We're painted red to fit right in
Dressed in her usual black travel clothes and crimson coat, Elinda wasn't typically the sort used to waiting. Patience was, ironically, not her strongest virtue despite being a specialist with a focus on slow, defensively oriented Pokemon, and the lack of it had been the driving force behind her leaving home young as she did to become a trainer. Thankfully it was a skill she'd acquired over time, although the concept was no less alien to a woman used to operating on no one's schedule but her own.
With any luck, though, this would be quick.
Honoka knew who she was looking for and would hopefully be able to spot the older trainer leaning against the wall beside the Pokemon Center's front door. After their last several encounters Elinda would freely admit to being fond of the younger blond, but this wasn't exactly a social call - she had places to be and suspected that the younger trainer did as well. Recent events had accelerated the veteran trainer's plans going forward, and the sooner she got those moving the better.

Honoka sighed heavily through her nose, frustrated. Things were not going as planned, and the day of training had just ended up in her Pokemon getting hurt more than necessary. What the hell was she doing wrong? She was used to Dragon types, but this darn Pokemon just wouldn't cooperate with her, no matter what she did. She was used to stubborn, hard to work with Pokemon. But this was something else entirely, and it was frustrating her to no end. She knew losing her patience with the Pokemon wouldn't do any good, but it was hard not to. Part of her was wondering if maybe she shouldn't have gone for this one, but she'd wanted a challenge, and it seemed like a good idea at the time. She did't know she was going to bite off a lot more than she could chew. The Pokemon Center wasn't far from where they had been training, at least. She was grumbling to herself internally about the Pokemon, mind going a mile a minute on how to deal with it. She almost ran into one person coming out of the Pokemon Center, and she definitely missed seeing Elinda as she approached the counter. She was obviously distracted in her own mind as she handed the Pokeballs over to the nurse, asking her to please heal them back up to full. She had tried everything she could think of, aside from putting them in real danger and seeing what happened. She didn't want to resort to that if she didn't have to, but she didn't know what else to do. She was even debating going to far as to post an query on the board in the Pokemon Center for help. Someone else might think of something she hadn't, and could give her a hand, right? We're painted red to fit right in
Well, that was odd, albeit rather telling.
Elinda wasn't all that used to people who were looking to meet her simply walking right past - it was awfully difficult to miss the red coat, but that was exactly what Honoka had done as the younger woman entered the Pokemon Center. Elinda herself had almost missed the younger trainer due to the girl simply blending into the people around them better with far less flashy clothing, but as Honoka swept into the Pokemon Center Elinda's first thought had been of trouble. Their earlier phone call had been rather illuminating in the sense that it was a familiar problem to a degree. Rock and Steel types tended to be stubborn by nature, and Onix in particular could be incredibly dangerous if not properly handled. "Control" wasn't the proper word for this and Honoka had seemed to understand that, although part of Elinda was wondering if something else had gone wrong and resulted in some sort of injury trying to tame the much larger Pokemon.
Far as Elinda could remember none of Honoka's team were anywhere near as big, and that size difference could mean a lot of pain if one wasn't careful.
"Nothing too serious, I trust?" Elinda started, swinging around to follow Honoka through the Pokemon Center's front doors as the younger trainer approached the front counter and handed the nurse her Pokemon. At least Honoka herself seemed to be doing well enough - no immediately visible injuries or anything of the like.
"At any rate, as discussed. Acquired him from a friend and he's a bit spoiled, but should change with time and maturity. Regardless, he's small enough that you shouldn't have any trouble managing him." Elinda continued, reaching down to pluck one of the newer, unblemished Pokeballs free of her belt and placing it on the counter next to Honoka where she could easily reach it. Rock types had never really been Elinda's speed, and while she could make use of them it was likely a better idea to find a welcoming home for the Bonsly instead. Going off of how well Honoka had cared for Skarmory before Elinda's acquisition of the Steel type it seemed like as good a fit as any, and baby Pokemon tended to be a better fit for newer trainers to begin with. More to the point... from what Elinda could remember Honoka likely had more than enough experience in that regard as ranches often saw plenty of such Pokemon in their line of work.
"So how's the big boy? You mentioned he was giving you a bit of trouble." Elinda said, leaning forward onto the counter to get a bit of a better look at Honoka's expression.

