So she was finally leaving the city.
Carine wasn't one to grow attached, but even she couldn't help but grow a bit misty-eyed at the prospect. She had a lot of fun in the four years she was here, and it was hard to leave them behind. But she wasn't like the people around here, who couldn't see past the glitzy glossy night life and the high-rise apartments, the hotel parties and the VIP tickets. She sought the entire region of Stellara as her playground, not a single city. She sought the world. So come morning light, she would be gone.
But not without taking a piece of Cyngi with her.
The plan was to capture one of the wild Pokemon roaming around here both as a memento and a valuable addition to her team, which wasn't much of a team since at the moment it had one member. This would be a difficult task for a foreigner—the strays here were sly and elusive—but for Carine, a city girl born and raised, it was as simple as hailing a cab. She practically tripped on wild Rattatas and Ekans and Glameows each time she walked the streets.
The back alleys were especially a hotspot for wildlife. They were dangerous if you didn't have knowledge of their ways or a Pokemon to defend yourself with. Carine had both. So now she was prowling behind rickety brick buildings, the sickly yellow moonlight seeping into her skin, casting her in an unholy glow. She tilted her head up and smiled at the sky, and the skyscrapers' windows blinked back.
ooc; poison type pokemon please!

As expected, it didn't take long for a suitable Pokemon to show face. A gamy little Nidoran scurried past her feet, murmuring darkly to itself as it slunk along the alley walls. Carine watched his passage with a somewhat bemused expression, then cupped her mouth with a hand just before he could disappear from view.
"Hello there," she called, her voice lifting on a friendly note. The Nidoran swiveled his ears and, with apparent reluctance, turned around. She tilted her head downwards and directed a moonlit smile his way. "Sorry to bother you, but I'm curious. Where are you off to in such a hurry?" And on this cold December night, no less. As if just noticing the chill, she jumped her fingers up to stroke the fur lining her coat hood.
The Nidoran sniffed impatiently. ( I've gotta grudge to settle, lady. Ain't got time to sit 'round and chit-chat. )
How interesting. Carine wasn't one to hold grudges herself, though she found that people liked to hold grudges against her. "Tell me more, please. Maybe I can help in some way."
( What'd I just say? ) he snapped, his poison spikes bristling. He did seem somewhat pleased to have an audience, however, so he took the liberty of explaining. ( See, me and this guy, we were havin' a tussle 'bout this grudge I 'ad with 'im. Just threw down right then and there, I tell ya. And I was gettin' 'im real good, boutta deal the final blow, when—bam! ) He made a vague swiping motion with his paw. ( This Glameow, she flies outta nowhere and tackles me. It didn't hurt, mind you, but I was so surprised that I let the guy go, and the coward ran. I'm done with that asshole, I taught 'im real good, but now I gotta track down that lady and give 'er a piece of my mind. No one intervenes with a grudge o' mine and gets away with it. No one, ya hear? ) He squinted at Carine, who nodded to appease him.
The Nidoran had mentioned two grudges, and while Carine didn't know what the former was about, she got the feeling that it wasn't a big deal. Still, she wanted him on her team. Spite was quite the motivator, as she had learned from her old group of friends, and there were plenty of ways she could capitalize on it. "You're lucky you met me. I met a wild Glameow not too long ago, and she sounds like the one you're looking for: prissy, nosy, all the rest. And she happened to tell me where she was heading too."
A lie. The Nidoran swallowed it easily, his eyes widening and his whiskers quivering in anticipation. ( Really? Where is she? Help me out, lady! )
"Ah ah ah." Carine wiggled her index finger from side to side, allowing a sly smile onto her lips. "Information isn't free, you know. You'll have to do something for me first."
( What? What is it? )
With a flourish, Carine took an unoccupied Pokeball from the knapsack slung over her shoulder. She knelt and set it gently on the ground in front of the Nidoran. "Get inside."
To her delight, the Pokeball spurred no recognition from the Nidoran. ( Whadda hell is this? This a trap or somethin'? It's too small, no way I'm gonna fit! )
"Oh, no, you'll fit. Don't worry," Carine assured, still stooping to meet the Nidoran's eyes. "It's not a trap, I promise. I'm a researcher, you see, and this is an archival capsule. Once a Pokemon enters, the capsule scans it and collects all kinds of data about its biological composition, and then it lets you out right after. Just press the button and you'll be good to go."
The Nidoran was clearly suspicious, but his need to fulfill his grudge seemed to outweigh his better judgment. Grumbling to himself, he poked the white button of the Pokeball with his nose and was sucked inside with a brilliant flash of light. The Pokeball rolled about as if in a state of confusion, flickering once, twice, thrice. Then it clicked.
Too easy, Carine thought as she plucked the newly occupied Pokeball from the ground.
ooc; carine will catch the nidoran. capture review please!
ABILITY — Rivalry PERSONALITY — Nidoran is rough, hot-headed, and petty to the underworld and back—in other words, he is motivated purely by spite. He has no other purpose in life than to keep a mental list of everyone who has wronged or slighted him in any way and hunt them down using any means available. This is admirable in itself, as his dedication has no bounds, but it also means he's ridiculously single-minded. He only keeps his grudges in his line of sight and takes nothing else into consideration. As he accepts all "assistance" that furthers his aims, he is easily bribed, bargained with, and otherwise tricked by those who want to take advantage of his intense spite.

It occurred to her that Carine was under no obligation to assist the Nidoran with his quest. He was now under her control, after all, so he couldn't resist if she decided to turn around and leave the city this very moment. She did want to build rapport for him as a cushion for when he inevitably found out she tricked him, though, so she turned on her heel and left the back alley.
She ended up in a backwater street, the kind where the architecture was small and tight. She passed a laundromat and a Johto fast food restaurant, a wine bar and an underground nightclub. The streetlamps flickered through layers of dust. This patch of the city was dark and quiet, but the muffled sounds of busier streets came carried here by the wintry wind. Carine felt at peace.
She wasn't here to take a stroll, though. She had a cat to chase. If I were a nosy Glameow, she thought as she walked, where would I go? What would I do? In the city (and really anywhere in the wild), she found that wild Pokemon tended to operate on an "every 'mon for themselves" type of mentality. A Pokemon that would intervene in a fight between two such strays likely didn't lead that sort of hard-knock life. Perhaps the Glameow was a house pet who was let outside from time to time. Perhaps she belonged to a trainer. That seemed plausible.
When she arrived at a crossroads, Carine caught sight of a stranger nearby. She hadn't come across any meddlesome felines today, contrary to her claim, but perhaps someone else had. "Excuse me!" she called, waving and jogging towards the stranger. Her long, long hair seemed to glow under the foggy light. "Sorry to bother you, but have you seen any stray Glameows lately?"
ooc; now open for posting! idk what the plural form of glameow is whoops
