I HOPE THAT YOU BURN
Polaris Lake was beautiful this time of year. Emilia made it a goal to visit the lake as often as possible. The gently rolling surface of the water was soothing, and it distracted her from the intense pressure of being a gym leader. So many people relied on her and she was always being badgered for challenges. She never asked for any of it, but her father insisted that she take over the gym. It was a rare occasion that she could get away from the stress and simply enjoy herself for awhile.
As she walked down to the lake, Mags clung to her back, his little head resting on her shoulder. Emilia had all but given up trying to shake the Pokemon's clinginess. He would have none of it and held onto any part of her he could reach. Mags' wide eyes took in everything around him as they entered the clearing that held the lake. Emilia reached into her pocket and pulled out Slither's Pokeball. She tossed it to the ground, and the lizard materialized, her eyes turning to slits as they adjusted to the new light. The lizard rolled in the grass, wiggling around to scratch her back. Emilia smiled, sitting down in the grass and staring out at the gently rippling lake. ("Mama?") Mags said, tugging on Emilia's jacket. Emilia sighed. She hated being called "mama" but she had finally stopped trying to get the Magby to call her anything else. "What?" she said, looking down. Mags pointed a stubby finger into the distance. Emilia looked up and saw something running at them. Emilia quickly rose to her feet, and Mags grabbed onto her leg. Even Slithers looked up, mildly interested. ("What is it?") Slithers asked. Emilia shook her head. They were going to find out.
