LOCKE GLADSTONE
NAME — Locke Gladstone.
AGE — Eighteen (18).
GENDER — Male.
SEXUALITY — Heterosexual.
TRAINER CLASSES —
- Researcher -
Researchers are those who study Pokemon such as Pokemon relationships, habitats, breeding patterns, attacks, evolution and much more. Accomplished researchers often become Pokemon professors and work towards educating the public about Pokemon, but researchers can choose to travel the world instead. Researchers use their expertise to gather valuable information about Pokemon and trainers and then apply that information to their training regimes.
- Inspirator -
Sometimes, training and tactics aren’t what Pokemon need in order to achieve victory in battle. Inspirators are individuals who motivate their friends and Pokemon in an attempt to instill them with the power to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges. In fact, an Inspirator’s words can be the trigger for a Pokemon’s second wind or for a sudden, unexplainable boost in a Pokemon’s power. Inspirators show that all you need to do is believe if you want to achieve.
- Hunter -
Pokemon Hunters are trainers who specialize in catching wild Pokemon. Most of the time, Hunters catch Pokemon and then sell them for profit though there are Hunters who use their skills simply to locate and catch Pokemon of interest easier. Pokemon Hunters have a reputation of being cutthroat poachers, and it is not uncommon for Hunters to be outfitted with hi-tech equipment and capture devices.

APPEARANCE
PERSONALITY
Locke is a fairly interesting individual. First and foremost, he’s a genuine guy. He’s come a long way from his carefree, almost snobbish demeanor as a child and has begun to blossom into a man. He’s friendly to those he comes across and rarely tries to pick fights, although at times he can be a little boisterous and enthusiastic which unfortunately goes against his peaceful nature. He can be optimistic at times, trying to see the best in people, especially in dire situations. A lot of the positive traits he possesses come directly from his care and tutelage under Ronan Marshall, as well as the responsibility undertaken when he accepted Crash as his partner. He gets a tad nervous around new people, though he is generally amiable and kind.
He very much enjoys relaxing and relaxation, making some of the more “calm” Pokemon types his favorite. Namely Grass types. He loves being out in nature and exploring. Unfortunately, nature also brings its nightmares. Locke is deathly afraid of Bug-type Pokemon, a common type all throughout the world. He gets very nauseous and almost always takes off in the other direction when encountering one. Those close to him would attribute this fear to his wild encounter with the Ariados that brought him and Crash together, however it seems like Ariados is about the only Bug type he doesn’t fear. He also fears Ghost types, which doesn’t really stem from any event in his life in particular aside from the fact that he just finds them creepy. They creep him out.
Like any normal human, Locke is not without his flaws. He is a very impatient person outside of his research projects and the like. Waiting in line to get food at a fast-food joint, or waiting in lines in general just grind his gears. He hates it. It would seem that when it comes to the more mundane activities in life, Locke carries with him not a lick of patience. He will openly address his discomfort or annoyance with waiting for something, as well. He isn’t the type to sit there, cross his arms, and just tap his foot in hopes that it will speed of the process. He can be vocal, which is sometimes very good.. Or sometimes very bad.
Locke can also be very traditional in the sense that he likes to follow rules, laws and regulations to a t, as it stresses him out should he do the opposite. He gets very nervous and apprehensive when you start introducing ideas that could put him in jail or otherwise get him into a lot of trouble. He does not like straying from the norm, although his adventurous personality would probably give others an entirely different impression. In somewhat of a stark contrast, Locke is independent. He doesn’t like being bossed around, especially in a provocative or aggressive manner. He likes to do his thing (In the set of rules laid out before him) by himself. He can and will listen to others, but if you start getting lip with him, expect him to fire back with vengeance. Again, he is a likeable dude who tries to avoid physical and verbal confrontations at all fronts, however every person has their breaking points. Locke’s is when you start mouthing off with arrogance trying to tell him this way is that.
Because of the fact that he has never really had much of a family of his own aside from Professor Marshall, his Shiftry, and within the past five years Crash, he has a strong sense of family. As such, when picking the Pokemon he chooses to be by his side, he doesn’t go based off the species. He doesn’t go based off of the moves they know or how well the Pokemon performs in battle. He doesn’t care if the Pokemon is the prettiest or the fastest. He picks Pokemon based on how compatible they are with himself and his other Pokemon personality wise. He isn’t trying to build a team that goes on to win the Pokemon League. He’s trying to build a family. A cohesive unit that works together and acts very much like blood. He considers Crash his brother, and he wants the rest of the Pokemon he obtains to fill every other void in his heart. It’s a dark origin, but a noble goal.
