ABNORMALITIES — As a morph, Kari has several distinct markings. She has Espurr ears that protrude from her messy hair, as well as a tail. Instead of fingernails, she has short, sharp claws.



In order to hide her morph features, Kari dresses in baggy clothes to obscure her tail and usually wears a dark beanie on her head to cover her ears. When she gets excited or scared, her ears tend to perk up, which typically shifts the hat or knocks it off entirely. Kari has an unusual disdain for shoes and is usually barefoot unless the terrain demands otherwise.

Kari is your typical young teenager. She is shy and awkward but has a big heart. She has high hopes for the future and a determination only found in children. There is still some hope left in her, despite the hardships she has faced. Having lived the sheltered life of a Team Crux brat, she has no real understanding of the outside world or the cruel realities of it. Her childlike innocence has begun to fray somewhat due to the betrayal of her father, she she maintains, a bit naively, that the world and people good and that she can find her place amongst them.

Despite her seemingly bright outlook on life, Kari lacks confidence due to her appearance. She feels like an outcast and suffers from a great deal of self-loathing because she is not like everyone else. She sees people look at her with surprised, confused, or even disgusted eyes, and it upsets her. More than anything in the world, she wants to belong and be accepted and feels that she can't due to the "monster" she has become.

When it comes to "fight or flight", Kari's first instinct will always be to flee. She is highly observant, having watched Team Crux members train with each other, but has no battling experience of her own. She is also highly suspicious of other trainers, fearful that any one of them could be a Team Crux member in hiding, ready to take her back to their hideout and submit her to more agonizing experiments. She is trying to blend in with her surroundings and act like a normal trainer, watching others in order to learn how to be a better trainer.


Kari's life started out simple, as most things do. She was raised solely by her father, having no memory of her mother who left shortly after she was born due to her husband's...interesting choice of career. In truth, Kari's father was a scientist for the infamous Team Crux and, after finding out what he was doing, left him, never to be heard from again. So Kari grew up mostly alone, comforted by her father's Pokemon more so than her father himself.

Kari never questioned her father's undertakings as a child. She got everything she wanted, so what was there to complain about? Her father was very loving when he was actually around. Her caretakers were wonderful. It was a child's paradise.

But things never stay simple for long.

The older Kari got, the more distant her father became. She began to notice pitying glances on the faces of her caretakers, but she never really understood why. Then the doctors came. At first the checkups were routine: blood tests, heart rate monitors, various poking and prodding. But soon they were injecting her with a variety of brightly-colored serums. Vaccines, they told her, for the compromised immune system she didn't know she had. Something felt wrong about the vaccines, but her father would never let anyone do anything to hurt her, right? Then her body began to change, and the doctors brushed that off as well, spouting the usual nonsense about puberty and womanhood. But puberty didn't involve growing a tail, Kari was certain.

Finally, tired of the lies, she snuck into her father's office, the one place in the compound she was strictly forbidden from entering. There, she found out what was really happening to her. Her father had led experiments in combining Kari's DNA with that of an Espurr. Kari was understandably horrified. Her father had betrayed her tiny trust, allowing and encouraging her transformation into a monster. Of course, by now, the changes had become most severe. Along with her tail, Kari had developed the tell-tale droopy ears of an Espurr and her fingernails hardened and curved into claws. It was then that Kari made the decision to no longer be a pawn in her father's games. She returned to her play room, stealing the Pokeball of her father's Tyrunt, and made a run for freedom. It didn't take long for her father to find out about her disappearance and made a futile attempt and reclaiming his daughter. Using the abilities she had obtained from the Espurr DNA coursing within her, she managed to elude the man she once called "father", disappearing into the Stellara region.

Being on her own has not been easy for the sheltered child. She had been smart enough to take a small amount of cash from her father's office before running away, but the funds ran out quickly, mostly due to Rex's voracious appetite. Kari began resorting to stealing to keep herself and her partner alive. In recent months, she has been attempting a more honest living through battling, but with a Pokemon that doesn't listen most of the time, she struggles to fit in. Her greatest fear is falling back into her father's hands, so she stays on the move, never staying in any one place for too long, trying her best to find her place in the world that burned her.

PERSONALITY — Rex grew up with Kari, and the two are very close. However, having belonged to Kari's father, Rex does not listen to Kari's commands, especially in battle. Instead of dodging or running when told, the brutish little dinosaur will simply attack others until either he or they are unconscious. Rex is a lover of fighting and likes to think of himself as being very powerful. When not in his Pokeball, he feels compelled to prove his strength and bravery by biting unsuspecting victims, much to Kari's dismay. Rex would not hesitate to protect Kari if she was in any real danger, but he was extremely loyal to Kari's father before being stolen, so it is unknown how he would react if the two ever confronted each other.
