The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway | Magnus

A visible cloud of air escaped from his lips as he let out a quick breath, a key sign of the freezing winter air. The mountains were cold freezing all year long, but it seemed especially so this winter day. Magnus pulled his gray scarf up his face slightly up with his right hand, as his left arm was currently occupied by an orange Pokemon who was happily snuggling close to his body. "You comfy there, buddy? I'm pretty sure that it's much warmer inside your pokeball than out here." He spoke to the trapinch who would instead let out a small cry and a brief shake of her head as a response. If this was a normal climate, full of green grass and flat plains, he was sure Lily would have been romping around. It didn't surprise him to see her refusing to touch the snowy floor due to her status as a ground type. What he was surprised about was the fact she had preferred to be out in the cold. While it was a minor hassle to carry a weight around as he tried to navigate the snow, Magnus didn't mind this too much. 

The two had arrived in Nari City as they had heard that it had housed one of the many gyms within the Stellara region. Magnus himself was curious to see how one of these gyms were structured. While he wasn't ready himself to take on the gym just yet, it didn't hurt to take a look. After a day or two of hiking, they had finally made their way into the city. However, Magnus didn't want to immediately head his way to the gym. While it was the main reason he was here in the first place, it didn't hurt to sidetrack a bit and enjoy what the city has to offer. This was both of their first time here after all. So far, Nair City seemed to have lived up to its reputation. Despite the frigid conditions which the two weren't a huge fan of themselves, the sights and the fact the snow had complemented the sights would completely make up for this minor discomfort. 

As the two explored their surroundings themselves, a strange scent had caught Magnus' attention. He didn't pay too much attention to it at first before the smell suddenly became overwhelming. Almost immediately his eyes began to water up slightly as he began to gag, pulling up his scarf to act as a barrier between his nose and the foul scent. Lily, looked up at her trainer as she made a sound and tilted head slightly. Trapinches didn't have noses, and she was fortunately spared from the foul scent. "I'm okay. It's just that this smell is just pretty bad." He reassured his Pokemon as he scrunched up his face. While the scarf did manage to block out some of the smell, it still lingered within his nose. Blinking away the tears, Magnus began to look around, trying to spot the source. After a little bit of searching, his eyes landed on a Skunky who had the tail of a strangely colored Vulpix in its teeth. Near the pokemon was a girl who seemed to be complimenting the skunky, possibly the trainer of the two. He was almost certain the smell came from the skunky, however, he didn't want to go up to her and complain. Instead, the two had simply just stood there, unsure of what to do next.

There was a multitude of actions he could have carried out such as talk to the trainer or possibly even offer to help the girl in some manner. Instead, he just stood and watched the girl until she seemed to notice him and would give him an apology. A smile formed on his face hidden behind the scarf he refused to remove from his face. Magnus would continue by ushering out a few words of his own. "I-its fine." He gave a slightly nervous laugh as his eyes flitted away in order to avoid making eye contact. Lily had nudged him slightly as she had sensed the change in his behavior. Regarding his partner with a quick glance, he sighed before completely turning his attention to the woman who was beginning to stroll over. 

Flinching slightly as she would take out a device to scan Lily, Magnus had opened his mouth to ask what she was doing when he recognized the device. A pokedex, he noted mentally. He had one of his own as well, although he would not find himself using it quite often. As the woman introduced herself as Lily, Magnus and his own Lily gave a small chuckle but continued to listen along to their introductions. While he had seen a Skunky before, he was rather curious about her vulpix. The vulpix that he knew was red, while this one appeared white in color. After she had finished, Magnus paused briefly and thought of what he wished to say before speaking in a quiet tone. "I'm Magnus. And this is my partner... Lily. Same name as yours and all." The trapinch would make a small noise of her own as she would scurry over to the girl's side and towards her vulpix and skunky as she began to talk to the Pokemon themselves, placing her face right in front of the skunky's. (Hi there!) She spoke as she then turned her attention to the vulpix who seemed to be a bit annoyed. (Why do you look so sad? Did something happen?) She questioned as she began to walk around the two Pokemon.

Leaving the Pokemon to themselves, he attempted to make small talk with the girl. "What brings you here to Nair if I may ask?" He spoke with slight hesitation. "It appears that Tank, Snow and you were up to something rather interesting." He laughed slightly as he began to shift the position of his scarf and began to await her answer.

Magnus quietly watched as the Pokemon had their mini exchange, slightly surprised how close Lily was able to get to Tank despite the fact he knew she had no sense of smell. While he found the vulpix's response to be rather amusing, he did feel some pity towards the skunky. While he didn't know a skunky's exact anatomy and physiology, he was sure that they did not have any control over the way they smelled. Lily instead began to get even closer to Tank as she responded cheerfully, ("I can't really smell you but I'm sure you smell nice") If only she were able to smell him she might think otherwise, but chances are she would have found some other way to compliment him. Lily turned her attention back to Snow as she tried to make light of this situation, although she hesitated first. ("I'm sure you smell great as well right now too!") Even the trapinch herself was unsure whether the vulpix would appreciate the comment or not, but it might be worth a shot.

He would then turn his attention back at the other trainer he was talking to. She was here to take on the Stellara gym as well. Magnus wasn't surprised at that being her goal after all the Stellara League was rumored to be one of the hardest in the world and of course many people would want to try it out for themselves. While he did want to see how the gyms were structured he did not wish to challenge one himself quite yet. However, at her mention of Nair's gym being a fire type gym did cause him to consider challenging it for a moment. Lily was a ground type which had an advantage over fire, although he would then remember he currently only had her as his only Pokemon which caused him to immediately reconsider. "Seems like training is a pretty good idea, especially if you have an ice type Pokemon." He commented pausing for a moment as his question from earlier returned. Thinking for a moment, he then finally decided to ask her. "I'm not sure if this is rude or not, but I've been curious about this. I've never seen a white vulpix before and was wondering what species is Snow?" He asked, with a slight look of awe on his face. However, he was quickly brought back to her question.

"Ah, but I've come to see the gyms here as well. I just wanted to see how they work before I challenge one myself. I'd love to challenge one myself right now, but I think I'll wait a bit so I have some friends before I do so." After hearing his words of a gym challenge, Lily walked back towards her trainer as she would strike a confident pose before she exclaimed ("I'm sure I can take on that fire gym leader without a problem by myself.") Magnus laughed at her words, leaning down to rub her head. "I'm sure you are." He would then turn his attention back towards the human Lily as the trapinch ran back to the pokemon. "Otherwise I guess its nice to look around Nair city, even if it is freezing this time of year." Almost as if on cue a small breeze blew through the area, causing Magnus to shiver slightly. "It is our first time here so why not enjoy the area while we're here?"
