PERSONALITY
- Raoul is a quiet and reserved individual, preferring to simply observe and go along with the flow and let the noisy ones take the floor. He likes it better when he works in the background and in places with fewer people for a variety of reasons, including comfort. It also provides less of a risk of him unintentionally beginning to resonate with strong feelings, especially when it comes from a big crowd - he tends to lash out or act out according to what the prevailing mood is if it’s too strong.
- Even though he has Aura powers, Raoul is surprisingly callous and a tad apathetic to most people around him that he doesn’t particularly like or deem important, though he keeps it covered up with a veneer of politeness. He doesn’t particularly care about strangers and to a lesser extent acquaintances, perfectly content to leave them to suffer or even to mess with them if it suits his needs for the moment. He’s trying to make an effort to care more about people and pokemon in general, but it’s currently a work-in-progress.
- He has a rather casual attitude towards violence, believing it to be merely another tool to further his ends and from experience knows that it’s probably his most effective tool to get a point across. This is no surprise considering that he’s from a long line of criminals despite his parents’ and his own attempts to start reforming and stay on the good side of the law, but his experiences in Kalos made him more prone to violence and paranoia once more with everything he and his friends have done there. He’s hoping that coming to Stellaria would make him less paranoid about things, but given they also have a criminal group he wasn’t too confident about it despite his parents’ hopes.
- With those he actually cares about though, he’s very protective of them. He will do anything to protect those he cares about, even if it is breaking the law or his own personal vows and ethics. Whatever honor he has, it isn’t worth a loved one’s life. Nor are laws. No expense is too great to protect them either. This extends to pokemon and he has caused fear and turmoil before with friends from the steps he’s done to ensure it. It was simply the way of his family and his own.
- When it comes to training or things he actually likes to do, Raoul is very stubborn and diligent about them. Not a day goes by where he and his own train, usually to the limit and sometimes beyond if he wasn’t about to undergo something major. He will do his very best to achieve his ends - success or not - because he believes that there is something to be gained in every bit of struggle and every bit of progress he makes. The same goes with hobbies or other things he likes - he will go at them and try and try until he succeeds out of a personal need to succeed. Dirty tactics are also fair game, though he’s been trying to cut back on that nowadays since he is trying to turn over a new leaf and be a better person.
- Despite his previous denials and attempts at suppression, Raoul is very much a massive pervert just like his parents. He loves to ogle women and appreciate their fine forms, and in fact has even been trained to be able to make accurate estimates of a woman’s three measurements from mere observation even with thick clothes on. These days he’s allowed himself more freedom and lets his eyes wander more often in public and even reads the likes of adult magazines in private, though he still tries to keep it as polite as he can and won’t make comments about them or the like when asked beyond generalities.
He tries his best to just look and not touch, but sometimes it’s a little too tempting and it’s up to the cold showers to rein himself in. He IS trying to be a good citizen after all, not a deviant. His other family members have got that covered. - Given his past, powers, and certain habits, Raoul has developed a tendency to be secretive about himself. He will only reveal the pertinent non-incriminating information about himself, as barebones as he can make it. You have to coax or force information out of him a lot of the time, especially if it’s sensitive information. He honestly believes that being open with information about oneself or in general is a dangerous thing even though he is personally trying to be more open at the advice of his family and his teachers.
BACKGROUND
- Raoul was born in Snowpoint City, Sinnoh to a line of Aura Guardians on his mother’s side, marked by the silver eyes that denotes their lineage. Not the typical kind who are often protectors of tradition or of people, but cast-out acolytes of a long-eradicated sect turned criminals who have used their abilities to accumulate wealth, knowledge, power and connections throughout the ages. His father Santiago Dantes, meanwhile, was a master thief and ninja-wannabe who started from the bottom rungs in Kalos but made his way up to his current position through ruthlessness, cunning, and forging the right connections. Both of his parents had strong, perverted, and shameless personalities but Raoul himself was more like his maternal grandparents even as a child - quiet and cautious.
- When he was four, he had first displayed his aura abilities by being able to see glows around people and even producing the faintest flickers of light around his hands. Soon after, his mother decided to step down as heir apparent to give herself and her husband more freedom against the pressures of their family. Raoul becomes the new heir apparent by default. As the new heir apparent, he is then thrown into his clan’s training regime and indoctrination at an earlier age than usual. It’s harsh and strict despite his parents’ attempts to soften it, and he ends up getting stronger as his powers develop but with code of ethics more suited for a criminal. He also ends up getting used to things children normally shouldn’t see or couldn’t see without getting afraid or nauseous without batting an eyelash.
