is amazing... how far have you guys explored this place?" He asked, turning himself around to walk straight again. Henry smirked and brought up his tablet, showing the group some of the photos he had taken before. They ranged from the houses in the front to the pillars the group just passed. "Only about halfway through. Right now, we're working on going further into the ruins. We've had a few set backs due to the wild Pokemon around here, which is why I enlisted the help of you three. Eventually, we want to head into the depths of the ruins and explore those."
Their employer pointed forward towards one of the entrances to a old temple. Oliver stopped in front of it, a few feet behind the group and looked up. The temple's pillars were broken into halves, each toppled on top of each other in front of the entrance, but somehow didn't block the archway at all. The exterior was off white, and was overgrown with grass and weeds. There was a statue of something that stood in the middle of the temple, but it was so broken and disfigured, it was hard to tell if it was a Pokemon or a person.
"This is the temple that I wanted to take pictures of. There's a few inscriptions inside and around the back of the temple. If you two of you would come with me inside while one stays outside to guard, that would be ideal. This was where we had our little setbacks, so I'd like to have a person out here to keep an eye out for wild Pokemon." Henry said, turning around to face the group. Oliver was eager to step behind Henry, silently volunteering himself as one of the two that would go inside. He looked between the other two and smiled sheepishly, realizing he hardly gave the others a choice. "Er... who else is coming inside with us then?"

So their client, Henry, was working on the same things that Oliver was talking about, from what she was understanding. Honoka found herself looking around as they passed through the ruins. There were things here that none of them knew about, that may have gone forgotten until someone like Henry dug it up again. With or without actual digging. As they walked past the ruined living spaces, Honoka could see glimpses through windows and cracked doors bits and pieces of the people who may have lived there once, however long ago. It had to have been a while, seeing as the history of this place was mostly unknown. She found herself gawking in awe along with Oliver as they passed by and under pillars with inscriptions and decorations. "I have to agree. This place is incredible. Its so old, but it's like you can almost see people still walking the streets and living here. How old is this place?" Her question would be directed at Henry as they kept on, heading toward some old temple like structure. She wasn't sure if Henry had missed her question or not, as he didn't answer, instead opting to give them instructions on the task at hand. He wanted two inside and one to stay outside, likely to watch for any stray Pokemon. Oliver seemed keen to go inside, not that she blamed him. Honoka looked over at Ryusuke and shrugged. "I can stay out here if you want to go inside," she offered. "Or you can stay out here if you want. I'm fine with either. I'm not to worried about wild Pokemon, I can handle my own." He'd been mostly quiet so far, so she wasn't sure which he was more keen on doing. She'd be happy to stay indoors and explore with Oliver and Henry, or stay out here and examine the front area of the temple and watch for dangers from the outside. For all they knew, something was sleeping inside the temple and that would be more dangerous. She was equipped to deal with either option, and both would be pretty interesting in its own way. the things that you might like don't grow inside of me Despite his earlier displeasure with unexpected developments Ryusuke found himself relaxing slightly as the extent of the job was revealed to not be quite as much as he'd originally assumed. The job offer hand explained everything that Henry just relayed to Oliver and it was good to know that there weren't any other details that the scholar had been keeping to himself. More to the point it almost sounded like three trainers were overkill for what amounted to a simple guided tour - pictures didn't take more than a few moments to snap, and even if you had a great many to take that was only a few minutes out of the day. Henry seemed to realize that trying to fight against the natural order here wasn't going to work and had come prepared to avoid that problem entirely. All ideas Ryusuke could very much get behind as it meant less opportunity for things to go horribly wrong. Hell, it sounded like the hardest part of the job was already nearly finished as a decaying stone temple came into view, with their employer identifying it as their destination. The one and only bit that brought a small frown to the teen's face was the suggestion that the group split up, but at this point that was a minor detail. "I'm fine with waiting outside, go ahead. Pretty sure we're not going to want my Pokemon in an enclosed space if a fight does break out, anyways." Ryusuke answered, glancing to Oliver's rather telegraphed display of unguarded enthusiasm before answering Honoka's question. Small, dark places had never been something Ryusuke was all that comfortable with, and he didn't think the comment concerning his Pokemon was wrong, either. He doubted that Henry would take all that kindly to fire and corrosive substances anywhere near the relics, carvings and wall paintings the man had come all this way for, and if a fight broke out it wasn't like they were going to prioritize the safety of such things over their own well being. Ryusuke wasn't going to ask them to, either - best that they remain out in the open area where any potential problem could be handled without such worries. "Don't suppose either of you guys have a PokeNav? Gear? 'etch?" Ryusuke continued, moving forward to sit himself down against the archway outside the temple door and pulling out his own PokeNav as he listed the devices off. If they were going to find themselves separated and without a line of sight... well, it didn't seem like a good idea without at least some way to contact one another. All the more important if something did come up and Henry somehow wound up in a position where he needed help. "Dunno about you guys but think we all know how these movies end, seems like a good idea if any one of us ends up needing help later." Ryusuke continued, thumbing the device on and flicking over to the contacts screen.

