The Kaxyl Forest was a lot more like the Petalburg Woods back home than the Yanna Jungle had been, a certain familiarity to the biome that even her time in Alola's Lush Jungle a few months prior couldn't shake. That particular aroma of earth and deciduous trees mixing with the heady scent of berries lost on the ground, scattered and uneaten as they began to ferment and rot took Shiori back to fond memories of traveling through her first region back home in Hoenn. She'd traveled the woods with a different party of plants as well, most noticeably missing a Treecko of her own back then. Ryusuke's babysitter of a partner was a Treecko, but Shiori's had been something a little less glamorous. She wondered how the now Shiftry was doing, living at her family's home and patrolling the area while occasionally helping her father out with tasks.
"I really should call home sometime." She said aloud to no one in particular, though Queenie did perk up. " I never even told Mom or Dad I was coming to Stellara after their last phone call."
Even though the girl's mind was elsewhere, she was still Shiori Ugumi in the end. The forests of the world were like a second home to her, and the Bounsweet in her arms the perfect partner. She'd even managed to capture two more grass types around the Yanna Jungle, and the Treecko marching to her right side was proof enough of that given how they'd earned Leafie's trust. The Bulbasaur to her left, occasionally staring up at Queenie, was far younger and had been a rescue operation. Shiori nodded her head to both and gave a brazen grin.
"Today, girls, we're growing our little garden just a little bit more."

A Ledyba buzzed past the quartet, but Shiori paid it little mind. The only thing a bug and flying type like Ledyba was to her party was a threat, not a potential ally.
(I don't like this forest much Queenie....) The bulbasaur began, her eyes following the Ledyba across the sky.
(No worries Posie. We're a three 'mon team now, right Leafie?)
The Treecko, having kept a militant watch, turned her yellow gaze towards the Bulbasaur.
(Stop showing your weakness all the time.) She blanched slightly as tears stung the Bulbasaur's eyes.
(Way to go, you heartless gecko.) The Bounsweet said, hopping out of her trainer's arms to console the Bulbasaur. (You know she just left her nest, right?)
(What of it?) The Treecko retorted, temper flaring, (We're all relatively young. We can't stay infantile for the rest of our lives, especially if it inconveniences our Lady Shiori.)
(Don't you try to tell me how Shiori feels, lizard!)
"Girls, girls!" Shiori finally stopped the escalating argument between her Pokemon. "We're a team, remember?" She looked at the Treecko and at the Bounsweet like a teacher scolding two students. "Obviously we're going to need to get used to each other, but if we're gonna win and grow stronger we do it together."
--- Passing on Ledyba.

Shiori's speech having broken up the little spat her Pokemon seemed to be going through, the girl turned back around with a sigh. Of course things weren't going to go smoothly with each addition to her team; her past experiences had taught her that and more. It took time for the bonds of friendship to form between teammates, and between new Pokemon and their trainer. She'd gotten lucky with Posie following along as long as Queenie was around, and Leafie's stalwart nature and dedication were invaluable. Of course, life didn't always throw easy, comfortable things at a trainer, did it?
Case in point, as the girl and her moving garden continued into the forest she slipped on a tree root, losing her balance in the moment. It was embarrassing in retrospect, but in the moment it was terrifying as Shiori only had time to fling her arms to the side to catch herself. She collided with the tree heavily, and her Pokemon darted around her to see if she was alright.
"I'm okay." Shiori finally said, her heart beat settling down as she slid and sunk to the forest floor. "Just a shoulder bruise most likely, and a bit of a sting in the wrist." She laughed it off slightly. "It was silly of me to not pay attention to the moss growing on that root I guess."
From the hollow within the tree, a scant few inches above where Shiori had impacted, a harrumph would come and a beady eyed glare as a head twisted about.
(We're just glad you're okay!) Queenie shouted, hopping into Shiori's lap. The little Bounsweet, moreso than anyone else, had come to rely on Shiori for much. She couldn't imagine what she would do if the girl was hurt on her watch.
"Oh, it's okay Queenie. I was just a bit of a klutz. Not my proudest moment."
