Liam pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose as he flipped through the pages of a novel he had been perusing for a few days. He looked up, dog-earing the page he was on and closing the book as he heard the door to the gym open. Despite the rushing water of the many slides in the gym as well as his age, his hearing was impeccable, and he always knew when someone was in the gym. How unfortunate that Brooke wasn't here to take on the challenger. However, she had other matters to attend to and Liam was more than happy to stand in her place. It had been some time since he had conducted a gym battle, and he had to admit that he was rather excited. He carefully placed the book in his chair and rose to his feet. His eyes tracked the path of slides that would lead the challenger to him. He had long memorized the correct path, having designed it himself, and he wondered how long it would take the challenger to find his or her way. All he could do now was wait, wait for the challenger to either arrive and face him or be forced to turn back by the many twists and turns of the slides. He couldn't wait. Everett MercerOOC: You must go through three slides to reach Brooke. There are three options at each stop. It's up to you to make the right choice based on things your character observes around them. If your post is deemed worthy, you'll get to immediately fight Brooke. If it's not quite up to snuff, then you'll fight a random Trainer and have to do it all over again!

ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE The day was finally here. The first step on the ladder to success for Everett Mercer was taking on and defeating the Baltis City Gym! Apparently, according to the roster, Vincent was having a challenge around the same time, but he'd get to face the regular leader, Brooke Stroud. Everett, however, had to settle for a substitute in her father, Liam. The battle today would be three-on-three, and Everett had been planning the team he would use for quite a while. Caesar, Darwin, and Faust would be battling today. The first two were for obvious, type-related reasons, but Faust was mostly just for the unpredictability he brought to the table. Wood Hammer was a good last resort, but it seemed to do a bit of damage to the poor Mimikyu when used. Luckily, they had a few alternatives now. The young man made his way to the changing rooms near the entrance and got prepared. He left the Poke Balls he wouldn't be using in a locker that was provided, then changed into his swimming trunks. He wasn't normally one to be seen without a shirt on, so he could tell people were staring at the giant Braviary tattoo on his back. Come to think of it, a lot of the people in the waterpark were staring at him. Could they know that he was the one to be challenging the Gym today? Once he was ready, the lady at the front desk called a few lifeguards up to take him to the slide complex in the back. On the way, they explained the rules. All he had to do was go through a series of water slides in the correct order to get to the Gym Leader. It seemed simple enough, but looking closer at the ridiculously tall tower, it seemed there were many different combinations and paths of slides that it felt somewhat daunting. Finally, Everett reached the top of the tower, where a monitor showed the arena he was aiming for. He took note of the surroundings, right down to the color of the slide dumping its contents into the area. Hopefully if he saw a dark-green slide like that on his third run, he'd know he was on the right track. With the okay from the lifeguard, Everett stepped up and chose the first slide. He did so slowly and methodically, tracing the paths of each slide down to their logical conclusions and seeing if he could spot anything of importance at the bottoms. Unfortunately, there were just too many paths to be taken, and it seemed that he'd just have to go on guesswork at this point. Taking a deep breath, he went down the first slide, the red one on the left.
After an admittedly fun ride, Everett was faced with another choice. He was smack in the middle of the web of slides, so visibility was limited. Perhaps there were other ways to find clues? This was starting to become a real puzzle, and the challenge of it excited him. Two of the slides seemed simple enough, but there was something about the yellow slide on the left that called out to Everett. Upon closer inspection, it seemed that someone had carved an arrow pointing down the slide on the top of the inside of the tube. It was too rough to be put there by someone that worked at the Gym, so Everett had to wonder if this was placed by a previous challenger giving the future challengers a hint. Deciding that this was as good a cue as any, Everett took his next slide and prepared to search for clues that would hopefully lead him to the Gym Leader.
Everett was starting to get a bit claustrophobic going through these tube-like slides. He was never a fan of them in the first place, but if that was how he had to get to the Leader, then so be it. The last set of slides was in front of him, and he was horrified to see that there were two green slides. One was on the left, and the other was in the middle. Everett tried to trace their path, but couldn't distinguish one from the other. Their shades were ever-so-slightly different, and they crossed paths more than once. This would require a little more detective work. He knelt down in front of the middle slide and found something that would hopefully clinch his success. Right in front of the entrance to the dark-green slide was a few strands of aqua-blue hair, the same color that the Gym Leader Brooke seemed to have in all her pictures. This was it! Everett braced himself and nearly shot through the last slide, hoping that he had made it successfully! CAT ✖ notes: thanks again for NPC-ing for me!

Liam looked up as he heard the subtle interruption of flowing water that signaled that someone had entered the slides. His excitement rose, and he found himself tempted to simply lead the challenger through the correct path himself just so he could begin their match. But that was against the rules, and it was up to the contender to find his own way. Liam fingered the three Pokeballs on his belt clip, practically feeling their eagerness to jump into battle. He could hear Everett coming ever closer, until he knew the stranger was at the final set of slides. Would he pick the correct slide? They were so close in color, but the correct slide was just a shade darker. It was a miniscule difference that, in one's haste, would be completely unnoticeable. He hoped Everett would pick the right slide... Liam had to stop himself from punching the air with glee as he saw the young man pop out of the slide. The grin on his face was evidence enough of his excitement. Clearing his throat, he assumed his gym leader persona and said, "Welcome to the Baltis City gym, challenger. Congratulations on making it this far. But your journey is far from over." WIth grandiose flair, Liam spun on his heel, his jacket flaring out behind him, and walked over the the battlefield. He assumed his position on his side of the field and motioned to the opposite side for Everett to stand. "This will be a three on three battle. The winner will be determined when one opponent no longer has any available Pokemon. Best of luck, young man." Liam pushed his glasses up on his nose once more. "Let the battle begin!" He unclipped a Pokeball from his belt and tossed it casually in the air. "Go! Marill!"The mouse Pokemon burst from its Pokeball, eyes fiery and alert. She stood at her trainer's feet, waiting for an order. Liam smiled at Everett. "Now, challenger, send out your Pokemon."Everett MercerEach trainer will use three Pokemon. The challenger may use items. When one trainer's Pokemon have all fainted, the battle is over. Send out your Pokemon, and choose your first move. Good luck!

It seemed that Everett had figured out the way to the Gym Leader pretty easily! That was a great sign! Hopefully the battle wouldn't be too difficult. The Gym Leader, or at least the substitute Gym Leader, gave his usual spiel and sent out a Marill. It seemed harmless enough, but Everett had heard enough about the scary abilities of Stellara's Pokemon League. "Thanks!" he said to the older man politely, getting his first Poke Ball out. "I choose you, Caesar!" A quick flick of the wrist sent the Poke Ball flying, revealing his friendly Bulbasaur, now sporting a spark of excitement for the coming battle. "Start off strong with Vine Whip!"Caesar quickly did as instructed, extending his vines in an attempt to grapple the opposing Marill. Battle Log: Everett sends out Caesar.
