A long hike to Northern Stellara resulted in a grand payoff for Everett as he reached the lakefront of Polaris Lake. It was beautiful and serene, and he thought it the perfect place to camp out while his housing application was being processed in Cygni City. He planned to spend the next few days here, training his team up so they would be prepared to take on their first Gym within the next week or so.
Caesar was following along, as usual. He seemed more full of energy than usual. In fact, it even seemed that his bulb was growing larger than normal. Everett wondered if the bulb was producing more sap to keep up with Bolin's sap addiction.
"We're finally here," he gasped. "Time for a few days of great training, eh, Caesar?"
"(I'm ready for anything!)" Caesar barked. "(It's time to get everyone whipped into shape!)"
Smiling, Everett picked three Poke Balls out of his Bag and threw them out, summoning the rest of his team. Mango, Bolin, and Faust all stood and stared at their Trainer expectantly. "Alright, team," he shouted. "Let's get to work!"

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
Vincent had been on Polaris Lake a few times now.
It was a tranquil location to relax or even train, if you could ignore the rumors of a dangerous beast lurking the depths of the lake. It wasn't a wonder that you could find a few trainers or even sighseers coming and going across this place, the trainers more so than the common folks though you could find the random fisherman or two across the murky surface of Polaris Lake.
But right now it seemed that it was mostly deserted, except for a trainer and his myriad of Pokemon he carried with him. Vincent came across the sight of Everett surrounded by his Pokemon, and since he was already close by and it would be a bit awkward to just pass them by without saying anything, he waved to them in greeting as he approached. "You certainly got an interesting sort of Pokemon here." He noted casually, his stern face not really changing expression though his tone wasn't hostile by any means.

The team's training didn't take long to get started. Caesar stayed as far away from Bolin as possible so he wasn't distracted by the delicious sap in his bulb. Mango, meanwhile, was eager to take a crack at Bolin again, after their last battle had gone so poorly. The two of them went off to have their own fight, while sticking close enough to their Trainer in case something went wrong.
Caesar, meanwhile, was stuck with Faust. He was still a little wary of the little ghost after the incident in Cygni City, but he knew that the little guy meant well. He was really passionate about his dreams, even if they were a little out of his reach. "(Let's see what you've got, Faust!)" Caesar encouraged. "(Just...maybe keep the costume on this time, okay?)"
Faust didn't really say anything. Nobody was sure if Faust was even capable of speech yet, but he seemed to get the message.
While Everett watched and passively directed his team, he noticed the presence of another human. He turned to find a very large man coming towards him, making a note of his varied team. "Well, thanks!" he said casually. "I've been gathering a team to take on the Gyms here, and so far it seems to be going pretty well!" He stuck out his hand in a preemptive greeting, going for a handshake. "My name's Everett Mercer, and I'm a Trainer. Pleasure to meet you!"

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
Vincent blinked before taking a second look at his team, seeing how diverse their typing was for some of them like the Mimikyu and the Heracross. The Bulbasaur would turn into a tanky Pokemon once it fully evolved as well, and he nodded approvingly. "It's clear that you take good care of your Pokemon, even if they're freshly caught." It was noticeable to his eyes, since it was clear there wasn't a bond there yet but it was slowly forming little by little.
"The name's Vincent, Vincent Valentine." He shook the young man's hand with a firm shake. "Likewise. What gym are you planning on taking first?" He asked out of curiosity, just as the pokeball clipped to his belt began to wiggle and shake before it burst open, releasing the Pokemon contained within.
A Litten materialized beside him, letting out a yawn and cleaning his face with a paw in a disinterested manner. "This is Cinder." Vincent said, earning a flick of the ear from the Fire Cat Pokemon but not much else.

Everett took a moment to commit Vincent's name to memory. He had been meeting quite a few friendly sorts since arriving in Stellara, but he was pretty bad with names, so he hoped he wouldn't forget. "Vincent...got it!" Vincent followed up by asking which Gym Everett planned on challenging. "I haven't really put much thought into it, yet. Not sure what types each Gym specializes in, either."
At the same moment, one of Vincent's Pokemon popped out of it's Poke Ball. Everett gasped and checked his Pokedex, which told him that it was a Litten. "So cute!" he gushed. It seemed disinterested.
Meanwhile, it seemed the team was having fun training together. Mango and Bolin were having a spirited fight, with Bolin holding his own despite the type disadvantage again. Caesar and Faust were going through some of the Mimikyu's moves, and Caesar was being extra careful not to get a glimpse of what was underneath his sheet.
"So, the Rufflet and Heracross over there are Mango and Bolin," Everett introduced, "and the other two are Caesar and Faust!"

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
The Litten accepted the praise graciously, puffing his chest and smirking smugly and earning an eyeroll from Vincent. "Don't pamper him with praises or he's gonna become lazy and complacent." Vincent drawled sardonically, earning a deadpan stare from his Litten and if he had human hands the Litten would have been flipping him the bird right this moment.
"Jokes aside, each Gym normally specializes on a certain type." He tilted his head to the side, remembering some tips and advise his Father had given him before he started his journey. "That said, even if you bring something that counters their Typing, you might still be blindsided by what they might have up their sleeve." He shrugged his shoulders after a beat. "As far as I can see, you have two Pokemon that are weak to the Fire-Type at the moment, one that resist it and another that takes neutral damage, so while you might have a small disadvantage there you might pull a win if you strategize."

