IT'S A NEW WORLD, A NEW START Okay, it was time to expand her team. How was Kari supposed to defend herself without a team of strong and ferocious Pokemon? She had Rex, but he was annoying at best. At worst, he would create enemies for her. So what better place to search for Pokemon that a dark, creepy forest? It was a forest similar to this, maybe even this one exactly, through which her father's Mightyena had chased her. She shuddered at the thought, and Rex looked up at her with an expression of concern. She smiled down at the dinosaur and continued walking. Kari's timid eyes chased everything that moved, from the rustling leaves in the canopy to the shifting of the underbrush. Rex walked casually beside her, for once not storming off to chase whatever happened to be hiding just out of sight. She was relieved for that. It would be a little difficult to capture Pokemon if her only teammate was nowhere to be found. She had heard tale that some Pokemon could be befriended or coerced into joining her, but she highly doubted her bribing skills. She didn't exactly have much to offer. No, her best bet was to knock out whatever Pokemon she found as quickly as possible. It would have to obey her once she caught it, right? She looked down at Rex, who was snapping at a flowing piece of grass on the ground. No, I guess they don't, she thought. Footsteps behind her made Kari's folded ears twitch. She tugged her beanie down as it threatened to fall off, but, for once, she was grateful for her deformity. "Get ready, Rex," she said quietly, waving her hand to get the Tyrunt's attention. Rex abandoned the grass he was eating and looked up at Kari, waiting for instructions. As the footsteps grew closer, Kari whipped around, pointing at whatever was behind her. "Aha!" she cried out, hoping to startle the mysterious being but quickly realizing that it might just as quickly run away. @staff ✖ spawn #1

IT'S A NEW WORLD, A NEW START Kari screamed and the Murkrow behind her kawed in surprise as they realized they were now face-to-face, much closer than Kari had initially anticipated. Both the girl and the bird jumped back, staring at each other. A low growl began in Rex's throat and he kicked at the ground, wanting to launch into battle. But Kari held onto him, waiting. She watched the Murkrow as it preened its feathers, obviously embarrassed by the sudden interaction. He then pecked at the ground, tugging at a strand of grass and looking around, as if waiting for something. Rex, for one, was tired of waiting, and charged at the Murkrow as Kari flailed about, trying to grab onto him. Rex snapped at the Murkrow with his strong jaws as the bird took flight, hovering just out of reach. Kari looked closer and saw that one of the Murkrow's feet was curled, almost like it was injured. But Rex kept jumping at it, trying to grab onto his feathers and pull them out. "Rex! Stop! He's hurt!" But the dinosaur ignored his trainer, his pride interfering with his commands. Why didn't it fly away? Why was it insisting on sticking around? Did it want Kari to help it? Her face scrunching in annoyance, Kari lunged at Rex, knocking her Pokemon over. "Would you stop it?" she said angrily as she rose to her feet. Rex stared at her incredulously before glaring at the Murkrow. Kari reached out her hands, beckoning the bird to come to her. Hesitantly, the Murkrow land on her arm, sticking his injured foot out and looking at Kari expectantly. Confused, Kari touched the Murkrow's talon and a small object dropped into her palm. She brought it close to her face to examine it - an ordinary coin, just someone's loose change. However, the coin looked brand new; it was incredibly shiny and in perfect condition. ”Pretty,” Kari murmured, staring at it in awe. ”Is this for me?” The Murkrow nodded, nudging her hand with his beak. Suddenly Rex headbutted the Murkrow right off of Kari’s arm. The girl felt the shock reverberate up her arm, and she cried out in pain. The Murkrow flapped to the ground and turned to face the Tyrunt, eyes hard and ready to fight. Kari sighed and stepped out of the way, nursing her arm as the two Pokemon faced off against each other. Rex once again charged at the Murkrow, his jaws snapping and his head lowered. The Murkrow dodged easily, taking flight and causing Rex to run into a tree just behind them. The Tyrunt shook his head furiously, clearly stunned from the impact. As he turned around, the Murkrow was there, furiously pecking at the stunned Tyrunt. Rex cried out in fury and clamped his powerful jaws around the Murkrow’s beak, flinging it around like a ragdoll. He finally flung the Murkrow into the tree, after which the bird sank to the ground, unmoving. Kari rushed to pick up the fainted bird, cradling it in her arms. She fished a Pokeball out of her pocket and tapped the bird with it. It disappeared inside and the ball began shaking in her hand. She hoped that he would stay inside so she could get him to a Pokemon Center. @staff ✖ spawn #1 Murkrow, despite his reputation of being “unlucky”, is actually a very sweet little bird. He loves shiny or otherwise pretty objects and will store any treasures in his nest – which is also made out of collected objects. However, Murkrow doesn’t hoard these items; he waits for passersby to stumble by his nest and gives the treasures out freely to those he deems worthy of them. It is thought that this Murkrow’s friendly nature comes from the rumors that his kind cause bad luck. He gives away his treasures as gifts to prove that he is worthy of being loved. Murkrow craves attention and longs for someone to care for him, so he sits in his nest waiting or goes looking for treasures, hoping to find a trainer that will see him as a treasure.

