Ugh. Talk about unfortunate timing. With most of their research done, Starling was eager to get back home. Not that they didn't enjoy a chance to travel, but... no, they didn't enjoy travel much at all. If they had their way, they would've spent the last week languishing back at their apartment in Cyngi. But no, they just had to go to Vega City on... unofficial business.
Not that they didn't appreciate Team Crux's continued funding. But by the gods was it ever exhausting to keep on top of both their own research as well as the various requests-that-were-not-really-requests that the officers were handing out.
To be honest, Starling wouldn't have minded heading out all the way to Vega if only they could make it back easily. But as it so happened, there was this long celebration of sorts going on at the same time, and transportation out of Vega City would be a nightmare. So here they were, stuck quite a ways from home, and forced to enjoy all this... excitement. Oh. How Starling could jump for joy. Except that they couldn't move an inch, it was that packed down this street. They could barely even hear themself think through all the merrymaking, and the carousing, and the caroling...
Starling was so preoccupied trying to pick their way through the crowd--and bumping into so many people as they tried to squeeze past the deluge of bodies--that it took them entirely too long to realize that Lucian's usual tugging on their pants leg was no longer present. Wide-eyed, they tried to spin around to look, and when Starling finally managed to shuffle around enough to check, there was nothing there.
Panic gripped Starling. "Lucian!" they called out, hoping that perhaps the little Phantump had only momentarily gotten lost, and was still hanging around somewhere nearby. "Lucian, are you there?" Lucian - Phantump Level 5 Moves: Tackle/Astonish/Confuse Ray/Grudge

Ashton had arrived in Vega City only recently, having heard about the Gala from all the way in Cyngi City. He'd hopped on a bus and made his way over right away, not wanting to miss out on the festivities. The massive morph practically towered over most of the crowd, carefully working his way through, his ever faithful Eevee atop his shoulder. And his day would have likely been uneventful in truth, having simply planned on finding himself a hotel to stay in and rest up for the night. At least, that was his plan before he heard the calls of the trainer looking for her Pokemon. He turned his head, listening closely, and then headed after the voice, pushing through the crowd. "Miss? What's wrong?"He asked, stepping up toward Starling and waving to her. He took a glance around, seeing if he could spot what she was shouting for. Duster hopped down and rushed over to her, the Eevee yapping up at her. After a cursory examination of the area, the Sylveon looked back down to her. "Who is Lucian? Did you lose them in this crowd?"He frowned, scrubbing the back of his neck, feelers tracing down, wiggling out toward her curiously. Hopefully he could find some way to help... >> Duster: Level 8 Eevee ( Tackle, Covet, Growl, Helping Hand, Tail Whip, Sand Attack ) Starling Arthany

No Lucian here. No Lucian there. Starling tried retracing their steps, but no luck there either. They weren't even sure if they were in the right place. Halfway down this street looked much the same as the other. Damn it, they thought. "Lucian!"Shouting didn't really help the first time, or the second, or the third. A few people had come up and asked what was going on, and Starling had tried to explain as best they could. Some agreed to help search, but there was still no sight of the small pokemon anywhere in the crowd. And then, someone else came along. Some part of their mind that was focused on their research immediately lit up at the thought of an encounter with a Morph, as the form that approached was so very clearly one. But that part was drowned out by their desire to find Lucian. "He's missing- He was just here behind me, and I don't know how long he's been gone for-" Wait, stop. They had to explain, couldn't just start dumping everything on this new person. Starling put a hand to the bridge of their nose and exhaled, long and slow to try and calm down. "A Phantump. Small, about a foot tall. He usually follows right behind me but we must have gotten separated."Starling tried glancing around one more, hoping desperately to see a familiar stump or twig poking out from behind a stranger in the crowd. "He's shy, doesn't like crowds. He'd probably try to find somewhere quiet."ASHTON AYREDALE