The Treecko nodded sagely. Humans were interesting creatures, true, but they did lack some of the natural grace that Pokemon had in their element in her experience. It also didn't hurt that the forest was prime territory for Pokemon like them.
Leafie's musings were interrupted by a voice from up above.
(Would you keep it down a'ready? I'm tryna sleep up here.)
The girl glanced up, recognizing the call of the Pokemon with a wide eyed bit of wonder. Stellara had proven itself home to many Pokemon so far, yet who would've thought another Alolan grass-type, and one that rare, would be there?
Leafie, for her part, wasn't having any of it.
(Show yourself!) She cried to the hollow before leaping up in a practiced ease. She was met with a twisting body in the tree trunk that, as the sun moved in the sky lightly, became completely illuminated.
The Rowlet was wedged in a shallow hollow that was cramped and dark around her until the few hours of afternoon light permeated the canopy above and a beam spotlighted her perch. It was perfect for photosynthesis and as a day time hiding hole.
(Eh....I don't really wanna.) The Rowlet replied.
Shiori scrambled to her feet, looking at the grass quill Pokemon loafing in the tree hollow. Her eyes were glowing at the find.
Queenie, however, seemed less than enthusiastic. It was a bird; she hated birds, even ones native to her Lush Jungle and the Alolan Isles. Who was to say that the Rowlet wasn't going to try eating her sometime?
(I was havin' such a nice dream. Chasing down Ratata for dinner. Shoo.) The Rowlet said, twisting back around to put her face to the inside as her rear absorbed the sunlight. The Treecko reached in to grab at the owl, but found herself repelled by a dart of sharp leaves zipping past her head and thudding into the tree with expert accuracy.
"I can't let this chance pass me by. Leafie, get that cutie out here!" Shiori called up.
The Treecko could only think that it was easier said than done, given the leaf-quills that the Rowlet was launching every time she stuck her face near the hollow's opening.
"Think smarter Leafie! Use Pound on the tree!" Shiori called up.
The Treecko, not quite sure, spun and smacked the tree with her tail. The resounding thud echoed through the forest, but in the hollow? It was like being trapped in a wooden bell. The Rowlet fell out in a huff before groaning.
(Sheesh!) The owl's small wings opened and it spun, launching several leaves at the Treecko that pierced into the tree around her as she dodged. (Get outta here! I need my beauty sleep before tonight y'know!)
"Now, Leafie, give it a taste of your Leer!" Shiori called. The gecko darted from branch to branch before hopping in front of the Rowlet's hover, her yellow eyes leering ominously at the Rowlet.
(Yeowch.) The Rowlet winced back from the Treecko's glare, (You really need to work on your people skills, freak.) The Rowlet's own eyes began to glow and ominous purple before lashing out in a phantasmal ray that struck the Treecko.
Shiori's eyes narrowed as Leafie missed her landing following the attack, falling to the forest floor. The Treecko righted herself but still seemed wobbly on her legs. Confusion? Given the way she spun and whacked her face on the trunk, that would seem to be the case. At least she seemed to snap out of it after taking the hit, though Shiori only had time to cry.
"Behind you, Leafie!"
The Rowlet had followed the Treecko down and spun into a nasty tackle, launching her against the tree, before also producing several leaves from a flap of her wings to unleash a Leafage on the Treecko.
The fall, the leafage, and the smack of her own damage added to the Tackle caused the Treecko to slump against the tree before snapping her head up, a vicious expression on her face.
(L-leafie?) Queenie asked, before watching the Treecko launch herself at the Rowlet. Her movements were erratic, hardly the calculated fighting style she preferred, and she swung and spun, a faint green aura flickering about her.
"Overgrow..." Shiori whispered before biting the tip of her thumb. It was a rare ability amidst grass types, one also possessed by Posie. It was why she was so careful to avoid having either battle too hard; the increase in their power came at the cost of their senses while they were still so young.
The Rowlet, for what it was worth, was managing to dodge most of the enraged Gecko's attacks by flapping to the side or shifting in the air. Queenie narrowed her eyes slightly at the sight. (Damn bird.)
