I AM NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT
The sun was just beginning to set, hues of hazy orange thrown over the horizon and bathing the earth in its soft warmth. Lily sat cross-legged on a bench in one of Shaula Town's many parks, with Snow curled up in her lap as the duo watched the sinking sun and the dying activity. A few people were out enjoying the last rays of sunshine, but even they were beginning to leave. Before long, Lily was alone. A long, heartfelt sigh escaped her lips.
"Well, we tried, right?" she asked, trying to sound optimistic. Her fingers caressed the tuft of fur atop Snow's head as she stroked the Vulpix. Their participation in their first contest had been admirable and fun, but, alas, they didn't take home the Saiph City ribbon. It had left Lily in quite the funk; she had wandered around aimlessly for several days wondering if she was following the right path. She had yet to tell her father, who would most assuredly compare her to her successful sisters and berate her for being a coordinator in the first place. She wasn't ready for that, so she just traveled from town to town, looking for something to inspire her out of her rut. Shaula Town seemed like a good place for that. It was out of the way of the hustle and bustle of city life, and as the first stars began to blink into the sky, she felt at peace.
Pushing her glasses up against the bridge of her nose, she continued to stare up into the sky, letting the soothing sounds of the evening overtake her.