To be brief, he likes confident people. He very much enjoys those that are willing to go out and get what they want. He doesn’t like liars, even though he will at times lie if it is in his best interest. He doesn’t tolerate bullies whatsoever. He doesn’t find very much value in monetary gain as most of his value comes from developing a family with his party. He loves to eat, though he is a very picky eater. He’s easily frightened and sometimes not so confident in himself despite being very great at raising the moral of others.
Locke is just… Locke.
BACKGROUND
Born in the Sinnoh Region, Locke didn’t necessarily live a shitty, gloomy life like most people seem to have. It is currently unknown what happened to his birth parents, if they’re still alive traveling about or six feet under, however Locke assume that they are indeed still alive and that they are just off doing their own thing. After his birth and the disappearance of his birth parents, Locke was left in the care of an independent professor living in Veilstone City named Ronan Marshall, or better known around the city as Professor Marshall. His research included several different subjects such as Pokemon habitats, evolution, breeding, among a multitude of other things. However, the one thing the older man specialized in was Pokemon’s relation to time and space, as well as other dimensions. This is why Professor Marshall flocked to the SInnoh Region in the first place, as the legendary Pokemon here were known for their time and spacial warping abilities.
From birth, Locke had been left with the professor and as such, grew up in the researching industry. His life was fairly normal. He attended school, he had his own group of friends. He was a normal child.. Aside from his open carelessness regarding Pokemon and the like. He held a complete disregard for the wellbeing of Pokemon and the danger they posed, freely walking about the wild outside of the city limits without a care in the world. This, of course, for a young boy with no Pokemon of his own or any means of defending himself, was extremely dangerous. This turned out to be the biggest hurdle in his life, aside from battling with the underlying issue of depression when it came to watching all of his friends and their families enjoy themselves despite him not having one of his own.
When Locke turned the age of ten, the magical number that meant everything to all of the youngin’s in the world, he wholeheartedly expected Ronan to bring him his very own Pokemon. Of the three that were available as regional starter Pokemon in the Sinnoh Region: Piplup, Turtwig, and Chimchar, Locke had his mind set on Turtwig. He loved everything about the Tiny Leaf Pokemon. From the color variations, to the typing (He’s always been a fan of the much calmer, more chill Grass-type Pokemon), to the evolutions. Ontop of all of that, since Turtwig was a more nature-geared Pokemon, he’d be the perfect partner to tag along on his nightly escapades into the wild, searching and exploring for something new.
So, you can imagine the disappointment on young Locke’s face with Ronan not only showed up on his tenth birthday without Turtwig, but without a Pokemon entirely. During a heated argument, Ronan explained that he would not gift Locke with his own Pokemon as he lacked the responsibility to raise and grow alongside one. The next few weeks were rocky for the pair as Locke attempted to find underhanded ways to obtain his own Pokemon, which in turn only strained the relationship between Locke and his guardian.
Believe it or not, this back and forth battle lasted for a whole two years. At age twelve, Locke was still without his own Pokemon. He’d done everything he could only to fail time and time again, either being caught and reprimanded by Ronan himself or just failing entirely due to his own incompetence. Growing tired of Locke’s constant efforts, Ronan finally sat him down and explained to him that, if he could prove himself to gain the maturity and responsibility required to raise a Pokemon of his own over the course of a year, he would grant Locke’s wish.
The year long wait was grueling and it began with a rocky start, however Locke busted his ass and gave it his all. He did everything from helping with the chores to actually taking initiative and assisting Ronan with his research. Along the way, his natural curiosity coupled with his desire to prove himself had actually given Locke a new interest. The young boy began taking an interest in the whole researcher thing. As a result, it began changing their slippery, jagged relationship into something that could blossom. Not only did the two grow closer, but it proved to Ronan that Locke was slowly but surely riding down the right path. At the very least, it proved he was trying, and in Ronan’s eyes, that’s all that counted.
On Locke’s thirteenth birthday, Ronan set out towards Sandgem Town in order to acquire Locke his starter Pokemon. Along the way, things took a turn for the worst as he stumbled upon a battle between a mother Garchomp protecting her young from a wild Tyranitar. The battle unfortunately seemed to be swaying in the Tyranitar’s direction, and it soon dealt a blow that left the mother unable to continue battling. When the Armor Pokemon turned its attention towards the defenseless Gible, Ronan intervened. Sending out his life-long partner Shiftry, Ronan engaged in combat. Luckily for him, the Tyranitar had been exhausted from its previous fight with Garchomp, allowing him to claim victory.
