the things that you might like don't grow inside of me It was a funny thing, how much people could change over such a short course of time. Human beings - Pokemon as well, for that matter - grew with time and experience, but just the same Ryusuke couldn't help but be surprised by it. When he'd left home nearly half a year ago, Ryusuke had been under the impression that he'd be in Hoenn for a lot longer than just a year. Between getting kicked left and right by wild Pokemon, dealing with simply finding enough to eat and sheltering himself on a night to night basis, that first year had taken a lot longer to get used to than expected and the teen had assumed that his mother had planned to stay around until those lessons were learned. As stubborn as even he was, though, Ryusuke hadn't even noticed the subtle change as it happened - as he began to get the hang of battling, of cutting out most of the excess effort involved in the traveling aspect, he began to find being away from home more entertaining than it was a chore. It was a kind of freedom that he hadn't yet tasted before, and it was only then that he began to understand why his mother had set out the way she did. Simply put, when they had been out on their own, they didn't need to answer to anyone or anything aside from their own consciences and the Pokemon that had decided to tag along with them - they were free to do what they wanted, to choose their own paths and their own fates, and no one was there to tell them otherwise. Ryusuke had always been independent, even as a kid - back home that had often resulted in him butting heads with the other kids and the adults in his life, but out here it did nothing but earn him peace of mind, and it was that more than anything that had allowed him to make up his mind once he'd finally set his mind on leaving Hoenn. After having spent nearly two weeks aboard the ship that had brought him and his sole companion to Stellara, Ryusuke wasted no time in grabbing his bag from the cabin and making his way topside with the PA announcement that they'd be pulling into port within only a few minutes. After spending half a month on board the ship, makin sure that they were front and center off the boat was the least he could do. Indeed, even as Ryusuke made his way to the top of the stairwell leading to the ship's deck - red duster trailing behind him as he went - Treecko could already be seen perched atop the metal railing by the door, impatiently waiting for his human half to get there. As soon as Ryusuke did the Grass type wasted no time hopping from the railing onto the trainer's shoulder and clambering up for a more solid grip atop the blond's head. Normally it was something that Ryusuke wasn't all that happy about as it frankly looked ridiculous, but in a crowd like this it was something he tolerated as the smaller Pokemon chirped out vague directions towards the exit from the higher vantage point. A few more minutes of shoving and pushing through the crowd and the pair would finally feel the renewed warmth of the sun, following the stream of people down the ship's boarding ramp and finally finding solid footing once more on the pier below. New city, new region. Where to first? @tag |

Having been to Eridan City's Pokemon Center quite a few by times by now, Roland had learned what to expect from a visit. Which is why it hit him all the harder as his latest visit had least to say... deviated from the usual pattern. To him, visiting a Pokemon Center was a chance to just sit around, maybe exchange some hot tips, and sometimes even having your pokemon checked out by the staff, just in case. This time though, he'd been called to the front desk the moment he'd entered the building. He was promply told that someone had left a pokemon for him, claiming it belonged to him. Perplexed to say the least, Roland had curiously let out the pokemon, only to be met with a pokemon who's very species was foreign to him. As cute as it looked, floating in the air in front of him, he was fairly sure he'd never owned a pokemon like this. Thinking this a mistake of some sort, he'd asked the staff for the whereabouts of whoever had left the pokemon there to begin with. Learning that they had mentioned that they were taking the ferry, which was due to leave soon. Quickly returning the pokemon to its ball, he was suddenly out the door, racing towards the docks in hopes of catching whoever had left this pokemon with him. He eventually found himself pushing through quite the crowd, presumably the passengers of the ferry that had just arrived. He muttered an "excuse me" as he bumped past a kid with a Treecko riding on his head. Finally making it past the crowd, he was dissapointed to find the ship, already on its way. Realising that this had quickly turned into a lost cause, something, or maybe someone caught his eye. A strange person, or some like a strange shape he could just tell was supposed to be a person, as if out of focus almost, just staring at him from the departing ferry, and with the blink of an eye, it was gone. Roland dismissed it as a trick of the light or the like as he sent out the strange pokemon yet again. It still looked quite excited to be around him, wiggling its tiny tentacles in a most