DUTY CALLS; CAT AND MOUSE
"Nonononono-- Come back, please!"
Chail's form hit hard against the ground, his pleas only met with a fading feline hiss. He had been hunting down this Glameow for a whole fourty-five minutes now, and the cat did NOT want to go home for reasons Chail couldn't fathom... The limber pokemon's caretaker sure was upset about losing the kitten, too...
A flash of distant lightning snapped Chail out of his thoughts. He whipped around to gaze through the trees- The girl warned him about a storm that could cross across the forest, and for once, the crappy weathermen on the TV were right in their prediction. Time was running out before this stubborn Glameow and Chail would have to fight through the storm... Chail inhale slowly, his resolve only strengthening.
Chail continued forward, pushing through the underbrush Glameow had crept through. Autumn leaves from the tall trees lay scattered on the forest floor; each of a brittle brown. A sound like dried cereal being crunched under the human's feet, pushing their papery remains deep into the soft soil. The dark shadows of the voluminous trees and the surrounding bushes had become the backbone of the forest, standing as passive protectors of a peaceful place. The winter sun rose in a hurry as if trying to make up for setting too early the evening before, though the dark clouds on the horizon ate up the early light for breakfast.
Chail wiped a single raindrop off his brow with a sigh. He could hear some Grubbin chirping, and some Kriketot songs in the bushes, before suddenly, a rather gleeful meow broke the silence, and the game between the cat and mouse continued.
Chail spotted the cat preening a wild Skitty, though both bolted when they caught eye of the human. The Glameow seemed to enjoy toying with Chail, sometimes lounging in the top of a tree with a smug smile, and then just hopping off on it's own and strutting away when Chail climbed up to try and save it. Another time, it seemed to lay a gosh darn trap for Chail, knocking over a tree canopy with one of it's ranged attacks to topple down onto him and send the now agitated and 90% done man to the floor and sliding down the hill he was chasing it on. Chail liked cats just as much as he did dogs, but cats never liked him. The storm clapped again, with a light drizzle now dripping from the clouds.
"Don't. You. Dare." Chail spoke with narrowed eyes. The smug feline now circled Chail back to his makeshift camp, with his brand new journal placed atop a tree branch, and the cat's paw slowly pushing it away to a river nearby. "I said DON'T." Chail ordered loud and stern over the whipping howls of the wind. "Your trainer is worried sick-- why are you being like this?!" Chail elaborated as the cat brushed it off with a flick of it's ear, licking it's paw and using the other to flick the writer's journal closer to the edge of the branch.
The cat chuckled with a dismissive wave of it's paw. Some Ledyba by the cat seemed to join in on mocking Chamil as well, causing him to sigh and run a hand down his face. The rain began to beat harder, and the tree canopies shook with growing fear, until, finally...
A might crash echoed through the woods- with a strike of lightning only meters away from the trainer and the pursued Pokemon, the wind, which seemed just as tired as Chamil, decided to take the situation by the reigns and end it now.
The branch snapped beneath the cat, and unlike the winged Ledyba that could hold their own in the air, the cat was flung right into the raging river. Chail gasped, and without a second thought, he gave pursuit. The man extended his hands and leaned over the river edge to try and catch the cat, missing by a mere inch and falling in himself with a lack of balance.
Chail gasped for air, resurfacing with the cat in his arms, clinging to the man for dear life. "D-Don't worry- I-I can--" He began, aiming to paddle to the river's edge, only to have to whip his form around to take the blunt of an impact against a rugged rock for the cat gripped to his side.
The catty pokemon meowed loud, it's grip tightening onto Chail as his now weakened form was hurled down the river once more. He could just barely keep himself and the cat above the surface with his clothes weighing him down, and a fresh would bleeding from his rocky impact.
"...Oh, crapbaskets." Chail muttered as the rapids only rushed even more relentlessly. Down the stream were plenty of stray branches and rubble piercing the water's surface haphazardly... And-- wait, was that a waterfall ahead?
The trainer gripped tight onto the gray cat, closing his eyes. "D-Don't worry. I-I'm here. I got you." Chail smiled regardless to the pokemon.
Rock after rock, blow after blow, and finally being flung a dozen feet down the falls ahead, Chail's vision faded to darkness as he heard a final shrill call from the Pokemon in his arms, along with some other calls growing louder nearby...
Earlier...
"Please, m-mister! Glameow is my best friend- a-a-and my mom will freak out if she finds out I-I lost her..." A girl pleaded to the striving Chail. He saw her running around and calling out for her Pokemon, soon offering his own hand. "Don't worry about a thing. With both of us looking, we'll find her for sure." The daycare assistant assured, putting a hand on the Lass' shoulder. "Where did you see your Glameow last?"

"....Euuughhhh... W-where..."
Chail coughs, his vision coming to. Buzzes, chirps, and a single mewing sound echoed from around him, along with the harsh patters of rain... Though, he didn't feel any raindrops lashing against his body.
Pushing himself to a sitting position and coughing out some water, the human grasped his torso, which was still littered with bloody and muddy marks. Looking down, Chail could see the Glameow on his lap. Two Trumbeak sat near, along with the Ledyba and Skitty he saw earlier. "Did... did you all...?" The human spoke with another harsh cough, looking up to see some meticulously placed foliage forming a little tent around him and the Pokemon. Had they saved him? Probably, because he was still alive.
The Glameow called out to the surrounding mass of Pokemon, nodding to Chail soon after... "...Oh, let me guess, you only came out here to play with these guys in the woods, you scamp?" Chail finally realized. He always saw the cat with another Pokemon whenever he cornered it, after all. "You should at least have your Trainer nearby. She cares an awful lot for you, and I'm sure your buddies here won't mind." The cat sighed, ears drooping while it sat on Chail's lap.
Already, the rain outside began to lighten. Peering out of the makeshift leaf tent, the human could see a glimmering rainbow peering from the clouds above, the sun finally shining through onto the forest. The rain was a mere drizzle now, earning a collective sigh of relief from the group.
"Let's get you home now, alright? I'll cover for us." Chail explained as the cat climbed around him, resting on his shoulders. After bidding goodbye to the wild Pokemon Glameow had befriended, Chail could only ponder how he would properly word all this to the cat's trainer...