Unfortunately, the victory came minutes too late. The mother Garchomp had succumbed to her wounds. This left the young Gible without protection in a dangerous world. Seeing this as an opportunity and instead of traveling all the way to Sandgem Town, Ronan saved this orphaned Pokemon and returned him to his lab/home in Veilstone where he was presented to Locke as his starter Pokemon. Ronan figured the two would be a perfect fit. Two orphaned youngin’s who could come together and be the final pieces to each other’s puzzles.
While that eventually did turn out to be true, it wasn’t all sunflowers and daisies in the beginning. The two were initially very apprehensive of interacting with one another. Locke because of his prior knowledge of the species and Gible because of the events that had transpired not long after his own birth. They were like two peas in a pod, yet so far away from one another.
It took one of Ronan’s expeditions into the wilds outside of Veilstone City for the two to finally come together and accept one another. Gible, being the clumsy little guy he was, continuously rammed into things without even knowing, causing Locke to jump in and warn/protect him just about every ten feet. He’d even saved the Land Shark Pokemon from falling off of a small cliff, which turned out to be the selling point for Gible. Sometime later, Ronan and his Shiftry purposely broke off from the two, leaving them alone to bond more. They hid away in the shadows, of course, quietly following and monitoring the duo so that no actual harm came from the experience.
It didn’t take long for the two overly-curious young boys to find themselves right in the heart of danger. Stumbling into a wild Ariados’ territory, Locke was the first to be attacked. He’d just barely managed to dodge a Poison Sting. In an attempt to scurry away from danger, Locke had been caught in a string shot, wrapping him up in the Ariados’ sticky web and trapping him. With death descending before his eyes in the form of the Long Leg Pokemon, Gible had arrived and used its very hard head to crash into the Ariados, knocking it back.
The two Pokemon engaged in battle, one defending its territory and one defending its new partner. Gible put up a decent enough fight, managing to hold the Ariados off long enough for Ronan’s Shiftry to intervene and swiftly deal with the threat.
From that day on, Gible and Locke began to develop a new understanding for each other, eventually accepting their partnership. They'd even become so close over the years that Locke had given Gible a nickname. Based around his inherent recklessness and the use of his head for crashing into things, Locke called him Crash.
Years passed as Locke and Crash delved deeper into the research field with Ronan. They’d went on several expeditions together, traveling around the Sinnoh Region and exploring all their home had to offer. It was only a few weeks after Locke’s eighteenth birthday did Ronan get a call regarding the appearance of a certain Pokemon in a far off region. Quickly packing his things, Ronan instructed Locke and Crash to stay behind and watch over the house. With his instructions set in the minds of Locke and Crash, Ronan departed for the Stellara Region.
It had been four months since his departure with no word from Ronan. Their guardian’s disappearance is what lead them to the Stellara region in the first place. After purchasing tickets for their own voyage, Locke and Crash set off to find the missing professor.

PERSONALITY — Given his name, you’d be right in assuming that Crash is very reckless and carefree. He acts very much like young Locke used to, though he has matured over the years with his trainer. He is very clumsy both in and out of battle, leading to him having a harder-than-usual head. He will often bump into trees, buildings or even other people without knowing and continue on his way as if nothing had just happened. He’s strong, independent, and somewhat goofy just like his trainer. However, a stark contrast between him and Locke is his love for battle. He enjoys battling and competing, something Locke has yet to come to accept. He is generally accepting of other Pokemon and like his trainer, can easily boost the moral of others with positive Pokewords. That’s why Locke has given him the title of “The Spirit”. Because he is the spirit of the team.
Because of his time with Locke, it should come as no surprise that these two are like brothers. They are tight, and it is obvious in the way that they interact with each other, and while most of the time they work together without fissures, they are nowhere near a perfect duo. Their personalities clash when their stubbornness comes out, and then it’s just a battle of wills to see who will win. He also enjoys battling, which is something Locke openly tries to avoid doing. However they do work fairly well in that regard. Since Locke can’t defend himself that well while he is out on research expeditions in the wild, he’s got the perfect partner by his side who loves to fend off those nasty monsters that go bump in the night.