SHOOT! IT WAS SO CLOSE TOO! You're almost there. I think it would be great if you could add 1 or 2 more paragraphs to this post that brings attention to Murkrow's personality before I can accept. If you can do that, then it'd definitely be a confirmed catch.

OOC: Due to new catching rules, it is assumed that Kari caught the Murkrow. IT'S A NEW WORLD, A NEW START Kari watched with frantic eyes as the Pokeball wibbled and wobbled in her hand, blinking slowly. Finally, it grew still, but the girl continued to stare at it. Had she really just caught a Pokemon? It hadn't been at all the way she intended, but it was something. She tucked the ball into the pocket of her pants and looked around, trying to figure out the fastest way out of the forest. Except...she couldn't think of any way out of the forest. She was lost. Glaring down at Rex, she said angrily, "This is all your fault! Why can't you just behave?" But Rex just huffed at her, seemingly oblivious to her anger. He was quite pleased with himself, having taken down the pesky bird. Kari should be thanking him. Kari sighed, her hand hovering over the ball in her pocket. "Come on," she said reluctantly. "We need to find a way out of here."The girl began walking back the way she assumed she started, silence stretching between her and Rex. All the could be heard was the crunch of Kari's feet against the dusty ground and the gentle tittering of nature. Fear began to set in. What if she couldn't find her way back? What if she ran into some powerful Pokemon that Rex couldn't defeat? What if the Mightyena found her? No. No. She couldn't think like that or she would surely panic. But the further she walked, she more certain she became that she would never find her way out. She thought of her new Murkrow, passed out in his Pokeball. He would know the way out, but she couldn't call on him just yet. It never occurred to her to use one of the potions sitting in her bag. No, she was far beyond any sort of logic now. "We're lost!" she whined, her voice echoing into nothingness. Rex, Tyrunt (level 5) - Tail Whip, Tackle, Poison Fang Draco, Murkrow (level 3) - Peck, Astonish @open ✖ derp

