| Say what you mean Tell me I'm right And let the sun rain down on me Give me a sign I want to believe There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you've paid for | Well this was quiet unexpected. Luna stared wide-eyed at the many fields in front of her. She found it insane how the region could go from cities and tall buildings to flat lands with tiny buds of growing plants. I can't be lost can I? The map clearly stated to follow one path... one path?!
All she wanted was to see was this so called pokemon racing. She had never heard of such a thing and it had piqued her interest very quickly. She would love to participate in it but no way her pokemon would agree to it. Maybe she would be able to borrow somebody's...
No. It was a crazy idea.
But maybe they had rental pokemon she would be able to use.
Yes! Brilliant!
"According to the map... I make a left here?" The teen questioned looking at the forks in front of her. I probably should have learned to navigate before I left... she thought before sighing.
Luna made her way down the path, she could always bring out Zinnia but the green pokemon would probably chastise her for getting lost again. She felt guilty whenever she received a lecture from her pokemon, she hated causing them unnecessary worry.
It wasn't very long until she heard the roar of a crowd. She began running to the sound hoping it was the place she was looking for.
"Ladies and gentlemen. It is your last chance to bet on your favorites for today's professional race! Today's race will be followed by a beginner's one, if you would like to participate make sure to sign up before our first race!"
Luna smiled widely, she couldn't believe her luck! The petite teen ran through the crowds until reaching what seemed to be a line for something. The girl reached out tapping the person in front of her.
"Is this the line for the beginner's race? she grinned.

( You bet on the Muk? ) Quasar said incredulously, squirming in Carine's arms. She tightened her grip on the Nidoran, at the same time unzipping the mouth of her Trapinch-shaped purse to put away her wallet. ( The hell're ya thinkin', lady? Yer suppose t' bet on the Rapidash! The Rapidash, ya hear? )
"I hear," Carine said smoothly as she stepped away from the betting counter. As an afterthought, she dropped her betting ticket into her purse as well before zipping it. "But the Rapidash's always favorite to win. I'm getting kind of sick of it, you know? And I like to root for the underdog."
Hearing this, Quasar was about ready to pop his beady little eyes out of his head. ( The underdog? This is gambling, lady, this is real stuff! Ya've got cold 'ard money on the line! )
"Not a lot," Carine remarked. "Just twenty. Watch those spikes, now."
The Nidoran, whose poison spikes had bristled at Carine's words, smoothed them with evident reluctance. ( Fine. Waste yer cash. But gimme twenty too, so I can bet on the Rapidash an' rub the win in yer face. )
"I don't think they'll let a Pokemon bet."
A long, exaggerated groan. ( Then bet in mah place! Get back in line, lady. )
She had her qualms about betting twice on the same race, but she obediently returned to the back of the line anyway. She did have a good reason for not betting on the Rapidash: the professional-level racetrack had sharp corners, and Rapidash, though blisteringly fast, were awful at turning. Their reflexes weren't good enough to check their speed. She didn't have a good reason for betting on the Muk, though; she just thought it would be funny. With such low-level stakes, Carine wasn't much concerned with reaping good returns.
Carine loved gambling. She loved all cheap thrills, so this wasn't much of a surprise. She did prefer organizing bets than participating in them—she did that a lot in high school—but with the sharp winter sun pounding on her back, the crackling tension between both betters and racers alike, she felt extravagant enough to drop a couple coins. Life was fun.
Someone tapped her shoulder. Carine turned and was met with the beaming face of a girl around her age, if a bit younger. And shorter. She almost felt that she should bend down to meet the girl's eyes. "Oh, no, this is the line for the betting counter. I know where the sign-ups for the race is, though—I'll take you if you want. I was just about to go sign up myself." Actually, she hadn't been planning to race at all. The more she thought about it, though, the more entertaining the prospect was.
( Hey, I didn't hear 'bout that! ) Quasar protested, casting suspicious glances between the two trainers. ( An' what 'bout mah bet? )
"Changed my mind. Follow me," she chirped to the girl, turning on her heel and wending her way into the throngs. The sunlight glossed her long brown hair, which swayed at her waist like the glittering mane of a Rapidash. "So you're gonna race too, huh?" Carine asked to make small talk, raising her voice above the hubbub of the crowd. "Ever done it before?"

| Say what you mean Tell me I'm right And let the sun rain down on me Give me a sign I want to believe There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you've paid for | So once again Luna had managed to be at the wrong place. She knew she needed to find a compass, or a pokemon with a sense of direction, or a guide that could lead her through the Stellara region in one piece. Probably all three in her case. "Oh that would be lovely thank you!" Luna beamed. She was glad she had someone to follow, it lowered her chance of being astray once more. Though a small wave of guilt made a way through her as the small pokemon in the girl's arms had missed out because of her he did seem annoyed. "I'm sorry for taking her away from you but if I may say... you are one dashing Nidoran."she complimented. She was happy the girl had a pokemon she actually recognized. So far, the many pokemon she had walked by or she had seen flying in the air were all knew to her. It was overwhelming at times. It was definitely comforting seeing a pokemon she knew from her region. Luna nodded, "Yes. I've never tried such a thing but it seemed like fun so why not?" the teen shrugged. Sure there was the chance of injury for herself, sure she would probably lose and not gain much from it but memories. Her parents and Zinnia would probably kill her for putting herself at risk like this but oh well. Wow. She had never really considered herself rebellious before. Did this technically count. Yes, it did. So why did it make her happy? A smile began to grown on her face, one she could not stop. It wasn't like she ever got the chance to be a bit rebellious. She thought it strange she was enjoying the feeling. Oh how she was loving this journey already. "Have you ever done it before?" she asked, closely following the girl in front of her. "Oh, My name is Luna Raine. she said. "Probably should have mentioned it sooner. she added with a chuckle. words: 333; Carine Serrano Luna doesn't have any pokemon big enough to race so I was gonna have her pick up a standard Ponyta or Rhyhorn from the keepers . PS As they watch Muk should totally win xD |