Ashton listened, tapping his jaw with a large finger as they spoke. He nodded his head slowly, glancing around the crowd carefully. His height gave him some advantages in trying to peer over the mass of people, trying to see if he could spot out the Phantump.
"Okay, got it. If he's looking for a quieter place, he's going to have a hard time finding it around here, but it does narrow down the places we need to look." He replied, trying to offer a calming smile to the smaller human, "Duster and I will help you find him. He's got a good nose on him."
He punctuated that by booping his comparatively small Eevee on the nose, and then straightened back out. Well, there were the alleys, and some of the quieter shops. Surely someone had to have seen him. He furrowed his brow in thought, feelers quivering in the air. If only he knew this town better, he'd have more of a lead on where to go! He stepped through the crowd carefully, ateempting to lead the other out of it and somewhere less chaotic, the entrance to a nearby alley. He dusted himself off, looking back to them.
"Maybe there's a park in town that he ran off to. Phantumps prefer forested areas, right? At least, quiet ones..."

It is certainly a more interesting place than Dokuro first expected it to be. His first idea of the Vega City Gala couldn't have been more wrong. Well, guess he might try to have a bit more of fun in there, his pokemon were clearly enjoying it so far. Sadly the city seemed to have started getting really crowded, something that Dokuro himself hated a lot. He was about to decide to leave the place after the fact, but his curiosity reached peak level after seeing this really huge Sylveon in the distance. His need to research made him move in its direction right away at a fast pace. "Wooooah! I've never seen such a big Sylveon! I didn't even knew they were able to stand in... two... legs? Wait a minute... something is off about this Sylveon." Dokuro had started to draw in his sketchbook about this new found Sylveon, that is, until he started realizing it wasn't really a Sylveon. "Is this what they call... a Morph? This is my first time actually seeing one, very interesting." He erased some of the information he wrote and adjusted the details to fit as a research about Morphs. He seemed to have forgotten that Morphs were also people like him, and that he was probably being extremely rude. "Hey, would you like to tell me more about Morphs like you? Were you born like this? Do you usually get treated different? Can you actually use pokemon moves? Would you give me a demonstration of them? Oh, I have an idea. Oddish, come out. Tell me if any of my details are off." Oddish gave Dokuro pointers on how he didn't truly capture the essence of the Morph in his drawing. She was pointing with her leaves each part of Dokuro's drawings and the Morph how he could make it better. "Thanks Oddish, nothing really escapes your eye." Oddish just turn her head away and started brushing her leaves, trying to keep them pretty. Then Dokuro having finished his initial research while waiting for the morph to answer his questions, decides it was time to be a human being. "Oh right, sorry about that. I tend to ignore everything whenever I find something interesting to research. Sorry if I bothered you."

"This crowd sure is something, isn't it Queenie?"
Coming to Vega City for the festivities hadn't been high on Shiori's to do list, but given that they only happened once a year she figured that the trip could be worth it. The Bounsweet in her arms seemed more vigilant than usual, her beady little eyes scanning the skies for any sign of bird Pokemon. Besides for a few circling murkrow far above the din of the crowds though, the pair seemed to be fine. There was a higher chance of encountering her brother her than Shiori cared to admit, and a part of her hoped she would casually bump into him in the throng of people. Laughing off her sudden presence in the region at his questions while she evaded any real answers seemed oddly right to the young girl. Besides, it would be the perfect opportunity to gauge how he was handling Stellara and the trials of being a traveling trainer without their Mom holding his hand through a whole region.
The girl's petty reverie was broken when she noticed a small ghostly figure looking in either direction, hiding in a small patch of trees a bit further off from the crowd. As a grass type specialist she recognized a Phantump for what it was, though she'd never raised one of her own in her years of training. It probably wasn't native to such a bustling city, given how deep in forests they were known to live in the wild. Retreating to a small park like this made sense for one who wanted to avoid people.
"Well hello there." Shiori called to the Pokemon, kneeling down to be at it's eye level. "You seem a little distressed friend. Anything we can do to help?"
Queenie eyed the Phantump up and down. He didn't seem to be too threatening, and she felt a kinship with it as another small plant. (You can listen to Shiori here. She's not half bad. You can call me Queenie.) The Bounsweet offered the phantump a gentle smile, hoping to ease it's nerves if it reacted poorly to a stranger approaching it. (You lose your trainer or something in the crowd? Or are you wild and wander away from the forest?)