"Hmmm..." Everett put some thought into Vincent's words, getting an idea of his next move. "I guess my team would probably do well against Water type Pokemon. Maybe there's a Water type Gym somewhere in the area?"
The team continued their training heartily. Caesar discovered that Faust was capable of using the move Wood Hammer, which would come in handy against a Water type Leader. He seemed satisfied with the newcomer, noting his combat capability. It seemed that the whole "performer" idea would maybe help in that regard, too.
Bolin and Mango, meanwhile, were still hard at work. Mango flew around the air at ridiculously high speeds, occasionally swooping down to try and strike Bolin. The Heracross, however, stood his ground and would meet the strikes with equal force. The two of them were still pretty young and inexperienced, but their battle felt weighted and personal. Mango seemed to hold a grudge against Bolin for the loss he had been handed upon their first meeting.
Everett looked over at his team training away. "I probably should help them out. Wouldn't be much of a Trainer if I didn't help my team train! Would you two care to join us?"

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
Vincent nodded. "That'd be the Baltis City Gym, it's fairly close to Polaris Lake if I recall. You might have luck there if you choose to challenge the Gym." Though he spoke about type advantages, he was a firm believer that any Pokemon could still win even with type disadvantage and weaknesses, it all depended on the Pokemon's will to push forward and break their limits.
Hearing some noises, he turned his sights on the spar taking place between Everett's Pokemon, noting how it seemed like it was a bit more personal than normal but merely chalked it up to a rivalry forming between his Pokemon, as it usually happened with conflicting or clashing personalities.
Some people might think that raising and training Pokemon was all fun and games, but it was sometimes a test in patience and almost like you were the chaperone for a group of misbehaving children. He snorted at the thought, waving away Cinder's look of confusion with a dismissive wave of the hand.
"Sure, I don't have anything better to do at the moment." Vincent shrugged and would accompany Everett if he started towards his Pokemon. "What do you need help with?" He asked curiously, as there was a multitude of things a trainer could do to train their Pokemon in certain aspects, so he figured it was safe to ask so he'd know what he was getting himself into.

Everett thought about what Vincent could help with. Truth be told, he wasn't too sure. "I guess coming up with and testing a few strategies I've been working on would be helpful," he mused. "I also wanna see what my Mimikyu can really do, since he hasn't really gotten into a fight yet." Truth be told, Everett was still unaware of Faust's true form, which to this point had only been revealed to Caesar when they first met. His moves were still a mystery, too. Getting the opportunity to bond with his team a little more was something that Everett sorely needed, and was part of the reason he had come up to the lake.
Mango and Bolin seemed to finish their fight. It was unclear who had actually won, but whatever had happened between the two of them, it seemed that they were at least on better terms and not bitter rivals anymore. Everett was glad to see them walking up so close together, as teammates who didn't work together very well wouldn't be much use in a real battle.

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
Vincent blinked at the strange admission before raising an eyebrow. "Have you tried scanning your Pokemon with the Pokedex? It might offer you some valuable information besides their entry in the Pokemon Encyclopedia. That's what I did for Cinder the moment I got him." It was why he knew the Fire Cat Pokemon could perform the move Body Slam -- a move that Litten couldn't learn naturally as far as he was aware besides through breeding methods.
He shook his next. "Regardless, if you want your Pokemon to acquire some battle experience, I'll be happy to offer some assistance." He grinned, the expression almost feral in its intensity. Cinder for his part also seemed ready to rumble, given how his tail seemed to flicker to and fro in agitation.

ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE Funnily enough, Everett had never really considered checking the Pokedex to see what his Pokemon's moves were. He went through and scanned each of his Pokemon again, thoroughly checking each of their moves. To his surprise, Faust and Caesar had some neat moves up their sleeves! He had no idea that little Caesar was capable of using Leaf Storm. "This is really cool!" he said. "It might even make that Baltis City Gym battle way easier!" He was clearly excited, and was formulating strategies in his head immediately.Vincent, meanwhile, offered to help Everett's training by challenging him to a mock battle. The grin on Vincent's face told Everett that he was a pretty intense guy. That was something that Everett could get behind! He smirked a little bit. "I'd love a quick battle!" He turned to his team and threw his arms out wide. "Who's stepping up to the plate?"Caesar took one look at the Litten and realized that he would be outmatched pretty hard. He stepped back. Bolin normally would've been excited for the challenge, but he was tired from his fight with Mango. Mango puffed out his chest and tried to look as tough as possible so Everett would pick him, but it was clear that he was just as exhausted as Bolin. That left just one option. "Faust, are you up to it?" Everett asked. Faust still didn't seem to be capable of voicing his opinion, but he shuffled his way up to his Trainer and seemed to look ready for combat. Though he was cute to Everett, the way he presented himself in the current moment was somehow...ominous. "I'm ready if you are!" Everett said, happily turning around to Vincent. "Let's have a good battle!"tags ✖ notes

