Silas doesn't have the most impressive, nor the happiest, background. His parents spent so much time fighting that they seemed to forget that they had two sons to take care of. His parents spent most of their money on booze, cigarettes, and food for themselves, leaving only scraps behind for the kids to fight over.

When Silas' brother Derek, who is his senior by eight years, got into his teenage years, he'd use his Pokemon to steal food from stores and friends' houses to bring home for his brother. By this point, Silas looked at his brother as more of a father figure than another person to fight with, and Derek took him under his wing, teaching him how to care for himself. "I won't always be around," he'd tell the young boy. "You need to learn."

When Silas was about ten years old, he returned home in the afternoon to find his brother was gone. He tried to ask his parents where Derek went, but they didn't know and they didn't care. Silas went into his room, sat down against his door, and sobbed.

After about an hour, a thump startled him. He looked up to find a wiggling Pokeball with a sticky note attached. He crawled to it and peeled the note off the ball, wiping the tears from his eyes so he could read it.

"You don't need me any more, but I figured you'd want some company. His name is Chaos. Take good care of him and he'll return the favor. Good luck out there, little brother."

Silas grabbed the Pokeball and slid it into his pocket, then climbed out of his bedroom window and dashed into the nearby woods. His parents had ruled long ago that Pokemon were not welcome in their home or in their sight.