"A park. Yes. That sounds about right." Starling sighed. "I wouldn't have the first idea of where to find one, though. I've never been to Vega City before. I appreciate your help, thank you."
They looked back over the crowd. With their height, they could see a bit over the heads of the people milling about, but not enough to get a good look around the area. No sign of anything that looked like a park in the immediate vicinity. There was barely a hint of greenery to be found anywhere nearby.
Just as Starling was about to begin moving out to search, a short man walked up to the pair of them and began asking rapid-fire questions to the morph. Impatience and annoyance flared and Starling gave the man a slight glare as he seemed to begin- to start drawing, in the middle of this conversation? Starling was contemplating just leaving them to it when the man turned to them. "No harm done," they said shortly, though they really weren't thinking it inside. They could relate to the feeling of getting so caught up in a new discovery that the rest of the world ceased to matter. But, given the situation, Starling felt that they were quite justified in being hypocritical in this instance. "I'm in quite a bit of a hurry, actually. I'm looking for my pokemon."
A brief thought occurred to Starling. "Have you seen him? A Phantump, short, tuft of leaves on top of his head?"
Lucian sniffled, clinging to a stump and hugging it for comfort. This was not good! He didn't mean to get lost... Was Star going to be angry? No, no, Star didn't get angry at him, not when he made a mistake. Star got disappointed, and that was probably worse. So Lucian should probably get back to Star so they didn't get too disappointed.
But there were just so many people out there. Lucian had to be brave to go out and find Star, but... it was too much!
He was so preoccupied with trying (and failing) to summon up some courage to go forth into the crowd to find Star, that he didn't notice a person and another pokemon sneak up on him. When the lady started talking, Lucian squeaked in surprise and ducked behind the stump. He dared to peek out, to see a blonde-haired lady and a little round pokemon staring at him. They didn't look like they were going to do anything, but still! He couldn't leave now, not when they were both looking at him. So, deciding that the pokemon seemed a bit safer, he decided to talk to them.
(I- I'm Lucian. I was just with Star, but I got lost. Star's in there somewhere.) He gestured at the street. (B-but there's so many people there. I have to find Star, but...)
He sniffled again. Oh, he was never going to be able to do anything like this! He couldn't even go and find his trainer when he got lost!

Ashton was just about to respond to Starling as the shorter male approached. He blinked, blue eyes looking down at the other as he spoke out in rapid fire questions, opening his maw to respond and shutting it, repeating that several times as there was seemingly no gap in the onslaught. He briefly frowned, brow creasing as he listened. “I’m a morph, yes, and a Sylveon, you got that much right.” He replied, tilting his head to the side as his feelers twitched about, maybe a little off-put by how rude the man came across. “I was born as I am… my father was a Sylveon morph, just like me. And… well. I get treated differently by those who aren’t used to us. And by Team Crux, but that’s… a different story.” He waved a large hand, shaking his head. “Maybe after we find…” he paused, touching his jaw and looking over at Starling. “…I never did get your name. Anyway.""After we find their Phantump, I would be willing to show you a few of my moves. And maybe pose, if you’re going to draw me. Have to be sure you catch my good side.” He winked, grinning down at Murasaki. Trying to keep the mood light. Trying. “I’m Ashton, by the way... but I think that’s enough distractions. Should get to the search.” He briefly introduced himself, and then paused to allow the newcomer to answer their question about the Phantump, pausing to consider where it possibly could have run off to. Vega City was a large place, but surely they wouldn’t go too far… Starling Arthany MURASAKI DOKURO