---ZETSUMEI KŌKUSEKI--- "You cannot appreciate the light without understanding the cold embrace of the darkness first." "The stars look so beautiful tonight.”Zetsumei couldn’t remember how long he had been sitting there, hypnotized by the sparkling orbs in the night sky, but all he knew was that they radiated a warm and calming presence, despite being an infinite miles away. “Heh, you and your rose-tinted glasses, Heiko....” Zetsumei quipped as he rolled his gaze toward the dark-haired woman, who sat next to him with her knees tucked to her chest and her arms folded across them. There felt like there was an unfathomable nothingness that loomed in the distance around them, and that only him, Heiko, and the glistening celestial bodies existed at this very moment... but honestly, he didn’t care, for everything he ever wanted was right here with him. “Sigh, you have to remain positive, egg-head.” Heiko closed her eyes and her mind fantasized, the same smile that weakened the gangster’s hardened exterior remaining plastered on her face. “I don’t want to keep living this dangerous life... I just want to run away and be… normal, y’know?” Zetsumei was never one to truly contemplate such a future until he met Heiko, having adapted and coming to find joy in the criminal lifestyle, but deep inside he knew her dreams weren’t foolish. The more he came to fall in love with her, the more he wanted to protect her, and he couldn’t do that and still be the same terrorizing and reckless mobster he's always been. “Gah, gimme a break,” Zetsumei retorted, his stubbornness rearing its ugly face yet again. “I mean, just think about it… we were born into this world, raised by it, molded by it. This IS our ‘normal’...” And Zetsumei actually believed that. However, after returning his sight back toward the night sky, he was reminded of that faint light within that resonated with Heiko's own, and although he felt they were dreaming of a life that was inevitably futile, he didn’t mind entertaining the thought every once and a while. “...but y'know, maybe, SOMEHOW, it's possible that things could be different.”“...We’re lost.” The hopeful ambience shattered with Heiko’s suddenly uncharacteristic comment. “...Huh? Where’d da hell that come from?”, Zetsumei said puzzled, raising an eyebrow as he peered at Heiko, who was staring forward with a terrifyingly blank expression. “We’re lost!” She repeated, her tone strangely becoming more hysteric and adolescent this time around. The illusionary darkness that surrounded them rapidly began to approach as Zetsumei gave his ill-stricken lover several nudges, attempting to disable whatever spell that had overtaken her, but it was useless. “We’re lost!” Zetsumei begrudgingly and slowly opened his eyes as he squinted in response to the beams of sunlight that pierced through the forest’s thick canopy of tree leaves. For a couple seconds, he wondered what had just happened to Heiko, but eventually it became obvious that he was dreaming the entire time. Merely a couple meters away, he finally noticed the source of his disturbance, a dainty girl with lilac-colored hair and a spiky, dinosaur-like Pokémon. Afflicted with grogginess and a headache after drinking heavily the night before, Zetsumei carelessly elevated himself up from the large branch that he had fallen asleep on, as a Poké Ball gracefully slipped from his pocket and plunged to the ground below. Unfortunately, the Poké Ball managed to land directly on the release button, the red energy summoning forth a fiery, rage-driven creature. “CYNDAQUILLLLLL!” Nuka screamed as she stretched her arms outwards as far as she could reach, a brilliant flame spewing from the crevices on her back. “Eugh, son of a bitch…” Zetsumei grunted, too annoyed at the moment to be dealing with Nuka’s craziness. Directly in her field of vision, Nuka growled as she glared at the girl and her Pokémon, revving her left foot against the dirt as if she was preparing to rocket towards them. Zetsumei sighed, as he was not fully conscious yet to stop whatever was about to happen, and he knew all hell was about to break loose. =============================================

IT'S A NEW WORLD, A NEW START The young girl's eyes began to well up with tears at the thought of never finding her way out of the forest. She wiped them away furiously, refusing to cry. Crying was for babies, and it would get her nowhere. Rex looked up at her, a guilty expression on his face. He gently headbutted his trainer, letting his large head rest against her side. He hated to see Kari cry. Kari stood there for a moment, trying to get her bearings. Her hand went to the pocket of her pants, where the Pokeball within protruded slightly. Then she looked at the coin still in her hand. She had to find a way out, she decided. She needed to get the poor nice Murkrow to a Pokemon Center. Taking a deep breath, she clenched her fist around the coin and took a step forward. As soon as she did, something fell from the trees. A Pokeball hit the ground and broke up, a flash of red energy revealing a small figure. Frankly, it was adorable. Kari didn't know what the Pokemon was called, but it was so cute. She was about to reach forward to pat it on the head when the Cyndaquil flared to life, looking very angry and aggressive. Kari stumbled backwards, avoiding the Pokemon's fiery spine and wondering what on earth she had down to provoke it. Rex, on the other hand, rushed forward, baring his fangs and growling deeply. He snapped his jaws menacingly. ("You want a tussle, I'll give you one,") he warned. Rex, Tyrunt (level 5) - Tail Whip, Tackle, Poison Fang Draco, Murkrow (level 3) - Peck, Astonish