Though he had an invariably short temper, Quasar had a big ego to match. ( Oh? ) he huffed in response to the girl's words, turning his head away from her view. ( No surprise there! Any'un who ain't blind can see that. )
"The spikes, Quasar," Carine said to the Nidoran, who'd been puffing out his chest in pride. "That said, I don't think I've ever seen you smile so big before."
( Sh-shut it, stingy lady! Stingy blabbermouth pennypinchin' lady! )
"Ouch." She glanced over her shoulder and mouthed nice job to the girl, smiling as the Nidoran in her arms grumbled further insults under his breath. She'd been looking for ways to appease the hot-headed Pokemon whenever he got heated, and it seemed compliments worked well. Perhaps something more could come out of this chance encounter.
The girl seemed excited about racing, to the point where she could practically feel her smile without having to turn around. Enthusiasm wasn't something that came easily to Carine, as she was one to simply go with the flow and roll with the punches. She didn't happen to do things; things happened to her. For example, she hadn't even given thought to racing until the girl had given her the idea to. But maybe there was merit to this kind of living anyway. Carine had lived an interesting life thus far after all.
"Twice," she replied, holding up two fingers. This was another little lie. "It's harder than it looks, so I didn't place. But it's really fun! Ah, here's the sign-up line." A long stretch of people extended behind a wooden counter, behind which a worker was rapidly recording names. Next to it was another stand with a row of polished Pokeballs lined up on top. Carine looked behind her and pointed at it. "And that's the rental station. Mind if I stop there first? I don't have any Pokemon I can ride on."
The girl introduced herself as Luna. A pretty name for a pretty girl.
She flashed a smile. "I'm Carine Serrano. Nice to meet you!"
Luna Raine sounds good to me! and hell yeah muk should win, tho quasar will be super pissed whoops

| Say what you mean Tell me I'm right And let the sun rain down on me Give me a sign I want to believe There's nothing wrong with just a taste of what you've paid for | Luna chuckled, at the interesting relationship the pokemon and trainer shared. It was rather special compared to her and her pokemon. It was beautiful in it's own way. The Nidoran was rougher around the edges and she wondered how she would deal with a pokemon like that. Like people, she did not have much experience with different pokemon, this journey would hopefully change that. "That's amazing!" she exclaimed as they reached the sign-up table, "The doing it twice part not the not placing part." she quickly added sheepishly. She did not want her current buddy to get the wrong idea. Luna shook her head, "It's a pleasure to meet you as well. I don't mind at all I am in need of a pokemon as well." she said leading the way to the nearby table. "Before I forget, do you have any tips I should keep in mind? she asked during their short walk. As much as she was enjoying ignoring her parents little voices in the back of her head, the teen would much rather avoid injury. It would be a great excuse for her parents to never let her our of Johto again. There were a few choices laid out in front of them, each of them with a little paper with a few words written giving people a little snippet of the pokemon. Luna grabbed the pokeball containing a Doduo labeled , Inexperienced (four races) but competitive She wasn't really sure why she chose it, it had just caught her eye. She made sure to grab the paper as well, they would have to turn it in to man signing everyone up. "Have you made your choice?" she asked turning to Carine. words: xxx; Carine Serrano |

Quasar was a Pokemon of many faults and not so many good qualities. He was petty and easily offended, two traits that didn't combine well. He was shortsighted and not very intelligent. Aside from all this, however, Quasar wasn't a bad soul. So Carine got along with him well enough, though she suspected that there would be difficulties later down the road. She'd burn those bridges when she came to them.
"Not really," she replied to the girl's exclamation, smiling modestly. She surveyed the Pokeballs and their respective descriptions. A competitive Doduo, an obedient Ponyta, a stubborn Rhyhorn... there were plenty of options to choose from. She pretended to consider them carefully, knowing full know that she'd end up picking at random.
"Tips? Well, let's see." It was true that she'd never raced before, but she could think of some common-sense advice off the top of her head. "Racing Pokemon know what they're doing--they all have some basic training even if they're inexperienced--so don't hold them back too much. It's enough to just encourage them and alert them to upcoming turns and such. You can control their direction by kind of pushing your legs left or right, if that makes sense, so make sure to do that when turning. That's pretty much it-- you can pick the little things up during the actual race." Seemed solid enough to her.
The girl asked if she had made her choice. "One moment," Carine said, reaching over and plucking a Pokeball containing a Tauros in the back row. The description attached to it read Inexperienced (5 races), fast but hard to control. Fine with her.
( Why do ya keep pickin' all the weird 'mons? ) her Nidoran complained, wriggling in her arms once more. ( Yer an idiot. Ah would've gone with tha Ponyta myself cos ah still got two brain cells t' rub together, unlike some lady ah know! )
"I've got a good feeling about this one," she replied, to Quasar's great distress. Then she turned to Luna, rolling the Pokeball in her palm. "Let's go sign up now."
This time she was the one to lead the way. The sign-ups line was much shorter than before, since most of the beginner racers had registered while Carine and Luna stood deliberating at the rental station.
"I'm Carine Serrano," she introduced to the man behind the counter when it was her turn. She placed the Pokeball and the paper on the table as the man prompted her to spell her last name. "S-E-R-R-A-N-O. I'll be entering the beginner's race with this Pokemon."
"Track number seven," he grunted, recording her name on the paper. "You'll be called to the tracks when the professional race ends." He handed back the paper and the Pokeball, gesturing for Luna to step up to the counter.
Carine stepped to the side and waited for her companion.