"Uh, interesting. Wait, Team Crux? You've been in contact with them before? I've heard they are really dangerous. You must be very strong if you are in good condition right now." Dokuro was about to start asking even more questions, but the really pale, guy? Started talking about his missing pokemon. This was something that he would definitely not ignore. "Uh? A Phantump? I'm sorry, I haven't seen any so far. But I will gladly help you find it. I don't want to see a trainer and his pokemon separated." At that, the Sylveon morph presented himself, and got Dokuro really motivated to find the Phantump even faster. "Woah! Really? Then no time to waste! Let's go find that Phantump! Come out, Oddish! Help us find the missing Phatump! Oddish nodded at Dokuro, and started using her great observational skills to look for the Phantump. "Don't you worry, Oddish here can spot anything. She will surely find your Phantump in no time. Oh, maybe I could try this too. Smoochum! Come out! Try to see if you can use your psychic powers to find Phantump too!" But the moment Smoochum got out of the pokeball, she started trembling. She put her hands on her head, and was almost tearing up. 'Wuah! Too many people! It hurts! Too many thoughts!' "Oh no! Get back, quick" Dokuro quickly returned Smoochum back to her ball. "Sorry about that. I guess she got overwhelmed by the amount of people in this place. Guess we'll rely on regular skills." Once again, Dokuro forgot proper manners after the Sylveon presented himself as Ashton, and didn't present himself back. ASHTON AYREDALE Starling Arthany

The Phantump diving behind the stump made Shiori coo, though at least the little haunted tree seemed willing to talk to Queenie. Shiori tilted her head to the side and placed the fruit Pokemon on the ground.
"Queenie, gimme a spin if our little friend here is missing his trainer." Shiori decreed. The Bounsweet spun once affirmatively and the young girl gave a sage nod. "Just like I thought. Must've been separated in the crowd."
Whoever the trainer of Phantump was, hopefully they were as frantic as the little ghost seemed to be. Shiori knew she'd be more than a little anxious if she was separated from any of her Pokemon, especially such a shy one like the Phantump. As a veteran trainer/berry master in the making, the girl knew she had to help somehow. What would her mother or father do? What would Ryusuke do? She bit the side of her bottom lip briefly as she weighed, until the obnoxious sound of a mega horn touting the difficulties of one of the carnival games blared into her ears. She at first shot it an annoyed look, until a flash of inspiration struck.
Queenie, watching her trainer while maintaining a comfortable distance to the Phantump, saw the look enter her trainer's eye.
(Well, I think Shiori's come up with some kinda plan.) Queenie told the Phantump consolingly, (So if it works out you'll be back to your Star in no time.)
The fruit Pokemon settled into the grass with a small coo. (You from this region boyo?) Queenie asked the Phantump, figuring some small talk could ease his mind. (I'm from a jungle in this place called Alola. Nice place. Too many birds though for my liking.)
Shiori darted over to the barker, giving Queenie a hand signal to stay put. The Bounsweet had to trust her trainer knew what she was doing.
"Hiiiiii" Shiori said, beaming at him and bouncing forward as he called more to the test of strength game. "I was wondering if I could borrow your mega-phone. Pretty please?" She batted her lashes at him and did another bounce to add a bit of jiggle.
"What are you, twelve? Scram kid. I've got chest hairs older'n you." The old man shot back.
"Or if you wanna play it that way, I could always tell the nice Policeman down the street about how you asked me back to your van later. Offered me candy and Lillipups." Shiori said, a smile still plastered across her face. The carnie gave her a glare. "I can be very convincing....just so you know. And it's not like I wanna do anything bad with it. I'm just trying to reunite a little lost Pokemon with it's trainer. So have a heart or," she leaned in a little closer, "you can spend the night in lock up or not making any money off your game when I start demanding they search your place. So do the right thing, would you?"
The man passed the mega-phone after the girl threatened him with a disgruntled huff and went further back to smoke.
Shiori darted up to the game, hopping onto the shooting counter with practiced ease until she stood high above most of the crowd. Were those....pink ears she saw off in the distance?
"ATTENTION," Shiori began, blaring into the mega-phone to force her voice above the crowd, "WE'VE GOT A LOST PHANTUMP OVER IN THE TREES BY THE COTTON CANDY STAND NEAR THE MAGIKARP CATCHING GAME." She repeated the message before looking at the carnie, "AND NEAR THE BEST SHOOTING GAME AT THE GALA."
She offered him a smile and wink, mouthed the word thanks, and tossed him the microphone before returning to the grass types in their little patch of greenery. In all, the exchange only took a matter of minutes.
"Hopefully that did the trick." Shiori said with a small laugh. "Now, is there any chance I could get you to do me a favor little one? I've been trying out this new Poffin recipe..." Shiori said, reaching into her bag to produce the Pokemon treat, "and my only taste tester is Queenie." The girl broke the treat in half, feeding one to the Bounsweet. "Care to tell me what you think?"