---ZETSUMEI KŌKUSEKI--- "You cannot appreciate the light without understanding the cold embrace of the darkness first." Nuka huffed and puffed as her fiery stare locked with the enemy Tyrunt's own threatening glare. Due to her insufferable behavior, Nuka had barely seen the outside of her Poké Ball since her capture recently, which unbeknownst to Zetsumei was counter-intuitive since her rage would just continue to grow exponentially the longer he kept her in captivity. Thus, it went without saying that the Cyndaquil was ready to throw the fisticuffs with everything and anything in sight, and the dinosaur-like Pokémon and it's owner was her first targets. ("Rawwwrrrrr!") the Cyndaquil howled despite it's youthful undertone, forewarning to her opposition that she was serious business, in spite of being nothing more than just a child. She had never encountered the Tyrunt species before, but not even it's intimidating (and quite frankly, slightly cute) appearance could overwhelm her. ("Bring it on, fathead! I'm not scared of you!") Descended to a quadrupedal stance, the fire on her back flared once more as she was prepared to kick off like a rocket at any second. Meanwhile, Zetsumei simply yawned, rubbed his eyes and tried to make out what was happening down on the ground, the hangover momentarily slowing his mental functionality and decreasing his ability to give a damn. Hostile towards the world, Nuka couldn't even get along with her own teammates, but somehow Zetsumei still believed she could be a valuable minion. Hell, you could say that one of her positive traits is that she makes an excellent sparring partner, especially for a brutalist like Zetsumei. Hot-tempered to get the brawl started, Nuka hastily shot forward toward the Tyrunt headfirst, attempting to smash her skull into the Tyrunt without hesitation 1. =============================================

IT'S A NEW WORLD, A NEW START Oh, no. This was not good. Not good at all. Kari watched in horror as the Pokemon squared up against each other. A fight was inevitable, but Kari edged forward, speaking softly to Rex. "C'mon, buddy, let's just go. Leave it alone," she pleaded. But Rex was beyond listening. This was what he had been waiting for. The Murkrow had been an appetizer to this main course. The small dinosaur kicked at the dirt beneath his feet, raring to go. Kari whimpered and looked around helplessly for the Cyndaquil's trainer, hoping to deescalate the battle before it began. But the battle had already begun as the Cyndaquil charged at Rex. He smiled a toothy grin, without the slightest care that his opponent was attacking first. He could stand the hit. He didn't bother to try to dodge. Rex always faced his challenges head-on, literally. The tiny dino lowered his head and charged at the Cyndaquil as well. They would just have to see whose skull was stronger. As the fight ensued, Kari covered her eyes with her hands, peaking through her fingers as Rex completely disobeyed her. Again. How was she ever going to be a decent trainer if her partner refused to listen. "Rex, please stop," she moaned. Rex took damage! Rex used Tackle! ---ZETSUMEI KŌKUSEKI--- "You cannot appreciate the light without understanding the cold embrace of the darkness first." Blinded by her unreasonable fury, Nuka kept running forth until she finally collided with the Tyrunt, but instead of triumphantly sending the big-headed Pokémon backward with her charge, it felt as if she had slammed into a brick wall, the force knocking her tumbling back into the direction from which she came 1. Though the collision caused both of them to stagger, the Tyrunt unquestionably had the superior physicality for such a contest of might, stars dancing around Nuka’s head momentarily before she finally shook her head and regathered herself. A surprised expression bewitched her as her vision came back into focus, stupefied that the creature had stood in her way. (“Grrr… that actually hurt!...”), the Cyndaquil fumed, using her stubby little arm and hand to rub the wound. Surely, a somewhat sane person would have figured that attempting that repeatedly would be foolhardy, but for Nuka, that realization didn’t last long as she stopped treating the injury, a menacing grin creeping onto her face as her fangs manifested themselves yet again. You’d think that her following actions were a result of her suffering from some kind of concussion... but you’d be wrong; the fiery Pokémon was just naturally that crazy. A violent, blood-colored glow emanated from her eyes 2 as Nuka glared right into the pit of Rex’s soul. Lifting herself up onto her feet, the Cyndaquil revved her right foot against the ground once more, the amount of dirt that kicked behind her increasing with each one. Her master, who was still mustering enough of a damn to give prior to that moment, stuck a pinky finger into one of his ears and dug aggressively, which somehow disabled his befuddlement and opened his audio canals to hear Nuka roar for a second time. “Ehhhhh?... Who the heck are these dudes?”, he inquired to himself, deciding to remain unnoticed, curious to witness how the Cyndaquil would be able to cope without him after their previous training sessions. (“C’mon... again, again, again!”), Nuka tempted rabidly as she burst toward the Tyrunt headfirst 3 in a similar fashion to what she had just done a few moments ago. Unless the dinosaur ended up falling much further in the reverse direction than Nuka had, the distance between them would be much shorter than before, meaning their clash this time wouldn’t be as intense, but that didn’t matter to Nuka -- she was determined to overpower him regardless. =============================================
