I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT
Lily had never really planned on going to Rana Town. She had heard of the Pokemon races held there, but they didn't hold her interest long enough to do anything but pass through the town. She healed her Pokemon at the Pokemon center, stocked up on snacks at a small farmer's market, and was ready to go.
As she passed through the center of town, a callboard caught her eye. She approached it, Snow trotting along at her heels, and looked over the board. It was mostly typical notices. Such and such was advertising a bake sale. This and that was looking for a trade. Her eyes scanned the callboard with no real interest until she came across one flyer. It offered a reward in exchange for a battle. A reward. Now that caught Lily's attention. She wondered what the reward could be. She hoped it was money, as she was in desperate need of cash. Regardless, all she had to do was battle this Ace Trainer Mikey. She snatched the flyer down, her mind memorizing the address as she looked over it. "What do you think, Snow? Should we do it?" The Vulpix looked up at her with its icy blue eyes and chirped happily. "Good enough for me," Lily said with a laugh.
Pulling her map out of her pocket, she studied it thoughtfully, trying to find the address listed in the flyer. She tapped a spot on the map that she assumed was the correct place and began heading north through town. She looked around at the rural area as she passed the individual landmarks. Rana Town was a pleasant little place, but she was used to life in the city. The hustle and bustle of people and things were nowhere to be found in this town. But that was to be expected. Not every place she visited on her journey could be like Vega City. It was interesting so see such a variety of places, people, and Pokemon all in one region.
Lily stopped by a well near the north end of Rana Town. She looked around for a moment before spotting a small house with a red roof. Looking at the flyer again, she read over the notes at the bottom of the page. North of the well. Little house with red roof. This had to be the place. She looked down at Snow, who nodded vigorously. ”Alright then,” Lily said brightly, walking toward the house. She rapped on the door a few times and stepped back. There was no response at first. She knocked again. There was a shuffling sound behind the door. It creaked open slowly. ”What do you want?” came a voice from the other side. ”Um, is this Ace Trainer Mikey’s house?” Lily asked. Now she wasn’t so sure she was in the right place. ”So what if it is?” the voice asked. ”Well, I got your flyer,” Lily explained, starting to get a little annoyed. ”I’m here for a batlle.”
The door opened suddenly. Standing before Lily was a young man with a grin on his face. ”Well, why didn’t you just say so?” he asked. He stepped out of the house and motioned for Lily to follow him. She did so, quite unsure, and followed him to the backyard. Her mouth fell open. Behind the house was a rather impressive makeshift battlefield. ”This is where we’ll have our battle. Ready?” Mikey asked. Lily’s face turned determined as she walked to her side of the field, Snow following and ready for action. ”Not just yet, girl,” Lily said. Snow sat between her feet as Lily grabbed the pokeball hanging from her belt. She tossed it in the air.
”Let’s battle!”