BOOM!
An explosion sounded off in the distance. Screams filled the air, and people scattered in every direction. What was once peace soon devolved into chaos. It was hard to find out exactly what was going on; however, the group of trainers would soon realize that whatever was happening, it was dangerous, deadly even.
Groups of uniformed agents swept through the streets. They all donned matching tactical gear, some humans and some morphs, and the way they overtook the Gala’s area was terrifyingly efficient and calculated.
Two of the uniformed agents approached Starling, Ashton and Dokuro. They held their positions, long enough for a third individual to casually stroll up beside them. He was a tall man with intense eyes and a wide, fanged smile. “Well, well, well,” he mused. “Hello, you all. I hope you have been enjoying the festivities. Party's over? I'd say that the party has just begun.” His eyes fell upon Starling. “And you, Starling. Surely you have been expecting us, hmm?” The uniforms were unmistakable: they belonged to Team Crux.
The two agents chatted among themselves. “Wait. Look at him,” one said, pointing to Ashton. “He looks like that one Sylveon Morph that we saw back at the base.” The other agent squinted and nodded in affirmation. “He sure does. I wonder if they are related?”
The tall man continued. “Now, if you all could please peacefully leave the premises, that would be much appreciated. We have much business to do, Starling included.”

The wave from the explosion and the wind caused by it caused Dokuro to lose his balance, dropping his sketchbook, and getting some pages ruined from it. There was fire as a result from it. There were screams coming from everywhere. Dokuro would have started running for safety, but the pure rage from what happened to his research was overfilling him. "Hey. Ashton. Pale guy. I think finding your Phantump is gonna be harder with these guys running about. And I'm not gonna let anybody who destroys my research, much less evil guys from Team Crux." Dokuro walked with his fists clenched towards the team Crux guys that just showed up. "I don't know what do you want that you had to mess up this place, and I don't care about the reasons either. But you have made one single mistake here. You have messed with my research, and I shall not forgive you for that. UUUUUUUU YA!" Dokuro started running towards the tall man, and with a high jump, attacked him with a Karate Chop. In quick succession, he brought out his Pinsir while doing a backflip away from the man. "Pinsir. Use Bind to hold the grunts. Don't let them move. Oddish. Use Sweet Scent to mellow them."

Starling sighed in relief as the other person who had come to join them appeared to be willing to help as well. They still wouldn't be fully reassured until Lucian had been found. Still, though, the more people searching the better, in their opinion.
"Thank you," they said, giving the other a brief nod. "I appreciate your aid. Do you know if there are any areas nearby with a lot of tree-"
...The sound of the explosion ripped through the area, shattering the jovial atmosphere of the gala, sending people scattering and screaming. Turning to the source of the ominous noises, Starling's eyes widened as they took in what was happening. They'd recognize those uniforms anywhere. Scrambling to their feet as a small group approached them.
Starling's grip tightened on the strap of their bag as the officer of the group began speaking. That the group of Team Crux agents and higher ups came all the way out here was less than pleasant, the fact that they singled Starling out even less so. With the group of strangers they were with, that'd raise some awkward questions. Still. Starling wanted to stay in the group's good graces. That left no other choice than to obey.
"All right," Starling said, keeping a wary eye on the situation.
Unfortunately, it seemed that the sketchbook-toting man had a different opinion. Startled at his burst of activity, Starling hissed, "What are you doing!?" at him.
---
Lucian was happily nibbling on the brightly colored poffin that he'd been given. It tasted so good! Sweet, and soft, and absolutely, completely delicious! After a bit of introductions, he was getting comfortable with these new friends. He still missed Star, but until they arrived, he'd be okay sitting here and chatting and eating delicious snacks.
(-and then we went to the swamp! Star said they wanted a special berry there so we spent ages looking for it and-)
The deafening noise caused Lucian to squeak again and drop his poffin. What was that? That sounded scary! He covered his eyes for a brief moment, and when it didn't seem to happen again, he lifted his hands to peek, just a bit.
There were a whole lot less people now. In fact, right now, it became a lot easier to see through the streets. There were some people wearing the uniforms belonging to the people that Starling talked to a lot, so they were okay. And-
(Star!) Joyfully, Lucian began drifting over to the gathered group, happy to be reunited with his trainer.

