Shiori Ugumi
NAME — Shiori Ugumi
AGE — 14
GENDER — Female
SEXUALITY — Heterosexual
TRAINER CLASSES —
- Type Specialist (Grass)
Shiori grew up loving flowers and plants, so much so that when she became a Pokemon trainer she decided to use them exclusively. Her knowledge of grass types has been honed for the past three years into something as sharp as a Razor Leaf, even though she always opts to send her grass types home when starting out on a new branch of a journey.
- Tactician
Shiori's no slouch when it came to academic subjects in school, and her decision to train grass types exclusively was one that led her to assess battle situations, particularly unfavorable match ups, and tests of patience. What better way to win than to wear your opponent out with strong defenses? The look in someone's eyes when they realize that her Pokemon can just keep regaining health brings the young woman a sick bit of glee.
- Ace Trainer
Growing up with her parents, Shiori learned much about Pokemon before she was even allowed to train them herself. How many times had she sat on Metagross's back when her mother was doing rounds in the nearby Safari Zone, just taking notes of the Pokemon around her? Though she doesn't opt to train anything other than grass types, her skills as a trainer are nothing to scoff at.

Hitting a growth spurt a year ago, Shiori’s grown at least a foot in the past year and begun to develop into more of a woman with each passing day. Going bra-shopping with Nurse Joy instead of your mother for the first time is an experience perhaps unique only to travelling girl trainers, but we digress. Shiori’s body is supple and curved, yet underneath the soft layer of fat lies a fairly respectable amount of muscle born from her journeys with her Pokemon. As a wandering trainer, she can walk for hours a day without tiring it seems, as long as she recalls to take a drink every once in awhile from her pack.
Shiori has a similar coloration as her elder brother, gaining hair that was only a few shades different of yellow than her eyes. She accents this oddity by wearing small pops of yellow in her outfits, accessorizing with ribbons and the occasional chunk of amber. Her outfits err towards the feminine side, and Shiori adores the flounce of a good skirt around her thighs offset by high hiking boots.
PERSONALITY
Shiori inherited her family’s intelligence along with a wicked sense of humor that, coupled with a minor mean streak, left her slightly prone to petty mischief at other’s expense. The unfortunate victim of these impulses in her youth was her brother more often than not, but after leaving home the girl found herself focusing on more mature pursuits, such as training Pokemon. That said, there are still moments when Shiori feels the need to do something a little destructive to other people or be a little petty; heaven help the poor soul who gets on her bad side in those instances.
Despite her mischief making and bouts of spite though, Shiori’s still a social butterfly. With a wink and a laugh she can charm most people thanks to a level of charisma that’s all her own. She can avoid conflict with relative ease, and often uses her wiles to lull people into a false sense of security. How many people have been duped by a bat of her eyelashes or a pout into thinking she was utterly naïve, only to wind up with their entire Pokemon teams wiped out in the course of a battle? Her habit of teasing her opponent all the while leaves the question still a mystery, since few want to relieve the battle.
Surrounding herself with flowers at a young age, is it any wonder that the young woman took to working with grass types during her years as a trainer? Time and again she found herself at road blocks during her journeys based on type advantages, but still she persisted; people always seemed to write off grass type Pokemon for their many weaknesses without realizing their strengths. Shiori’s promised herself never to give up her dreams of proving to the world how powerful grass type Pokemon can be, of being a champion who uses them exclusively. As someone who’s traveled multiple regions though, it still breaks her heart a little each time she sends a team of Pokemon back home to be taken care of by her mother and father or to a Pokemon professor in various regions.
Shiori loves her family deeply, though she fled them at eleven to begin her career training Pokemon and to avoid letting her feelings of resentment fester. She knows better than to blame Ryusuke for what happened now, though the memory of those feelings still haunts her. She aspires to be like her mother more than her father someday, doing her best to live up to the stories she grew up on.
BACKGROUND
The younger child and only daughter of a pair of Pokemon trainers, Shiori Ugumi was born in the Hoenn region when her brother Ryusuke was only a year old. The proximity of their ages kept the pair in constant contact, and their parents rather busy. That said, the girl proved to be a bit more outspoken than her brother as she grew. Where Ryusuke’s quiet manner and intelligence wound up leading to him being an outcast, Shiori was more of a people person even as a child. It took her little more than a few honeyed words to get the majority of people wrapped around her finger, and she enjoyed doing it. She had the face of an angel, yet the smirk of a devil when a successful prank was pulled off. Especially when she managed to play one on her older brother.