adorable manner. As happy as it looked though, it had already dawned on Roland that he had little choice but to take it in at this stage. "So much for giving you back..." Hearing that statement, the pokemon called Inkay almost seemed offended, and not in the sad way, it just looked outright annoyed, the kind of look one might get when you tell someone how to do their job. the things that you might like don't grow inside of me Crowds were never something that Ryusuke was particularly fond of, for a great many reasons. He'd never really gotten along with people in the traditional sense, for one. They just didn't make sense to him - a lot of poor decisions for equally poor reasons, more often than not, and on a far simpler note? Ryusuke liked his alone time. At least that's how he'd always figured it, although that didn't do much to explain why he didn't get nearly as irritated around Pokemon. Still, he'd learned to tolerate them for the most part, and thus Ryusuke wasn't overly upset about getting jostled around as people continued to exit the ferry behind him while he and Treecko still were figuring out where to go next. Leaning from one side to the next in an attempt to try and see past the crowd before Treecko himself gave a grunt of annoyance, Ryusuke paused to start digging around in his bag instead. They'd handed them out on the ferry before arriva- there it was. Pulling his PokeNav from his belt, Ryusuke took a moment to slide in a chip fished from the bottom of his bag, only to wait a moment as the device powered up and recognized the new map expansion that had been added. Another moment later and the electronic knew exactly where he was, map flashing to life on the tiny screen and an icon representing the device's own location appearing in Eridani's waterfront district. Just as Ryusuke began to get his bearings on where exactly he was and the nearby landmarks, however, a particularly powerful bump from someone moving towards the ship nearly knocked the PokeNav from his hands. Heart leaping into his throat at the idea of the electronic dropping into the murky waters below the dock, it was only a reflexively tightening grip that kept it from leaving his hand. Immediately clipping the device back to his belt, the trainer quickly reasoned that the dock probably wasn't the best place to use it. Just as he began trying to figure out how to move forward through the quickly thinning crowd, however, the weight on Ryusuke's head suddenly vanished. Momentarily confused, Ryusuke glanced down before expanding his search to around and behind him, and it didn't take long to see where Treecko had went. Having hopped down from the blond's head intending to catch the Nav should it escape his trainer's grasp, the Grass type had instead shifted his focus elsewhere. Heading back to where the now departing ship had been, the Wood Gecko's yellow eyes were firmly set on the offending training that had nearly cost them the device. @tag |

It had suddenly dawned on Roland that he could in fact make use of his telepathic abilities to potentially figure things out with information provided from the pokemon itself. And so he took a moment, and quickly reached a stable enough place within himself to reach out to the pokemon in front of him. "He-" (FINALLY!) Roland physically recoiled in surprise at the impact of that response he'd received just now. ("I really wanted to talk to you earlier, but I also really didn't want to startle you!") So much for that he thought to himself. "Wait... you mean you knew I would do... this?" ("Of course, she told me everything!") Roland's eyes visibly narrowed at tha last statement. "..."She"? Who's "she"?" ("Can't tell you.") "What? Why?" ("She told me not to, duh") As frustrating as it was, he supposed it just stood to reason that the pokemon wouldn't tell him anything if it was in on it. "Fine, what CAN you tell me then?" The levitating pokemon perked up considerably as it went on to explain itself. ("Well, i'm Inkay for starters, and I was brought to you so I could join your team!") Roland chose to assume that "Inkay" was the name of the species rather than the name of this particular individual. "That's it?" ("Mhm!") "And you can't tell me why?" ("Right!") With asmuch on the table as he'd evidently get at this stage, he supposed there wasn't much sense in turning Inkay down, where would he even send her if he turned her down? He'd need to expand his team at some point anyhow, and it could hardly hurt to take her in. ("Is that one of yours?") Roland perked his head up, not exactly sure what the Inkay was talking about. "Is what mine?" Inkay turned somewhat, leading Roland's gaze to a Treecko that was quickly approaching him. ("That one?") Roland was at a sincere loss for words as he saw the Treecko, its eyes obviously drilled into him. Roland was at a loss for words at the sight of the Treecko, the Treecko's eyes quite clearly set on Roland. He faintly recalled bumping into someone with a Treecko in the crowd, so it was probably safe to say that it hadn't taken kindly to that. Having spoken telepathically for the last minute or so, force of habit struck him as he reached out to the Treecko's mind. "Did I hurt you? Sorry!" Tags: Ryusuke Ugumi OOC: Here's a post~