[attr="class","bg"] [attr="class","bodybackground"] [attr="class","textbox"] Oliver highly doubted that they would end up like some unfortunate protagonists in a adventure movie, but Ryusuke did have a point. It was best to stay in contact with each other just in case something happened. He didn't have a PokeNav or anything of the sort, so he took out his phone and offered his phone number instead. Once the contact information was given, Henry clapped his hands and motioned towards the depths of the ruins.
"Well then, shall we? Oliver, Honoka, with me."
Once deeper into the ruins, it was easy to see how old the place was. The walls were crumbling and more cracks were present. There were weird inscriptions on the walls, some of Pokemon, others looked like words. While Henry lead the way, Oliver lagged a bit behind and looked around. If given the time, he'd come back and inspect it more. There'd be another time for that, and he reluctantly caught up with Henry and Honoka.
It took about ten minutes for them to reach the back of the ruins. It was darker and more damp, it had a much different atmosphere than outside. But they finally found what Henry was looking for. The entire wall was covered in paint, depicting some sort of scene. It was hard to tell what was going on, the paint had faded and the cracks in the wall broke the scene in half almost. However, it was clear to see that it was showing some sort of scene between Pokemon and humans. Whether that was a friendly scene or not was hard to tell.
Henry got right to work, taking out his tablet and camera and scanning the entire wall. "This is going to take a couple of minutes, so feel free to look around the surrounding area." He said before becoming absorbed in his work.
Oliver didn't argue and looked over to Honoka, pointing to the edge of the ruins. "I'll be right around here if you need me. But it doesn't seem like there's many Pokemon down here. We should be safe for the meantime." With that said, Oliver took a couple of steps away from the two and started looking at some inscriptions on the pillars. Hopefully, this was going to be uneventful and quick. Hopefully.

She shrugged. She was fine either way, so she was ok with going inside if he wanted to stay out here. "Oh, yeah, I have a 'Nav. Good idea." She'd give him her Nav info so they could keep in touch in the ruins, just in case something happened and they were out of yelling distance. She chuckled at his horror movie reference. He wasn't wrong, but this also wasn't a horror movie, though the parallels were definitely amusing. "Well then, shall we? Oliver, Honoka, with me." With Henry calling for them to follow, Honoka went into the ruins of the temple with Oliver and their client. She could understand why they would be researching it. AS she followed Henry, her eyes were glued to the walls, taking in strange images and markings. Some she thought she might understand, others she had no idea about. It was obvious there were pokemon back when the temple was built. Why else would they write about them here? "How big is this temple? Wow." she exclaimed. It took them considerable time to walk through the building and to the back of the area. When they found the wall they were looking for, Honoka was a little in awe. Aside from some of the images missing and the paint being faded, the colors were still bright and clear enough in what remained to see what it was talking about. Though, she didn't know what that was. "What is this? What's it talking about?" She's approach beside Henry as he began working, staring at the painting for a few moments, awaiting an answer. None came, Henry was so caught up in her work. So she took his advice and began to look around, curious about what else was out here. She nodded to Oliver in response as he mentioned where he would be. She would go to a different side, having spied some interesting vegetation that she'd wanted to check out. There were similar plants to what she'd once gathered for a researcher of a different kind, and she recognized them. It was a ways off from Tucana though, but she wondered idly to herself the merits of braving the rainforest versus taking the time to travel here. The professor had seemed very rushed in everything he did, so she doubted he would have taken the time to come here, whether he knew they were here or not. It was an interesting thought, though, nonetheless. She looked up to see more carving on the wall above the vegetation here too. It seemed to be climbing up the wall into the dark corners, not minding the damp or lack of light. The vines that had crawled up the wall were obscuring anything written there, and they were clinging too tightly to be removed without cutters. She fingered one of the leaves, and let out a loud shriek as something flew out from them at her. Much to her embarrassment, it was just a couple of grumpy Metapod who had swung down from higher up. She grinned sheepishly back at Henry and Oliver. "Sorry. Nothing to worry about, just a jump scare."MADE BY VEL OF GS