Growing up, Shiori always felt a little jealous of the attention that Ryusuke got from their mother. Sure, he was the oldest, but he wasn’t a girl. She wanted more bonding time with her mom. Their father, perhaps sensing the discontent in Shiori’s heart, spent more time with her. Some girls became spoiled brats when they were daddy’s girls, but the Ugumi patriarch didn’t foster that sort of attitude. Shiori learned to rely on herself more than others, to be a strong young woman in her own right. He even built her a small greenhouse behind the house when the girl showed an aptitude for growing flowers and berries, even taking Shiori on the occasional trip to see the Pretty Petal flower shop or the Berry Master. Those moments are still impressed in the young girl’s heart as some of her happiest from her childhood.
Things changed during her youth when the accident happened. Ryusuke and her father were both practically crippled and Shiori was still so young she could barely wrap her head around it, home sick from school with her mother. Seeing the man who first taught her how to rig a bucket in a doorway trapped in a wheelchair and her brother suddenly missing half of his limbs was oddly sobering. In her tiny heart though, something blossomed that Shiori was entirely unfamiliar with; she directed the blame at Ryusuke. If their dad had stayed home with Shiori as he did when Ryusuke was under their mom’s feet, he wouldn’t have been hurt at all. All though part of her knew no one outside of Team Aqua was to blame, the white hot shame and anger she felt towards herself for feeling that way towards Ryusuke changed the girl’s attitude towards him. She became more distant than she once was, spending more time in the little greenhouse their father had made or wandering route 121 and the safari zone when her mother was at work. She felt guilty for not being there with them, even if it had meant she'd have gotten hurt as well.
Compounding her emotional turmoil was the way that their parents began to treat Ryusuke. Until that point, the pair had pretty evenly divided their time and affections, even if either took a child under their wing, but after the flood? Shiori’s birthday was foregone that year for a physical therapy appointment and she couldn’t even bring herself to voice discontent. She would be a bad sister and bad daughter if she distracted her family, if she made things about her, right? Regardless, her heart broke a little more with each passing day. Self-pity mixed with survivors guilt was not the recipe for a healthy emotional childhood.
At least she had an out; if she couldn’t help but feel like an added burden to her parents and brother with her own selfish feelings, she could at least leave on a journey. Shiori collected her first Pokemon on her eleventh birthday from a Pokemon Center and left her parents a note explaining her plan to travel. She hadn’t even bothered consulting or calling them until she had collected her first three badges. Shiori could prove her worth to herself, to her family by following in her parents’ footsteps. She bounced from region to region for the next few years, every time starting fresh with a new Pokemon to see how far she could go. In the Hoenn league she’d managed to collect five badges, in Johto four, and wound up in Alola for a few months before catching a boat to Stellara.
Her trip to the new region was prompted by a phone call from home and finding out her big brother had finally left for a journey of his own, by himself. She had a score to settle with Ryusuke, especially since she hadn’t seen him in years outside of the occasional video call. If he wanted to be a traveling trainer, who better to show him the ropes? She left her Alolan Pokemon with the local Professor, only opting to take a single hatchling she’d been given by a trainer in Lush Jungle whose Pokemon she adored and admired.
STARTER
NAME — Queenie

SPECIES — Bounsweet, the Fruit Pokemon
TYPE — Grass
EGG GROUP — Grass
ABILITY — Oblivious
HELD ITEM — N/A
GENDER — Female
HEIGHT — 1’ 2”
WEIGHT — 7.8 lbs
MOVE LIST — Splash, Play Nice, Play Rough (Egg Move)
PERSONALITY — Bounsweet may not be known for being particularly intelligent, but Queenie seems to break that mold. A little fruit Pokemon with a lot of moxie, she's well aware that bird Pokemon would rather eat her than befriend her, something her siblings back in Lush jungle just couldn't seem to grasp. Constantly butting heads with them over the intentions of the local Trumbeak, or just trying to explain how dangerous the world really was for little plants like themselves, exasperated her to no end. She's grateful to Shiori for taking her away from that mess and for the opportunity to grow stronger with a trainer. The fact that Shiori's only ever expressed interest in raising grass types has also given the Bounsweet a fair bit of security and comfort. To say she's slightly paranoid about bird Pokemon might be an understatement, truth be told. Given her history in the jungle, she's not above playing the big sister to other Pokemon, regardless of their size relation to hers.