Ashton was just about to reply to Murasaki and his sudden interest in finding the Phantump when the explosion sounded across the city. He whirled, turning on his heel to face the agents as they swept through the area, taking a cautionary step back. He pulled a Pokeball from his hip, calling out Duster… just in case he’d need him.
He blinked at the smaller male as he stepped forward, toward Team Crux. He stepped forward as well, following after him. He frowned, brow creasing as he watched the uniformed males approach, large ears swiveling as he listened to them speak. He glanced back over to Murasaki, lifting a paw toward him and shaking his head. He wasn't really interested in fighting these guys. Not yet, at least.
”Hey, maybe we should be careful with these guys..” He said, trying to beckon him back. At least until he picked up them remarking about another Sylveon morph. He turned his head toward the two that chatted, eyes narrowing as he stepped forward. His tone shifted low, almost a growl, suddenly looking a lot more threatening as he puffed up, stepping toward them. His claws curled into fists, muscled arms tensing.
”…What are you talking about? A Sylveon morph that looks like me? Where?!”
Seemed he might not get his answers though, especially as Murasaki lept in with his pokemon to deliver a karate chop to one of the goons, starting off the... interaction far more aggressively than Ashton would have maybe preferred. Starling Arthany MURASAKI DOKURO [/div]

The little impromptu picnic that the girl was sharing with the pair of plants was interrupted by a massive explosion nearby and a cacophony in the street as people dispersed with the arrival of a swarm of people in some kitschy uniform that made Shiori's eyes narrow slightly. She'd heard stories of Team Crux but had yet to see them in action. She wondered how much firepower they had on hand to be acting as ballsy as they were. In other regions she'd visited, criminal organizations at least had the decency to operate with some manner of discretion.
"I think we may want to leave for safety's sake." Shiori said cautiously as she kept her gaze trained on the people being scared off by the advancing blackguard of Team Crux. The response she received was different than what she'd intended. She broke her scan of the street to look down, only to find the Grass types no longer next to her. The hair on the back of her neck stood up in sudden shock. Was Team Cruz stealing Pokemon? A quick scan of the ground showed the Phantump drifting quickly towards the direction of the pink ears she'd spied from the game earlier and Queenie hopping along behind it.
(H-hey! It's not safe out here, we really need to get back to Shiori!) Queenie called to the Phantump, trying to slow him down. Her own unease was abated by Shiori's arms scooping her up suddenly.
"Queenie! Thank goodness you're safe." The girl nuzzled her Bounsweet's head sepals softly before following the Phantump who suddenly trilled at a group of people surrounded by several of the Team Crux members. Were they affiliated with Team Crux? Judging by the way one leapt into the air and launched a Karate Chop at one of the Crux members, Shiori highly doubted it. She gave a small chuckle at the sight. Outnumbered with no way of actually knowing what he was up against? The guy had more moxie than a Scraggy it seemed, and she wondered how much brain power. She paused short of the group and the drifting Phantump who cried happily to some member of the assembly before her.
"This Phantump one of yours?" Shiori's voice was guarded at the presence of the Team Crux members, and she was uncertain of the kind of fight they'd just managed to walk into. Why did she follow it all the way over here? She didn't want to scare it anymore than it was or ruin the burgeoning friendship between it and Queenie, but still. It would've been better for her health if she had avoided this area all together. Yet she couldn't leave a Pokemon in such a state, especially an adorable little grass type. --- 443 words for Starling Arthany MURASAKI DOKURO ASHTON AYREDALE IMUIT