"Telling her to calm down would be pointless." Shiori said, more to herself than her Pokemon. It was a bad sign that even under the influence of Overgrow the Treecko was struggling against the Rowlet. Leafie went for an empowered Absorb that struck true, but even so the Rowlet barely flinched at the hit. As a Flying and a Grass type, weak grass move like that barely registered to the bird.
The Rowlet evaded a Pound before Tackling the Treecko mid air and edging her back towards Shiori and her team.
(Have fun!) The Rowlet cooed before perching on the branch.
The Treecko, berserk with the power of her ability and injured heavily from her uphill battle with the Rowlet, darted forward, lunging at Shiori. The girl raised and arm in a futile attempt to intercept the attack, but the impact never came. She opened her eyes to see Queenie spinning with a Rapid Spin, bouncing herself off of the Treecko and keeping her away from her trainer. Shiori, seeing her Bounsweet come to her defense, snapped out of it long enough to return Leafie to her Pokeball.
(Awwww. That's no fun. Guess I'm outta here.) The Rowlet flapped from her perch, moderately injured but in far better shape than her opponent, and made to fly off. However, before she could get there, she found herself lulling off to sleep midair. (Huh....wha?) The Rowlet yawned, trying to stay afloat before gliding to the ground and plopping down. (I need to get aw-) Before she could complete her sentence, the Rowlet dozed off and Posie stepped from the shadows she'd slipped into during the fight, a leaf held over her pursed lips by a vine from her back and a haunting trill being played upon it. Grass types were immune to many grass type status attacks, but not Grass Whistle; the Bulbasaur had taken the gamble on stopping the Rowlet when her trainer had returned the Treecko.
Shiori walked over to the snoozing Rowlet, staring down at the bird. Queenie hopped beside her with a glare.
(More trouble than she's worth.) Queenie interjected when she watched Shiori pelt the sleeping bird with a Pokeball. (And she's a bird. Probably no better than a Trumbeak!)
Shiori watched the ball jostle once, twice, and settle.
"It was a difficult battle," She mused, "but that was great thinking on your part Posie. We couldn't let all of Leafie's work go to waste, could we?" The girl bent down to pick up the Pokeball before turning to Queenie with a smile. "And thank you Queenie. If you hadn't been there, I don't know what would've happened."
Regardless of the difficulty of her capture though, Shiori still had a dark smile playing upon her face. A Pokemon with enough natural battle ability to go toe to toe with Leafie to the point she'd sent the Treecko into Overgrow territory with minimal scratches? That was a Pokemon more than worth her time and effort to train.
--------- Catch Attempt!
NAME — Birdie LEVEL — 6 SPECIES — Rowlet, the Grass Quill Pokemon TYPE — Grass / Flying EGG GROUP — Flying ABILITY — Overgrow HELD ITEM — N/A GENDER — Female HEIGHT — 1' 00" WEIGHT — 3.3 lbs MOVE LIST — Leafage, Growl, Tackle, Confuse Ray
PERSONALITY — Birdie's slightly crass mannerisms and speech come from a life of relative relaxation in the Kaxyl Forest before being captured by Shiori and her team. She loves a routine, and her normal routine consisted of sleeping and photosynthesizing all day while hunting for yummy rodents at night. She was used to it, comfortable with it, and she's gonna miss it in the coming days as she adjusts to being on a Pokemon team. She values her beauty sleep above all else, prematurely being a preener before she even evolves so who knows how neurotic she'll become about her looks after evolving. Attempting to disrupt her sleep will at best get a wise crack from the owl and at worst a Leafage to your face. As the lone bird on the team, even with her grass typing she sometimes feels like a bit of a loner. Though deep down she wishes she could easily make friends like Posie and Queenie seem to, the Bounsweet doesn't trust her and the Treecko, Leafie, still seeks a rematch for the humiliation the Rowlet visited on her.
Though she's rather lazy, Birdie possesses a tactical fighting style that emphasizes her ability to move about the sky and sow confusion amidst her enemies. She taunts her enemies and shows a bit of a sadistic streak at times, though when the going gets tough (or boring) she's likely to try to fly off instead of ruffling her own feathers.