Honoka turned in surprise, jumping a bit, at Elinda's voice. She had been so lost in thought she had missed her entirely. She hadn't even noticed her when she walked into the Pokemon Center, even though Elinda had followed her right in. "Oh!" she exclaimed. "Oh, sorry Elinda, I missed you entirely. Yeah, no, just a training attempt gone kind of awry. No one ended up too hurt." She picked up the ball that Elinda placed on the counter, examining it as if she could see through it, and gave a wry chuckle. "He can't be any worse than the one you're getting." Hell, it would probably be a cake walk compared to the Onix. Speaking of. She grimaced, turning toward Elinda, leaning sideways on the counter. "A bit of trouble is an understatement. He's so... frustrating! And he seems to have a personal vendetta against me! I don't know what it is!" She threw her arms up in the air. "He opposes everything I do, attacks anything in sight, including friendly Pokemon. When he does listen, he has absolutely no regard for teammates. He nearly squashed my Riolu, started a full blown fight between him, Sneasel, and of all of them, my Geodude. Threw me off my feet with Rock Throw, promting Dratini to attack in kind. He's incorrigible! He's unfathomably stubborn and hardheaded, and frankly, he's an ass."She turned back to the counter and whacked her forehead forcefully against the counter top. The nurse turned then, admonishing her lightly for such an action, returning her Pokeballs to her. Honoka grabbed one and pushed it toward Elinda. "Seriously, I don't know what to do with him. I can't seem to do anything that makes him cooperate. I don't know if you can do any better, but I certainly hope you manage. He's skillful, and way too smart for his own good. He's more than willing to battle on his own in his way, so I honestly wish you luck fitting him in to your team. Maybe he'd be better off as a singular fighter, I don't know." She lifted her head off the counter, leaning on her forearms now, head turned back to Elinda. "He's so frustrating."MADE BY VEL OF GS

We're painted red to fit right in
Frankly speaking that all sounded about par for the course as far as Onix in general were concerned. Elinda was no stranger to the species - there'd been a wild one living practically in her back yard growing up, and she'd never been able to really beat it in a fight before leaving home. It hadn't been until years later during her few months of imposed exile that the blond had found it again and battled it, and that had still been one of the hardest fights she'd ever experienced against a wild Pokemon. More to the point she'd still failed to capture it, a first for her adult trainer career.
Then again they seemed to be a general mix of extremes. Plenty of them were brutes as this one was, but they also had a habit of being incredibly protective of those they liked. It seemed to be a random roll of the dice without knowing what the Pokemon's particular upbringing happened to be, but there were ways around that. Metagross had been nigh uncontrollable for the longest time - he did what he wanted when he wanted, and Elinda's well being just so happened to top his list of priorities. That didn't mean he wouldn't disobey an order if he felt he knew better, and it was largely luck on Elinda's part that he usually did in such cases. Regardless, that wasn't how it worked anymore and if she'd been able to win that monster over Elinda doubted she'd have much trouble with this Onix.
Worst case scenario? Either Scizor or Metang would be able to crush him in a one on one fight and that wasn't even taking Staryu into account, so keeping him in line wouldn't be too difficult if it really came down to that.
"Oh, I think I'll manage. It won't be the first Pokemon I've had able to think for themselves." Elinda replied, accepting the Pokeball that Honoka shoved in her direction and clipping the orb to the place Bonsly's Pokeball had once been on her belt. If anything that came as something of a bonus, and Elinda suspected it would be a good starting place to begin breaking Onix in - mutual common ground. Much of her battle style relied almost entirely on her Pokemon being able to think and make decisions for themselves, and if Onix wanted to do that Elinda had no objections. It'd smooth the transition over at least, and so long as their roles were defined in a way that the Pokemon was willing to accept it really only left the issue of the Rock Snake not being a team player to contend with.
There were ways around that, though, and it would come with time.
"Anyways, a pleasure as always. Anything else we need or should we be about done? Still have something else to attend to and could use the time to acquaint myself with Onix beforehand." Elinda continued, glancing to Honoka.

She stood properly again and affixed the Pokeballs to her belt, including the new one holding the Bonsly. She drew in another deep breath, letting it out in a huffed sigh. And here she thought Dragon Types were a handful. And they were, but that Onix was too much for her at this point in time. Maybe if she was a better trainer. Though, if she encountered a different Pokemon like it, she may enlist Elinda's help next time instead of trading. This time, she knew Elinda had been looking for one, and this particular one was more than she was able to handle, so it worked out. Hopefully. "Yeah, no, I have a thing too. I wish you the best of luck with the Onix. Good luck with your something else." She'd give Elinda an encouraging grin, patting the pokeballs in her belt idly. "Suppose I ought to get acquainted with my new Bonsly. See you later."MADE BY VEL OF GS
