Darcy Quin
NAME — Darcy Quin
AGE — 19
GENDER — Male
SEXUALITY — Homosexual
TRAINER CLASSES —
- Type Specialist (Fairy)
During his time at the Day-Care Center, Darcy developed a strong connection with a pack of Snubbull left their by busy women working in the city who couldn’t keep their Pokemon with them all day. Coupled with his love of stories and fairy-tales, he researched Fairy types and found a kinship with the cute, sometimes enigmatic little fairies. The mythos and magic around some of them fascinates Darcy.
- Ace Trainer
Though he’s only just begun training Pokemon of his own in earnest, the year that Darcy spent with Lime left a lasting impression on the young man. His prior experience as a Pokemon breeder expounded Darcy’s learning with the Alolan trainer and allowed his natural talents to further flourish.

- Breeder
Darcy’s affiliation with the Day-Care couple outside of Goldenrod in recent years taught him a lot about raising Pokemon, specifically as a Pokemon breeder. He recognizes the importance of good grooming and care, and often pampers his Pokemon a little as a result.

The flat angle of his eyes peeking from the bottom edge of his bangs seems to hold a perpetual boredom at bay, or at least that’s what Darcy would like people to think. His fashion tends to emphasize comfort over couture, often featuring an array of hoodies and cardigans over simple t-shirts in lieu of anything particular daring; he also refuses to wear orange or yellow clothing, from some old experience in the past. He’s not particularly tall for a young man, and his build is relatively average as well. Most distinguishing in his physical features though would undoubtedly be the soft cantor of his voice when he does deign to speak up, or the rare light chuckle he offers. Comforting in lieu of conspiratory, Darcy’s voice is pretty pleasant to the ear.
Born the youngest child of five, Darcy was used to having to fight for his parents attention from a young age and realized early on it was a losing battle. He lacked the sharp tongue of his brothers and sisters, though not the quick wit. When you’re born into a family of stars though, what’s the point in trying to shine too brightly? He was far more content to keep his nose wedged in the pages of a dusty old book of tales.
Darcy doesn’t lack the ability to connect with other people per se, but he does have enough self doubt that he assumes most people would rather not. Awkward and shy to a fault, he’d still rather keep his nose pointed in the pages of a paper-back or encyclopedia instead of actually dealing with most people. Perhaps most surprising of all in contrast to his quiet, retiring mannerisms is the lengths that Darcy will go to help others worse off then he is. This comes from an intrinsic belief in the goodness of people that leaves him a little gullible at times. When he finds himself caught in his naivety, often at the sake of other’s laughter, the young man’s been known to retreat further into himself than before.
Darcy isn’t all quiet acquiescence and fluff though, especially when it comes to topics near and dear to his heart. He can debate the plotline of a story with a ferocity unseen in most interactions, and secretly dreams about the world around him as one big story. For much of his life, Darcy felt like a background character to his siblings stories and acted appropriately. His turning point?
First love can be a real pain. Darcy’s first crush struck later in his teens than most, long after his brothers and sisters had left home for adventures with Pokemon or careers. The boy’s name was Lime of all things, a travelling Pokemon trainer from Alola who was challenging the Johto league with his team when he suffered a bad injury hunting for Pokemon. Darcy’s mother worked at a clinic for people instead of Pokemon, and that was how the pair met. Sparing the gory details of what transpired when Darcy played nursemaid to the injured trainer, a year seemed to pass faster than possible and Lime left to continue his journey, leaving the other young man lovelorn and a little lost. Yet one of things the pair had shared was an adoration for Pokemon, and Lime had left Darcy a parting gift and challenge to change his life.
For the first time since he could remember though, this time Darcy didn’t balk at the idea. He gave it a soft smile.
The Quin family made a living in the Johto region by operating a clinic that didn’t specialize in treating injured Pokemon as much as it did injured people. His mother was the doctor who ran it while his father commuted into the nearby Goldenrod City to work in the radio tower. Money could be tight at times with seven mouths to feed, not counting the Pokemon, but as the kids aged they left for their journeys. Sometimes Darcy wondered if his siblings left so they wouldn’t always be under each other’s feet. His oldest brother made it to the Pokemon League in Hoenn at some point, while his eldest sister was settling into a role as a gym leader in some far flung region. The middle children, the twins, stayed together during their travels and wound up abandoning Pokemon training to focus on careers in entertainment as a reporter and her cameraman.
Darcy, meanwhile, stayed home and helped his mother with the clinic. Her medical knowledge never quite sunk into him, but he always offered patients a gentle smile. When the owner of the Day-Care became a regular visitor because of arthritic flares, Darcy found himself drawn into her world. He delivered the medicine regularly to the old couple, and eventually began to work for them around the Day-Care center and learned the intricacies of training other people’s Pokemon. They only stayed for a short time, but each was precious to Darcy in a different way.
His life probably would have continued along this path, working for his mother and the Day-Care in some limbo of non-commitment to his future, until Lime arrived at the clinic one day on the back of his Stoutland. The other boy was a year older than Darcy, a travelling trainer and the unfortunate recipient of a badly broken leg amidst other injuries from a recent Pokemon hunting expedition. Dr. Quin ordered him bed rest and offered to call his family, but the Alolan boy only laughed it off. He didn’t have any.
Coming from such a large family, the casual admission of Lime’s struck a heartstring in Darcy that he didn’t even know he had. His mother declared the boy under her care then, and though he protested Lime found himself the house-guest of the Quin family thereafter until his leg was healed and he could complete rehabilitation. Begrudgingly, the brusque trainer found himself only capable of leaving the house for short trips with Darcy to the Day-Care or Goldenrod. The pair, Darcy walking alongside a Stoutland with a heavily bandaged and cast-wearing rider, were an odd sight at first to the Day-Care couple and other locals familiar with the Quin clan.
Lime might have been a little sour at first, and Darcy met his displeasure with being grounded in Goldenrod with a chilly indifference of his own, but time had a habit of changing things. He found himself answering barbs from Lime with truths at time in the months that passed, and his eyes lingering a little too long on the Alolan at times. His fondness for the loud young man had grown exponentially without him even being conscious of it when he faced the reality of Lime leaving after his mother removed his cast. There was some physical therapy, sure, but then what?
The confession happened pretty simply one day when they were walking back from the Day-Care to the clinic through a forest path. Darcy’s words were simple, yet the weight of the late summer air seemed suffocating. More surprising? The kiss.
Yet running off and starting a life together, as much as Darcy’s tales and books and cheap paper-backs made it seem feasible, wasn’t in the cards. Lime was gone the next day, leaving as suddenly as he’d come. Darcy would’ve been devastated if not for the note Lime left behind, and the present as well. A Pokemon egg, the mottled green shell in the incubator glistening, and a note with a promise in it, and a challenge. If Darcy wanted to see this through, in Lime’s writing, he’d need to find that quiet strength of his own and use it. Meet him on the road, in a couple of years perhaps? When one of them became famous enough of a trainer to warrant people knowing their names? At the bottom of the note, a Poke-gear phone number.
Darcy left home a month after Lime did. He wasn’t shamed of the tears he cried or the fears he felt, yet the thrill in his heart at the prospects of the future before him were staggering. The egg hatched into a Popplio, a rare girl to boot, and he bonded with the seal pup with ease. Hearing of the dangers of the Stellara region, the quiet young man made the decision to jump head first into Pokemon training with a change of scenery to boot; and maybe, just maybe, he’d run into Lime again sooner than expected. He kept the Poke-gear number, saved it in his own Poke-gear, but promised himself not to call too soon. For now, Darcy only needed to focus on being with his Pokemon and finding his footing in his new life.