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
Vincent smirked in amusement at the male's easily excited personality. "While indeed the Pokedex is a valuable tool for any trainer, don't just rely on it every time -- experiment a little! You never know what you or your Pokemons might be able to do." It was something that his Father drilled into the back of his head until it stuck, many times he had to deal with snotty busybodies that believed just because a Pokemon didn't seem capable of doing something that it couldn't do it no matter how hard it tried, while also spouting about mathematical diagrams and other such bullshit that flew over his Father's head at the time.
He watched with a shrewd gaze as the male asked for a volunteer in the lot of Pokemon that he had under his belt, most of them seemed tired or didn't want to step up because of the Type Disadvantage, which made him frown but he rationalized that with time they'd become more confident in their abilities.
Finally, the Mimikyu stepped forward, and both Trainer and Pokemon felt a bead of sweat trail down the side of their heads as an ominous feeling washed over them, like the feeling you'd describe from someone walking over your grave. With a shake of the head, Cinder stepped forward valiantly, he wouldn't let some eerie feeling stop him from this battle!
Tough from Trainer and Pokemon could agree with one another that the Mimikyu was scary...
The human male smirked, excitement dancing in his eyes. "A battle to be proud of..." He pumped a clenched fist in front of his chest. "Let's do our best!" Looking at Cinder, the male gave the first command to start the battle. "Let's start things off with Ember, Cinder!"
Immediately, the Fire Cat Pokemon took a deep breath before shooting a barrage of fire pellets at the Disguise Pokemon, but he didn't remain stationary for long, as he began to run sideways while continuing to shoot Embers at Faust to see what it'd do. For his part, Vincent watched with attentive eyes, he hadn't seen a Mimikyu in the wild, so he didn't know what it was able to do, so this would be a learning experience for him.
Sure, he could take out his Pokedex and just scan it, but where would be the fun in that? This was a mock battle, not something like a Gym Battle where he'd actually done such a thing to not be caught unaware.

ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE Vincent and Cinder wasted no time in getting the battle underway. The Litten began with a barrage of small fireballs that headed straight for Faust. Everett was nervous, since this was Faust's debut performance, but already had a plan with the moves that the Pokedex told him Faust possessed. "Use Double Team!"Faust, quickly obliging, somehow managed to create a copy of himself. Two Mimikyu suddenly became four, and then eight. Finally, stretching himself to his limit, Faust managed to create sixteen illusionary copies of himself. Unfortunately, most of them didn't last long, as Cinder's Ember attack hit the mark. All the clones were wiped out, but the original Faust was still standing, seemingly unharmed.Everett, however, wasn't done. "Follow up with Astonish!" He wasn't sure what that move would do, but hopefully it would leave an opening! Faust inched his way closer to Cinder, letting the aura of his true form leak out a little bit underneath his sheet. It would truly be a terrifying sight to anyone who wasn't strong-willed enough, but it wouldn't cause the same effect that it had on Caesar before. Once he got close enough, he would try to make Cinder flinch by making a terrifying shriek, causing him to be unable to move.tags ✖ notes

LAKEFRONT RIVALRY
The tall muscular young man grunted under his breath at the quick thinking coming from Everett, he could have easily asked his Pokemon to simply dodge, but that would have still let it wide open for the barrage of burning pellets flying through the air. Sound thinking, but it wasn't over yet as he made his next move upon the two of them.
Cinder braced himself as the Mimikyu stepped closer, a malicious aura surrounding the Disguise Pokemon, making a bead of sweat trail down the side of his furry head. Closer and closer the Mimikyu got, and just when Cinder was about to pounce with a Body Slam, it attacked with an ear-splitting screech, earning a yowl of indignation from the Fire Cat Pokemon as it crouched low, his paws going to his ears to mitigate the noise that wanted to split his head open.
"Snap out of it, Cinder!" Vincent called out worriedly, yet Cinder didn't seem to respond, still trying to stop the ringing noise echoing deep inside his skull. The human gritted his teeth in annoyance, with the way his Litten was acting at the moment he was a wide open target for whatever the Mimikyu wanted to do next, unless Cinder managed to snap out of it at the last second, he was about to be in a world of pain.

ECHOES, SILENCE, PATIENCE & GRACE The team looked on in shock as Faust swiftly gained the upper hand on his opponent. They didn't think he was really capable of much. Even Bolin and Mango, two Pokemon who were proud of their battling capabilities, were stunned with their jaws dropped. The terrifying aura that he exuded also gave Caesar an all-too-familiar chill.
Everett, meanwhile, was ecstatic to see his new partner doing so well. It seemed that Cinder was too nervous to move, so this was the perfect opportunity to strike! "Now, Wood Hammer!" he called, wanting to try out the most interesting of Faust's moves.Faust began to skid across the battlefield like a waterbug before leaping into the air in front of the stunned Litten. The Mimikyu's tail began to glow with a wispy, dark-purple aura and seemed to grow larger before everyone's eyes. With a bit of exertion, Faust flipped around and brought his tail down on his opponent. The effort of doing so seemed to cause him a bit of pain.