- His parents decide that Raoul needs some real life experience away from the prying eyes of the extended family, so when he was ten years old they decide to send him to a trainer academy in Santagio’s home region Kalos with instructions to keep his powers under wraps unless necessary and to try and fit in and keep low key. His arrival there is his first dose of culture shock as not only was Kalos very different from Sinnoh in many ways climate-wise, but that people in Kalos behaved very differently from what he was used to and that apparently this was more the norm than what he had been used to in his family’s isolated manor. It was even more jarring to see such open camaderie and honesty instead of the backstabbing and subterfuge he was used to. What he did learn made him wish to see what life was on the other side beyond what he’d already tasted, and since his parents already had plans to go more on the straight and narrow or at least tone down their criminal antics (because it was more entertaining and challenging more than anything else, but still) they helped him eventually strong-arm the elders of his clan to at least let him and his parents try being the good guys and see how it goes.
- He kept to himself for the most part as he adjusted to the new place and observed these Kalosians and their ordinary pokemon lives. He made few friends and pulled as little attention to himself as possible by putting himself solidly in the middle of the pack within his class. The only notable thing he allowed for himself was that he balanced exceptional practical scores with rather lackluster theoretical scores. Of course, he wasn’t entirely fudging up those scores - theories in some subjects like the maths were hard. In the end though, he managed to graduate and then he went along with people he thought he could tolerate for a pokemon adventure, which turned out to be one of the best -and worst- decisions he’d ever made up till that moment. It probably didn’t help when he saw his masked parents on the news on a panty raid the first night they stayed at a pokemon center - a bad omen if anything.
- During their journey, they crossed paths with a group attempting to force the next step of mankind’s evolution multiple times. It started off as simple but treacherous from the get-go, but then it evolved into a complex situation as the police and the local League got involved trying to control this new gang while unknowing of their true ultimate ambitions. Eventually, things got personal what with repeated encounters and one member of the group having connections to said group, and they sought out to stop them and their plans. Things initially got worse at first with their influence spreading to the League and the police, with them having to be wary of the law more than once with Raoul himself being forced to break it several times in varying degrees of severity in the interest of preserving their free status, failing his own goal to stay on the straight and narrow in the process.
- He tried his best to keep things about himself under wraps during the journey, but his status as an Aura Guardian was exposed pretty quickly out of necessity when the danger started to ramp up early on during their first encounters with the group and their messes. He was surprised that it was mostly found cool or useful and that it became a mundane thing quickly, but he was glad for it. The exposure of his darker nature and the eccentricities of his parents were more well-hidden… up until his parents decided to go and mess with him and his friends in their usual crazy exhibitionist manner, only formally introducing themselves as his parents and rather extreme PETA supporters after they tricked Gozubura into a meeting and then held Gozubura at knife point for fun. They took that and his more callous violent tendencies not nearly as well, but they still considered him a friend nonetheless. And hey, his connections with his parents were even able to help them out at later points in their journey, especially when things started to heat up.
- In the end though, they managed to got to grow as people beat the team. The victory however was costly, as they were exhausted and people died or were injured in various degrees during the fight. At one point there was even a cave-in in the laboratory they were in that nearly crushed them before they were forced to make their way to the surface to continue the fight there and finally end it. Everyone needed a break after that ordeal, and so they took some downtime after the fight. Raoul in particular needed it to go reflect on his thoughts and his actions, all the things he had to do to get to this point.
- In the end he felt that he failed in trying to keep to the path he was supposed to be trying to move onto and decided to go back to Sinnoh with his parents to accept his fate. The elders welcomed him back with open arms and even commended him on his actions in Kalos before resuming his training once more, but his parents noticed that he still seemed glum and torn about the subject despite stating that he had wanted to take over and keep tradition. However, his inner turmoil continued through the months he stayed there and it was starting to affect his performance to the point where even the elders had noticed. After a talk between all parties it was decided that he go over to one of the resident sages of the mountains to really figure out what it was he wanted since it was clear that he wasn’t committing to this as he should.
- Raoul headed off to the sage Gunther living near the peak of Mt. Coronet to ask for his wisdom. The sage easily determined that he still wanted to try being a good person, but that he was far too entrenched in his dark habits and impulses to really try and that being in his home certainly wasn’t helping. With that in mind, they trained for several months to wean off the worst of his habits and impulses, while the sage also encouraged him to be more open since part of Raoul’s problem in his opinion was that he kept too much to himself and that being an island never worked.
- After the training was as complete as it could be, the sage advised Raoul to get a fresh start to find himself anew without the influences that bogged him down. On that end, he implored the elders to let him find himself and got permission with the support of the sage and his parents. Once permission had been given, he set off to one of the regions that his parents had recommended with the child of one of his pokemon with him, an Aron he named Brynhildr, to Stellara and see if his fortunes fared any better there. Maybe there he could become the change he seeks.

Though slow on her stubby feet, she's quick-witted and always eager to get into messes and drag her trainer along with her, while also usually being wily enough to help get themselves out of the messes she or someone else had created. She likes to have fun with her trainer and takes it upon herself to have him relax and interact with other people. Aside from fun and games though, she aspires to be a majestic Aggron just like her mother one day and is ready and willing to do whatever it takes to get there. Battling's just one of the most fun parts to get to the goal.
